• Emphasizes the interdependence of every human in some
collective group and the priority of group goals over

What is the preferred personality?
• Indian Value a being-in-becoming orientation, which is highly influenced by
their Hindu religion following the rules of dharma (ethics)
• Seeking salvation though living ascetically non-worldly and living appropriately to
activities consistent with their life roles

• Essentially Indian culture is focused on the after life and uniting with the
Brahman (the supreme self), in hopes to end their cycle of rebirth
• Greater respect is given towards those who actively pursuit relationship with the
Braham, thinkers and philosophers instead of doers
Preferred personality
• When they are not in the householder stage it is a distraction to chase
material goods. So instead of focusing on “doing” they are encouraged to
seek truth and harmony
• All material goods are said to be lower in status according to their dharma except
during their householder stage, which it is acceptable to chase material items solely to
provide for their families needs and wants.
• Because of this they are a Being-in-Becoming oriented country.
Masculine or Feminine?

• Masculine – families want more boys than girls.
• Men have more opportunities in Indian culture than women
• Countless infant girls are aborted or abandoned each year in India
• Men are highly respected in business
• Population is more masculine
What roles do the male and female play?
• Men:
• In power and controls most if not all in family
• Choses wife and inherits dowry
• That is why women are less desired in fear of dowry debt
• Women:
• Doesn’t have much power
• Fighting to be heard
• Traffikking
• Not as desired
• Almost seen as a possession
Other interesting facts:
• Face poverty, corruption, malnutrition, inadequate public health care and terrorism.
• Is multilingual, pluralistic, and multiethnic society.
• National holiday “Gandhi Jayanti”
• Arranged marriages
• Hindi is the largest spoken language
• The Indian economy is nominally worth $1,758 trillion and is the eleventh largest
economy.
