PENNSYLVANIA BOWLER
ROLLS 900 SERIESARLINGTON, Texas - Dale Gerhard of Mill Hall, Pennsylvania,
became the 28th bowler, and second in a week, to roll three 300 games
for a 900 series in United States Bowling Congress-certified competi-
tion.
Gerhard rolled 36 consecutive strikes during the Inter-Community
league at Harvest Moon Bowling Lanes in Linden, Pennsylvania, also
becoming the oldest bowler to accomplish the feat at age 59.
Mark Wukoman of Greenfield, Wisconsin (2006) and Joe Scarborough
of Charlotte, North Carolina (2013) both were 50 years old when they
joined the elite club.
Gerhard's achievement is pending approval from USBC and would bethe 29th USBC-approved 900. David Sewesky of Dearborn, Michigan,
rolled the 28th 900 in history on Sunday.
"I saw the pins go down, and I was happy, but it didn't quite hit me
right away," said Gerhard, who entered the night averaging nearly 240
this season in the Inter-Community league. "I didn't know what to do or
think. I couldn't even sleep last night. You always want to do something
like this, but you never think you can. You can throw the same ball 12
times and not strike every time, so there's a little bit of luck involved,
too."
Gerhard has strung strikes on many occasions and found himself sur-
prisingly calm while closing out Tuesday's perfect series. Talking with
his teammates and other friends in the 16-lane bowling center kept his
mind off the score.
"I was sitting with my team and talking about other things, and goof-
ing around with them really helped," said Gerhard, who now owns 28
perfect games and 22 series of 800 or better. "You can still feel the pres-
sure, especially when the whole league is behind you, but I was prettycalm. I breathed in and breathed out and went through my routine on
each shot."
The first USBC-approved 900 occurred Feb. 2, 1997 when Jeremy
Sonnenfeld rolled three consecutive perfect games in Lincoln,

Elmwood Park, NJ – Thirty-six
high school teams, twenty in the
boys division and a record sixteen
in the girls, converged at Parkway
Lanes for the 14th annual FDU
Team Championships. When the
grueling three-game standard
qualifying round concluded, eight
squads from each division, seeded
by total pinfall, advanced to the
Baker format best two of three sin-gle game quarterfinal brackets.
The four winners went on to the
best two of three semi-finals and
the victors in a best three of five
game battle for the respective divi-
sion titles.
In the boys division, NJIC
Colonial Division power
Hawthorne, seeded fifth, went on
a tear, taking out fourth seed
Lyndhurst, then shocking top-seed
Indian Hills to advance against
unranked upstart seventh seed
Demarest who upset second seed
Passaic Tech and third seed
Paramus. After spotting the
Norsemen a two-game lead,
Hawthorne fought back to tie 2 ½-
2 ½ forcing the rarely used modi-
fied Baker five frame [6th thru
10th] game. Incredibly, the Bears
rolled a perfect seven-strike game,winning the crown, 150-88.
In the girls match-ups, Bergen-
Passaic’s top four ranked teams all
advanced to the semis and the two
top seeds, defending champ
Westwood and Holy Angels, faced
off in the finale where the latter
took game five, emerging as this
year’s new champion.
HACKENSACK, NJ – In Stan Niemiec
Youth Travel League, 15-year-old
Indian Hills sophomore Ryan McGuire
grabbed center stage with a stellar 703
set, fashioned with a triple deuce 234-
258-211.
Ryan began his first game with three
opens, but then found his zone and fin-
ished the game with nine strikes. His
Holiday I team was unstoppable the first
two games, taking five of seven points
from Boonton.
Aiding Ryan was brother Alex with
254-636, Dave Neil 224-201 and Nick
Cilento 217. Clearing the pin deck for
Boonton was anchor Erik Kattermann,
posting a strong 243-224-649.
The talented Hi-Tor squad put togeth-
er nine deuces, but still dropped five
points to pace-setting Bowler City III,
2833-2771. Stroking consistent above-
average numbers throughout the match
for the victors were anchor Nathan
Tombo 196-196-202-594, Nick Reyes
202-191 and David Grant 209-188.
Lighting up the leaderboard for Hi-Tor
were Johnny Toscano 223-207-216-646,
Brandon Smith 209-222-610, Nino
Sparta 209-203-588 and Nick Sparta
204-201.
Montvale strengthened its hold on sec-
ond place by turning back Fair Lawn,
2670-2610 behind 15-year-old Pascack
Valley sophomore Henry Tipping post-
ing 205-196-221-622 and Joseph
Mahoney 207. Fair Lawn's numbers
included Steve Plaszky 234, Madison
Perry 232, Tyler Nappi 202-186 and
Nick Greco 201-193 .
Bowler City II leapfrogged Holiday II
to take over third place, winning its
encounter in a nail-biter for the wood
point, 2738-2732. Top scores for BC II
came from Allie Woodhouse 212-191,
Matt Burzynski 195 and Matt Ramos
