    RESEARCH PAPER WRITING1. Know the requirements.

    2. Make sure your topic has been approved by yourteacher.

    3. Do not attempt to take the shorter route.4. Acknowledge all information you get from books, articles,

    and from the internet.

    5. Keep all your drafts, notes, references and the outlineinside an envelope.

    6. Keep your list of references updated on a separate sheetof paper.

    7. Know what processes keep you from writing and changethem.

    TOPICS TO AVOID

    1. Topics that can adequately developed from a single source.Ex: The Seven Layers of the Atmosphere.

    2. Topics that are so technical that the writer cannot understand his/hermaterial, much less present it intelligibly to others.Ex: Convergence and Divergence of Acid Rain and the Greenhouse Effect.

    3. Topics that can be developed solely from personal experience and thereforedo not require research.Ex: Why Love is Blind.

    4. Topics that are too narrow or too trivial for a paper of suggested length.Ex: The Difference Between a Centimeter and a Millimeter

    5. Topics that are so subjective that they cannot be significantly influenced byresearch.Ex: Why Females are the Stronger Sex (aka Why Girls are Better than Boys)

    6. Questions that dwell on morality or ethics and those that require valuejudgment.Ex: Should there be prayer in the classroom?
