PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Lori McKay
WHAT A YEAR!
It is hard to believe that another year has come
and gone! As the month of June roles itself out,
Bowmore teachers, students and parents continue to
work hard planning activities and festivities for our
students.
Our Grade 8 graduates are in the throes of
planning their end of the year trip. The much anticipated
“Lion King” musical is in the midst of rehearsals. We
have our track and finalists practicing daily for the City
Finals. Our parent community has been busy preparing a
staff appreciation luncheon. Let’s not forget the hard
work, time and energy it takes to put on the Bowmore
Carnival.
A special thank you to the School Council for
their incredible dedication to our school and students. I
would like to thank Elizabeth Grundon and Viviana
Kohon for their continued support. Without your positive
energy and enthusiasm, Bowmore would not be the same.
To my incredible staff, your dedication, passion
and commitment to our students is truly appreciated. I
commend you for many successes such as Eco Gold,
funds raised for Fort McMurray, Robotics club going to
provincials, just to name a few.
As I move into my third year as Bowmore’s
Principal, I look forward to the 2016/2017 school year.
On behalf of Mme Taillefer, Mr. Naidoo and myself, I
would like to wish all our families a safe and relaxing
summer.
Our first day of school is September 6th
, 2016.
All the best!
Lori McKay

CARNIVAL
Friday, June 17th 3-7pm
Bowmore Carnival - Friday June 17 3-7pm
We need more than 80 parent volunteers for fun jobs like face painting, supervising bouncy castles, selling tickets, etc. No messy jobs like grilling because we have 4 fabulous food trucks coming. If you can sign up for a 1 hour shift, email Krista Nolan at [email protected]. Let us know
your preference for time, to work with a friend, or what task you'd like to do.
Bowmore Movie Night Volunteer Coordinator Needed
Move nights - held every month or two during the school year - are a community tradition in Bowmore. They're fun for the kids, and they help Bowmore School Council raise funds to support programs like Scientists in the Classroom and Artists in the Classroom. The outgoing movie night coordinator will be available as a resource and you will of course have the help of School Council and our volunteers. If you're available to volunteer, please reply to me and I'll put you in touch with the current coordinator.

Sun Safe Behaviour
Getting students outside and active
is good for their health but too
much sun can have serious side-
effects, including burns, eye
damage, premature aging of the
skin and skin cancer. We
encourage all students to practice
“sun safety.”
What exactly does sun safe
behaviour look like?
• Cover up: Even on days with a
moderate UV index students
should wear a hat and sunglasses,
especially if they'll be outside for
over 30 minutes.
• Stay cool: Students should stay in
shady areas, particularly at midday
when the sun is strongest.
• Use sunscreen: Choose
sunscreens with SPF 15 or higher
that include protection from both
UVA and UVB rays.

Lion King Jr. at Bowmore by Emily M. 8-6
June 14th, June 15th and June 16th, 2016 It's time to play the music; it's time to light the lights. It's time to put on makeup, it's time to dress up right. It's almost time to raise the curtain on the Bowmore musical. After months of auditions, chorus rehearsals, and learning choreography and blocking, Bowmore's production of "The Lion King" opens in less than one month. Be prepared to be transported to the African Savannah, home to lions, wildebeests, and even hyenas. For months the cast, ensembles, crew, and directors have been working nonstop to get the show ready for opening night. They spend their time building sets, learning African chants, and rehearsing choreography. It's hard to find students and teachers more dedicated than those working on the musical. When you walk into a rehearsal you can feel the excitement and energy in the air. There's also a surprising sense of professionalism for a junior-intermediate musical. One of the show's directors calls the students " Genuine artists”. As a member of one of the musical's ensembles I can assure you, you're in for a treat. With creative choreography and powerful vocals you won't want to miss a moment. Curtains open at 7:00 p.m. ( door open at 6:30). June 14th, 15th, and 16th. Tickets will be on sale at $10 for adults and $5 for students. Ticket order envelopes will be sent home the week of June 6th. Please return all completed ticket orders (with payment) to the Lion King bin in the office. Orders will be filled and sent home with students.
