Course Statement: This course is a multi-skills approach to language learning at the intermediate level through use of World Link 3. Additional course materials will incorporate the use of pronunciation practice, vocabulary acquisition, listening comprehension, and conversation.
Course Objectives: At the end of the trimester, students successfully completing this course will be able to: -Use vocabulary related to: home improvements, public figures; life stages; important life events; communication and the news; describing people, and dating- Use grammar related to: participles as adjectives, expressing prohibition, using future forms appropriately, using modals of future probability, describing people with prepositional and participial phrases
Course Requirements and Assessment: 1. Attendance, in-class participation, and homework (20%: )Come to class every day, if possible. Bring a positive attitude to class. Take an active role in your own learning: do the homework, be responsible. Please turn off your cell phones during class time, out of courtesy and respect for the other students and the teacher. This is now the school’s policy. Note: Successful completion of the course requires an attendance rate of at least 70%.2. Compositions (30%) Two compositions will be assigned this trimester.
3. Unit tests: There will a review quiz after each unit. (30%) 4. Final Exam (20%)
Note: Students must achieve 70% of the course requirements to receive a passing grade
FYI: At the end of the spring term (in June), there will be an Exit exam covering ALL the material in the book over the three trimesters. Students must pass this exam to obtain a Level certificate and to continue to the next level.
Homework and absences: Students who are absent are responsible for doing homework for the day they missed and for coming to the next class with their homework done. In addition, it is recommended that students keep a vocabulary journal.
Passing grade: Students must achieve 70% of the course requirements in order to receive a passing grade.
Exit exam: At the end of the spring term, there will be an Exit Exam covering ALL the material in the book over the three trimesters (Units 1-12). Students must pass this exam to obtain a level certificate and to continue to the next level. While passing this exam is required in order to pass the course, all the assessment criteria above will also count toward the final grade.

Library Hours: Monday - Friday 9:00 to 21:00; Saturday 11:00 to 13:45 All students in the English Department are encouraged to take advantage of the library’s ample selection of English language materials, including books, films, magazines, and newspapers. You must take two photos and your current class receipt to the librarian to get a library card. Use of the library will be an essential part of this course; students are strongly encouraged to solicit a library card before the second meeting of class.
Language exchanges: All students in the IIE adult program have the opportunity and are encouraged to participate in language exchanges (intercambios) with North American university students. Group language exchanges will be announced in class and on the iie.es web page. Students of all language levels are welcome. Students can request an individual language exchange partner in the English Department office.
