Who we are
The Toronto Aboriginal Support Services Council is a not-for-profit policy and research
organization that addresses social determinants to improve and enhance the social, economic and
cultural base of Aboriginal peoples in the City of Toronto.
The Position
TASSC is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and results-oriented individual for a contract
Research Assistant position. The candidate will be responsible for conducting research and
analysis on two-spirit youth and homelessness in Toronto. The candidate will be organized, enjoy
working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, have superior research and
communication skills, and be familiar with two-spirited youth identity politics, traditions and
concerns. This position requires a positive and forward thinking individual.
Responsibilities:
Conducting a literature review on two-spirit identities using a range of different research
methodologies
Ability to plan and execute community-based research
Providing information and analysis on research materials
Co-coordination of community outreach activities
Exhibiting a high-level of comfort and respect when engaging two-spirit members of the
Aboriginal community
Responding to external and internal enquiries
Explaining complex ideas and findings in a way that can be easily understood
Qualifications:
Must possess a university degree in a relevant discipline (Master’s degree preferred), or
equivalent experience
Superior communication skills, with a strong emphasis on research and report writing
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Knowledge of the issues affecting two-spirit urban Aboriginal peoples
Able to work independently.
Sound judgment, tact and ability to maintain confidentiality
