www.myOrb.comIoT in particular
• IoT is about device explosion• Cost/Yield effective
• Builds on M2M• Precursor to Web of Things
• IPv6 addressing• End game distribution
• Sense, compute, and transmit functions
• Multiple domains, protocols, applications
• Ultimately requires better• Indexing, storing, and

www.myOrb.comIoT Evolution to Web of Things
• The Web of Things needs to model the real world by representing objects at different levels of abstraction• not just connected devices, but can also people and places, and abstract ideas• E.g. events (e.g. a concert), organizations, and time periods (e.g. the 70s). • Things can also have histories, e.g. for a car, recording the sequence of previous owners.
• Each thing can have one or more virtual representations (avatars) with• Identities, rich descriptions, services, access control and data handling policies, web accessible URIs • easier to build applications and services that combine information from different sources and different
levels of abstraction.• The key enabler is Open ecosystems with
• rich descriptions and shared data models, in service platforms in the cloud or at the network edge, device drivers in gateways that use IoT protocols to access embedded / constrained devices, and web protocols to expose them to service platforms.• scripting languages like JavaScript for direct access to IoT sensors and actuators from the browser and protocols such as HTTP and WebSockets• data encodings such as JSON and EXI, formats for data and metadata, including Linked Data,

www.myOrb.comStandards are the priority
Internet of Things not Intranet of Things• Adoption barriers/enablers across range of stakeholders
• Technical • Preferably open source hardware and software
• Eco-system• Academia, • Corporate and SME• Local, national and regional policy makers• Standards bodies (power, wireless, chip design)
• Developers• Makers, geeks, hackers, designers and artists
• Citizens

www.myOrb.comBut complex landscape now…
• Evolutionary nature & Multiple Standards Bodies– multiple existing technologies applicable across multiple verticals– IEEE, IETF, 3GPP, oneM2M, HGI, BBF, ITU (ITU-T Y.2060)
• Cornerstones of functionality– Connectivity, Vertical data models, RESTful APIs, Device lifecycle management,
• Device to Device, Device to Server data and Server to Server sharing– JSON objects for data interchange
• Each protocol has at least 10 implementations!– MQTT: a protocol for collecting device data and communicating it to servers– XMPP: a protocol for connecting devices to people– DDS: a fast bus for integrating intelligent machines – AMQP: a queuing system designed to connect servers to each other
All rights reserved myOrb.com© Copyright Myorb Limited 2015
www.myOrb.comAnd more to come…
Ongoing Research• Lightweight protocols & Structured data
– e.g. Efficient XML Interchange
• Interworking technologies and systems – Network Functions Virtualization & Cloud
• Advanced indexing, naming, and addressing
• Optimization and enhancement of the current standard architectures
• Crowd-sourcing sensors and actuators• Abstraction and Semantics technologies
for devices and services
Field Trials• Smart cities• Digital IoT/M2M Management
– Device management evolutions, Autonomous management, Conflict management, service harmonization
• Next gen open platforms & hardware – Security, Trust, Privacy and Identity
All rights reserved myOrb.com© Copyright Myorb Limited 2015
www.myOrb.comCommercial Potential and Trust as an enabler
• The standards challenge plays out across all projects– ‘Do it now’ vertical silo or future proof for full commercial potential using open
standard ecosystems• Across various technical aspects
– identification, discovery and interoperation of services across platforms from different vendors,
– security, privacy, scalability and accessibility• Trust Management in general is key
– Identity for devices, users, applications and services means and end to end solution– A means to verify metadata, e.g. the provenance of data, or location of a given sensor

www.myOrb.comVisual Organisation
Is messiness as evil and unproductive, as we are taught?• Psychology suggests not just symptomatic of poor standards or effort, but might actually provoke creativity
as "being around messiness would lead people away from convention, in favor of new directions.“ - Kathleen Vohs - New York Times
Messiness Spurs Creativity• Adults invited to tidy or "messy rooms, and presented with one of two smoothie menu, labeled as "classic“
or "new."– People greatly preferred convention in the tidy room and novelty in the messy room.
• Adults in a messy environment came up with "28% more creative" ideas for unconventional uses of ping pong balls, with the same total number of ideas across the groups
Order has opportunity costs• "Creativity is spurred when things that we tend not to organize in the same category come together. When
you allow some messiness into a system, new combinations can result. If you keep all your tools in the tool shed and all your kitchen utensils in the kitchen, you might never think of using a kitchen utensil as a tool or vice-versa.“ - Eric Abrahamson (CBS) notes

The need for myorb.com
Aggregation is vital component of this new information rich paradigm• We need a dashboard or console• Based in standardized protocols and using APIs for access and managementProductivity and Collaboration are compromised for knowledge workers and Gen Z ‘digital natives’• fragmented content over splintered communications is the issue• Collaboration is also a necessary condition for the success of IoT• Vertically and horizontally across economies, services, consumption, innovation, and events
– For example MeetUps or project iKaaSMyorb is such a platform• the easy way to gather, order, and selectively share all your digital information, visually, and from one placeArchitectural compliance• The user facing component of an IoT system is an application• Web app languages used
– HTML5, JavaScript, using Angular, JQuery, Ruby on Rails, Vagrant and other standard libraries– Web Components to come

www.myOrb.comWhat’s the Problem?
Big Data – Information OverloadWe are confronted with data from more sources than ever before and we face an information overload on a daily basis.
Multiple Storage Drives & Devices – Location OverloadWith our information stored across multiple email accounts, subscription based cloud drives, local drives and devices, we waste a lot of time trying to find information.
Fragmented Collaboration – Communication OverloadBecause of the nature of email threads and communication streams, the information needed when working on a collaborative project can get lost amongst redundant messages between other team members.
Data Exploitation - Advertising OverloadWith the rise in online surveillance and targeted advertising, online communities are flooded with advertising, with technology companies reliant on selling their user’s data to survive.

A New Type of StructuremyOrb offers a new type of sharing structure. Rather than partitioning social graphs, users create spaces where they can build separate environments to reflect real life sharing needs. This enabled users to express themselves freely within the context of the space.
Private First, Social SecondThe owner has complete control over the content and members of each space, with users simply in a space or not. All information, members & communications are stored within each space, making it private and secure by default. Due to this, further privacy controls are not needed.
User AccountabilityThe space owner is legally responsible for the members and content. This means that our community of users monitor themselves, which delivers a significant ethical, strategic and cost advantage when copyright, libel and privacy laws inevitably catch up with the web.
Facebook, Google and Twitter cannot (currently) economically monitor their users content.
Privacy - Built into our DNA

myOrb’s Independent Status and What it Means for you
Myorb Limited is a private, independently owned technology company. With no investors to answer to, we can place improving the user experience at the core of everything we do.
A Transparent VoiceOur independent status enables us to have a transparent voice in the industry where we can bring some balance to the privacy debate.
Low Noise and PrivateFree from the need for short term profiteering, driven by a stratospheric evaluation, we can steer clear of aggressive advertising and data exploitation.
Intellectual LeadershipOur core competence is reflected in a team that strives for intellectual leadership in the market and predicts the possibilities of emerging technology and how they will shape, redefine and reinvent the industry.
www.myOrb.com
Cloud StorageCollaborating through subscription based cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive means everyone you collaborate with needs to buy their own storage which, particularly in enterprise, gets expensive.
Where we come in… In myOrb, all members of a space get the benefit of the owner’s storage.
Group Emails
Email lists work at the outset of a project but quickly become difficult to navigate when more than two people are communicating.
Where we come in… With options to make notes on individual items, instantly chat and send whole group emails when needed, communications can be confined to exactly where and between who they are needed.
