Intrastate Migrants
• 90% of female migrants were intrastate, which means they stayed in their own state, the rest of them moved around
• 79% of male migrants were intrastate

Reasons for Migration
• During the decade of 1991 to 2001, 33 million males and 65 million females migrated

Migration Destinations
• largest migration destination is Uttar Pradesh, totalling 41%.
• Maharashtra, constituting 32%
• Orissa alone, provided 34% of the total migrants going to these states
• Majority of mgirants go to bordering states

• 50% of intrastate migrants move to Maharashtra
• 30% of migrants moved to Gujarat and Haryana
• Only 20% of migrants didn’t go to one of these three places
