As you can see the last time the Knicks were above 500. was the00-02 season. Once this season is over it will be a franchise-record9 straight years
the Knicks have not made the playoffs or even been mediocre,The team has been plain terrible. When a franchise loses for so
long, a losing culture sets in.
Not just the players, but ownership, staff and everyone around theteam becomes used to it, they forget how to win, or in the case ofyoung players, never learn how to.
It·s not to say the players don·t care, but when someone is aroundsuch bad basketball and losing for so long it makes it easier toshow up everyday. The lack of consistent effort, especially ondefense, is a great reflection this culture taking hold of the team.Losing just comes too easily to these guys.

The salary cap is expected to decrease from the
current $58.6 million due to the current economicsituation in the NBA.
"Teams know exactly what's happening. They
know what their finances are. They know what theissues are. They also know that the cap is going tostart -- the cap is coming down, and the [luxury taxthreshold]," Stern said. "If you don't have a lot ofhigh-revenue growth over the next couple of years,
there may be a slowdown. But teams know therules, and they can assess their own situations.µ
-David Stern

Assessing the Knicks' situation, the cap-clearing trades earlier this season
of guard Jamal Crawford and forward Zach Randolph gave the Knicks a27.3 million dollar decrease for the 2010-2011 payroll.
However the Knicks have Eddy Curry who is still at 11.3 million is undercontract for the 2010-2011 season, they also have player options forWilson Chandler ($2.1 Million) and DaniloGallinari ($ 3.3 million).
The Knicks will also be committed to paying their 2009 draft picksomewhere around $5.6 million dollars if they miss the playoffs and winthe draft lottery) and $1.8 million (if they finish eighth in the East, makethe playoffs and draft 15th.)
*That adds up to something between $25.4 and $29.2 million incommitted salary for 2010-11, before factoring in whether Lee who is anunrestricted free agent is on the roster next year

Star Power is a huge leveraging toolfor Advertisements it will alsoattract fans and the star can eventranscend beyond the game.
A star with a high Q score or anyreal Star at all could be veryvaluable to the Knicks but theproblem is they don·t have one. They have an All-Star in David Leewho averages 20 points and 11rebounds but it is hard to say he isthe true face of the franchise.
Although the Knicks also haveTracy Mcgrady on their roster he isno longer a star in the NBA.
The Knicks have severalopportunities this off-season to findthat star who will give them the starpower they need to turn around thefranchise and put them back on theroad of success.
