“Keiko Matsui works predominantly in porcelain. Her work begins on the potter’s wheel and is
then manipulated, cut and reassembled to evoke a quiet and subtle abstraction. Making and
reinterpreting objects is her focus, and she pays particular attention to the form, proportion
and profile of a vessel, and the interconnectedness beetweeen the interior and exterior.
What Keiko loves most is the mental solace she finds at the potter’s wheel. While she admits
that there are ever-present challenges on the technical side, these can always be solved. The
most difficult aspect is emplying her head and keeping up her work every day.”
