FROM THE
PASTOR Dear Parishioners, This Sunday, the Octave Day of Easter, is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. Not only that, but the Gospel reading at Mass on this Second Sunday of Easter is always the passage from the Gospel of John that tells the story of "doubting" Thomas -- the apostle who refused to accept the testimony of the other disciples who had seen the risen Lord, and insisted that he would not believe unless he touched the nail marks in the Lord's body. When the Lord appeared to them again a week later with Thomas present, Thomas proclaimed "My Lord and my God!" But Jesus remarked, "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." We are all a little bit like Thomas these days. Thomas was not present with the other disciples when Jesus appeared to them on the evening of the first day of the week. And we have not been present with one another in the gathering of believers in the church community on Sunday, the Lord's day, the first day of the week. Thomas, because he was not present, was filled with doubts. We too may be full of doubts these days and questioning many things. Our faith is strengthened when we gather together in the assembly of the Church and profess our faith together. I hope that none of us will allow our doubts to overcome us during this uncertain time when we are not able to reinforce our faith in this communal way. Rather we must be strong in faith, and find other ways to reinforce our faith, remembering what Jesus told Thomas: "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." Today, let us affirm our faith in Jesus Christ, risen from the dead. Even in these uncertain times, with our minds preoccupied and our thoughts and worries about the future weighing on us, still, let us tell Him, "Jesus, I trust in You!" I want to remind you that the Vatican has granted an Emergency Plenary Indulgence in this time of pandemic, to anyone who, with the will to fulfill the usual conditions of sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion and prayer according to the Holy Father's intentions as soon as possible, recites the Divine Mercy Chaplet with the intention to implore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for those afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom the Lord has called to Himself. Please note that since it is currently not practically possible to actually receive sacramental confession and Holy Communion, it suffices to have the intention of doing so as soon as may be practically possible, in order to obtain the indulgence. Dear friends, let us persevere in faith and trust in the Lord at all times. Let us pray for one another. Your Pastor, Msgr. Stephan Moloney

FINANCIAL HEALTH
In these challenging days with many churches having an online presence for Mass instead of meeting in person, it is important that every member realize this truth: While our on - site worship services may have been cancelled, the ongoing mission & ministry continues and we are thankful for your generous continued support. We encourage those still using envelopes to mail your Sunday offertory envelopes to the parish office or sign up for your bank’s online bill pay service. (please do not send cash) to St. Andrew Parish 1899 McCoy Rd. Columbus OH 43220 Another and perhaps better way to contribute is through our online giving as no physical processing is required. We currently have over 450 parishioners who give electronically. It’s safe, secure and allows us to process contributions quickly. Once you login, can choose both your regular contribution & from a list of our special funds from which you can choose, as well as see your contribution record for each fund to which you donate. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS About Rescheduling Baptisms, Weddings & Other Events We’re receiving many calls and emails with questions regarding upcoming Baptisms, Weddings and other events. In accordance with the governor’s executive order, the Diocese announced that all public liturgies are canceled until further notice. This includes baptisms, funerals, and weddings. Emergency sacraments are permitted; parishioners should contact the parish office at 614-451-4290 and leave a message on the sacramental emergency line in the case of a baptism or anointing needed in an urgent situation.
For Baptisms Once we get notice that we are able to resume baptisms, those who had baptisms schedule in March, April and May should contact the parish secretary, Kelly Nasdeo to reschedule. [email protected]
For Weddings If you would like to check on future dates, for the quickest response, email Kelly at [email protected] and she will work with you on checking the availability on the church calendar of the dates in which you are interested. However for all other wedding related questions for weddings already scheduled should be directed to the clergy assigned to your wedding. We appreciate your patience as we work through this. Keep your minds on Christ Jesus.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? Catholic Life Explained: Discerning Vocations
Question: What does it mean to discern a vocation? Answer: The word vocation comes from the Latin word vocare, meaning “to call.” A vocation is a calling or invitation from God to serve in a particular way. For Catholics, that calling might be as a priest, sister, or married person. Vocation is the way we respond to the invitation to share in God’s grace and witness to God’s love in the world. Discerning a vocation is the process in which we pray for God’s guidance. We listen for God’s message that is often quiet and unassuming in a world filled with noise and distractions. We look at our gifts and talents, seek the advice of others, examine our motives, and listen to see what God is asking of us. The goal of discernment is to follow what the Lord wills, not what we think is the best idea. Many men enter a seminary to discern if that is their vocation, only to discover that their calling is to marriage. Others have resisted the idea for long periods of time, until finally they could resist no more. Some great saints have described that dilemma. Vocation is a human process of divine origin, and each of us must strive constantly to hear the call of God in our lives.
RESPONDING TO THE CALL EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP
Recognize God In Your Ordinary Moments
The early days of the first Christian community were not easy by any measurement. Jesus had been executed, and his disciples had to be discreet so as not to meet a similar fate. Jesus was now risen, but the truth of his resurrection was not accepted by all. However, the depiction of that early community in Acts 2:42-47 would lead someone to believe it was the opposite situation. We are told of community life where people lean on each other and share great joy. They ate and prayed together, and many wonders and signs were occurring to lift the community and bear witness to the power of Jesus Christ. They were disciples living out their faith, and it was their strong sense of stewardship that made all this possible in the face of threatening Roman and Jewish powers. Today, we find the Church in a new turmoil. Increasing secularism, abuse scandals, and a lack of true fidelity place us once again in a time that is not easy. A friend of mine likes to say that any challenge of sin we encounter in the Church has its origin in a lack or misunderstanding of the stewardship way of life. We create our burdens by not using our gifts wisely and by turning inward selfishly. Could we use the story in Acts of the early Church to help us today? If we begin with the decision to give of ourselves completely to God and His people, will we become agents of change? There is only one way to find out.
Saint Faustina of Lodz, Poland, received from Our Lord in the 1930’s, a message of Divine Mercy that she was told to spread throughout the world. “Paint an imagine according to the pattern you see, with
the signature, Jesus I Trust In You” (Diary 47) “I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish. I also promise victory over its enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death. I myself will defend it as my own glory (Diary 48) In the Divine Mercy devotion, God’s love is unlimited and available to everyone! Especially the greatest sinners.

Prayer to Saint Thomas, the Apostle
O Glorious Saint Thomas, your grief for Jesus was such that it would not let you believe he had risen unless you actually saw him and touched his wounds. But your love for Jesus was equally great and it led you to give up your life for him. Pray for us that we may grieve for our sins which were the cause of Christ’s sufferings. Help us to spend ourselves in his service and so earn the title of “blessed” which Jesus applied to those who would believe in him without seeing him. Amen.
GOSPEL
REFLECTION
DESPITE THE LOCKED DOORS
As we age, we come to expect letdowns and disappointments. Because of so many unfulfilled promises and unmet expectations, we become cynical of anything that can seem too good to be true. Our hearts grow calloused to protect us from future disillusionment. And so, we come to demand proof and assurances before committing ourselves to anything.
All of us have times when we approach God with a closed heart. We might fear that He will take from us more than we’re willing to give. Or, we might fear that we’ll be made fun of if we live His message in a total and radical way. Our hearts may also be hardened by doubt. With so many different religions and so many different opinions, we might wonder, who’s to say which is the right way?
No matter where we are with our faith — no matter how closed our hearts may seem — Jesus can break through that closed door and reveal himself. If you can only go so far, Jesus can meet you there. If you can only believe so much, Jesus can take your hand and lead you a little further along. There is no doubt, fear, or weakness that Jesus, through the power of his resurrection and the power of his Holy Spirit, cannot surmount.
Thomas is an example for us here. He is famous for his doubt — but his story doesn’t end there. Tradition tells us that he went on to preach the Gospel in India. He is often pictured with a spear, because he was run through with a spear and killed. Doubting Thomas was martyred for his witness to the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus broke through the closed door of Thomas’ doubt and filled him with the faith which enabled him to eventually give his life for Jesus.
The same is true for us. On Divine Mercy Sunday, Jesus wants nothing more than to reveal himself to us, dispel our doubts, and lead us to freedom and peace.
