ABSTRACT
Population viability analysis of reintroducing brow-antlered deer (Cervus eldi thamin) was procedure mainly both in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, Uthai Thanee Province and some wildlife propagation centers. The objectives were to investigate viability of the 44 animal within 10-50 years after release. Two data sources both came from captive conditions and data that collected from the entire released animal were use to analyzed. In case of the deer in captive found that reproductive pattern of the animal was polygynous. Female animal had an average sexual maturity of 2 years old. The male animal reproduced with female at an average of 1 year old. Maximum age that can reproduce was 10 years old. Probability of animal that gave birth to be male was 48.59%. The average number of new born was 1 individual per female per 1 time. Probability of female that reproduced with male can give birth was 95.29% with 2.17 standard deviation. The results from 6 month period after released 44 deer into the wild found that composed of 51.2% sexual maturity male. The mortality rates of the released animal were 82.35 % and 86.67 % occurred in female and male respectively. The result of the viability analysis showed the declining of released population although the program starts with 100 individuals. Nevertheless if the released program can reduce the mortality rate to less than 40% the released population can survive sustainably. Sex ratio between male and female of the animal that was suitable for reintroduction program was 1:3 or 1:4.
