WEEK 10, TERM 2
Principal’s Message
Congratulations to our Kirrawee Public School Band. On Monday I had the privilege to attending the
BANDFEST program at the Kogarah Civic Centre. Our school band performed with confidence and
commitment. The band achieved a “SILVER AWARD”. The adjudicator reported our band had
exceptional rhythm and alignment. Thank You to all staff who assisted with the success of the band
program.
Volunteering to support the school
The P & C are in need for more volunteers to help with school fundraising events. Currently a very small
group are doing an exceptional job. Many schools now have to raise their own funds for activities and
supplies that once were considered basic necessities, and parent volunteers are essential to organizing
and chaperoning these fundraising events and other school activities.
Even if you haven't been involved in the past, it's never too late to start. In fact, it may be more
important than ever to get involved before students reach secondary school. Remember, that not
everyone is suited for the same type of involvement — you may have to "try on" a number a few
activities before you find something that feels right. If you're at a loss for how you can help, just ask
your child's teacher, who will likely be glad to help you think of something!
Remember that volunteering not only benefits your kids, but will enrich the classroom, the whole school,
and the entire community by providing students with positive interaction, support, and encouragement.
Thank You to the staff, students and community members who supported our school across a variety of
programs during T2.It needs to be noted without your support and engagement the students at Kirrawee
PS will be at a disadvantage. Thanks again for your support.
Students return to school on TUESDAY 19 July 2016.

Premiers Reading Challenge
Congratulations to: Tyne Hadenham KW Juliet Irwin KW Stella Nichols KP Brayden Martin KP Jayden Krogh 3/4M Alexander Ranken 1/2B These students have completed the 2016 PRC. I would like to remind you that the PRC deadline (19th August) is fast approaching. So it’s now time to get busy and complete the required number of books that is: K-2 = 30 books 3- 4 = 20 books 5- 6 = 20 books Could you please send student Reading Record Cards to me in the library so that I can process them in advance and acknowledge them in the next KPS newsletter.
A special note to K-2 parents, even if your child’s PRC Reading Record card is still incomplete please return it to me because many of the books shared each week during their library lesson are K-2 PRC titles and I can include them and sign off on them myself because at the K-2 PRC level students are not required to read each book independently.
Please remember all student Reading Record Cards must be returned to me by early August to meet the 19th August deadline and to allow for checking of records and final processing. Thank you Mrs Jennifer Ivison Teacher-Librarian

KINDERGARTEN REPORT Over this Term ALL of the kindergarten children have been involved in Kindy dance. We dance every Friday and have a vast repertoire of dances we do. Currently we have been dancing to Just Dance which incorporates some great songs and moves. We have also been learning to use a new computer program called animate, where the children can create their own animations. We’ve also been looking at coding and have created simple codes for games. They have really enjoyed doing this!

Stage 1 Report For speeches this week we are reflecting on what we have been learning and what we would like to improve on for next term. We have been most impressed by the huge effort that has been put into speeches this term. We will be looking forward to hearing the children’s speeches next term when they will speaking about t topic of their choice. A reminder that all students need to speak for approximately 2 minutes. In maths we have looked at Chance and words associated with that – certain, impossible, maybe, possible, likely, unlikely. A conversation about impossible events happening at school elicited some funny responses! We enjoyed working with the Beebots for some work we did on Position. We enjoyed having our student teachers working with us these past 4 weeks. They did many exciting lessons and the teachers certainly appreciated having the extra pairs of hands in the classrooms. We are closing our lessons on Water this week and have enjoyed learning about the water cycle and sources of water. Mrs Karen Beckman (Year 1/2 teacher)

Stage 2 Report
It is almost the end of the end of Term: 2 and we are half way through the year. Stage Two have had a busy semester with an excursion, student teacher, NAPLAN tests, ICAC tests, Cross Country, Athletics Carnival, Choir, Dance and Band rehearsals and performances just to mention a few learning experiences. Assessment and Reporting has occurred so please remember Parent/Teacher Interviews this week. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday. Mr Morgan and Miss Kirkis (Stage Two Teachers)
Stage 3 report We’re now coming to the end of a busy but enjoyable term 2. Stage 3 have been working hard on their speeches for their homework over the last few weeks. These speeches should be completed by week 1 of next term so that they can be presented to classes throughout weeks 2 and 3. A note will go out this week with further information. A big congratulations to Maya and Elwyn, who last week represented the school at the Multi-cultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. These two students worked hard for this event and both did a fantastic job!
Stage 3 have an excursion to the Rocks in week 2 of term 3 where will be exploring the history of our early settlers in Sydney. This will further compliment our theme unit on Early Colonial Australia. Next term we will also be starting a new theme unit looking at the natural changes to our environment, with a particular focus on bushfires. Have a great holiday everyone! DANCE REPORT Last Tuesday 21st June the senior dance group had their technical rehearsal and then evening performance for the regional dance festival, at the Seymour Centre. It was a very early start to the day as we headed by bus into the city. The girls were very well behaved and a pleasure to take along. We had our technical rehearsal, where the lighting was worked out and a run through of the dance. The girls received some very positive feedback. Then it was back again that night for our evening performance, where once again the girls were a delight to have and they danced well. A very big thank you to Wendy from Wam Dancers, who accompanied the girls to both the rehearsal and night performance and to Miss Kirkis for her extra support on the evening performance. Next term will be a busy term for both junior and senior dance groups so stay tuned for more news.
