Intergenerational News:
As a parent, you smile and appreciate it when others make comments
about the impact your child has had on their lives. At Kendal, this is a
daily occurrence. Your child makes a difference in a person’s life every
day that they attend. This month I had the privilege of giving a tour to a
prospective family when they stopped and talked to a resident. While
mom talked to this resident, I entertained Dad and the child by showing
them the Auditorium, library, and woodshop. When we rejoined the
Mom, she said to me that was the best conversation. She told me how she
used to be a preschool teacher, that this is the best program she has seen,
and how the children have touched her heart dearly. Which was then
followed up by – “And they don’t pay me to say that either!”
What a great testimonial on not only the quality of a program we have at
KELC, but also the impact that your child has on our residents!
Last week we heard from the National Association for the Education of Young Children and KELC’s accreditation was renewed for
another five years! The first half of the year has been very busy with NAEYC and SUTQ visits as well as preparing for 11 children to
go to Kindergarten this fall. Our Preschool Graduation is right around the corner and the teachers have put a lot of effort and hard-work
on preparing everyone for a positive transition to Kindergarten. For those not going to Kindergarten we have been hard at work
preparing them for the time when it is their turn to transition.
As we look ahead, I know 2014 still has many great things in store for KELC, and I look forward to sharing them with you!
Have a great month! ~ Jeni Hoover

From Your Child’s Teacher:
From the Classroom:
June is here! We have been having a blast exploring music. The children have really loved all of
the parents and residents that have showed them their musical talents. Mary Price, Lydia’s mom, came
in and did music class with them. Tom Rice, Josh’s dad, played the trombone for us and Amira’s
grandma, Anita, played the jumbi for us. Charlie’s uncle and mom came in and played the snare drum
for us and showed us all kinds of different guitars. We also had residents Dennis and Judy come in to
sing for us. As we close out our music study next week, we will start talking about blocks and building
as the children have been making some great creations with blocks in the classroom.
We have also been busy planting our garden. We planted tomatoes, green beans, peppers, and
strawberries. The children also helped plant all the beautiful flowers on the play yard. It is looking great
and the children are already enjoying eating the juicy, red strawberries.
We welcomed Marie back this month as she had to be away for a time. The children were so
excited to have her back in the classroom and healthy.
Have a great month!
