Originally from Juarez, Mexico, Jorge received a double B.S. in

Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering from

the University of Texas at El Paso in 2016. Him and his wife, Katherine,

now live in the state of Indiana. Jorge has over 5 years of experience

in the field of Additive Manufacturing, with a strong focus on material

extrusion processes. He joined the CMSC team at Purdue in September

of 2016.

The current focus of Jorge’s research is to develop simulation tools to

better understand material extrusion based, additive manufacturing

processes of composite materials.

The focus of Jorge’s research was to develop additive manufacturing

printing systems that can fabricate multi-material multi-functional

aerospace components. These next generation additive manufacturing

systems are engineered to become a complete manufacturing suite

able to print multiple materials using a series of 3-D printers, along with

added capabilities like micromachining, robotic placement of electronic

components, and the ability to connect electronic components with

wiring and conductive inks.

Jorge conducted experiments to study novel plasma configura-

tions for plasma/liquid interactions in a plasma electrochemical

cell. Plasma electrochemistry was used to reduce silver cations

(Ag+) in a metal salt solution to silver (Ag0) to form colloidal

silver NPs. Simultaneously, the plasma was used to evaporate

metal salt solution sessile droplets leaving behind the silver

NPs directly on a flat substrate where they can easily be used or

integrated into a device.

Led cross-functional Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis on a new Air

Handling component for an alpha phase 3.8L diesel engine. In order

to perform an accurate recollection of all the possible failure modes of

the Exhaust Air Throttle used in the 3.8L engine I had to get trained on

Integrated DFMEA which involved reviewing the component to identify

failure modes, and their causes and effects. The failure modes and their

resulting effects on the system were recorded and scored depending

on occurrence, severity and detection.
