Compliant with EN81-20/50 Lift Standards
KONE DESIGN COLLECTION
MonoSpace®500
EN81-20 & EN81-50 Lift StandardsOn 1 September 2017, implementation of the two newly published EN81-20:2014 and EN81-50:2014 standards
for lift design and manufacturing will bring considerable benefits in terms of accessibility and safety for both
passengers and service engineers on all lift handovers. All lift handovers with a Declaration of Conformity signed
and dated on/after the 1 September 2017 must be compliant to the standards.
Safety requirements for passengers
Requirements related to Unintended Car Movement (UCM) and ascending car overspeed
The requirements for the protection mechanism that address the risk of the car moving away from the landing have been enhanced. KONE already has lift solutions available that include standard features to address unintended car movement and KONE lifts also include standard features that address the risk of uncontrolled speed when the car is ascending.
Safety requirements for service engineers
Car roof balustrades
Balustrades located on the lift car roof now have defined strength requirements and updated height requirements. to reduce the risk of engineers falling into the shaft while working on the car roof. The new requirements are as follows:
• Where the distance between the inner edge of the balustrade handrail and the shaft wall is up to 500 mm, the balustrade must have a minimum height of 700 mm.
• Where the distance between the inner edge of the balustrade handrail and the shaft wall exceeds 500 mm the balustrade must have a minimum height of 1100 mm.
Changes affecting building design
The EN 81-20:2014 and EN 81-50:2014 standard introduces some changes to the requirements that the building designer is required to fulfill. These changes all apply to the lift shaft, and are as follows:
• Potential shaft size changes• All glass used in the lift shaft must be laminated.• Shaft walls to withstand 1000N• Calculations for shaft ventilation• Protection of ledges greater than 150mm
More information
For full details of the new standards, customers should refer to the official EN 81-20:2014 and EN 81-50:2014 standards documents. Please contact your local KONE representative for more information.

GOOD DESIGN ADDS REAL VALUE
A well-designed lift can have a huge impact on the way people feel about your building and connect with it. From residential buildings and hotels to retail and office environments, the ability to give people a comfortable ride in a pleasant, accessible environment speaks volume about your building and your values.
• A well-designed lift has a positive impact on everyday living in residential buildings. It should combine sophisticated design details with practical, functional features.
• In hotels and retail environments, combining inspiring design with reliable operation and excellent usability creates a positive lasting impression for guests and visitors alike.
• In commercial spaces such as offices, a visually impressive lift that also delivers great performance is a compelling factor for both potential and existing tenants.
CUTTING-EDGE DESIGN BASED ON IN-DEPTH RESEARCH
This collection is the result of years of expert design research. Drawing on continuous studies of the latest trends in architecture, design and material technology, our team of design professionals has created a diverse set of themes that appeal to a wide variety of tastes and are flexible for use in a range of different environments. The unique patterns and material finishes we offer have been created especially for KONE in close collaboration with our R&D team and our partners.
Award winning designPatterns that catch the eye. Finishes that enhance the look and feel of your building. Lighting that adds mood and atmosphere. Material combinations that inspire and delight. Add emotion to your lift with the KONE Design collection.

Top-class energy efficiency
2 Eco-efficient regenerative drive
Our latest regenerative drive recycles energy for immediate reuse within the building and cuts consumption by up to 20%.
3 Long-lasting LED lighting
As well as being 80% more efficient than halogen lighting, LED lighting also lasts 10 times longer.
4 More advanced standby solutions
Upgraded standby solutions power down the equipment when it is not in use, providing substantial energy savings.
More efficient hoisting machinery
The completely renewed KONE EcoDisc® hoisting motor and highly efficient drive system delivers even better energy efficiency, helping to reduce both operating costs and your building’s carbon footprint.
1SAVE ENERGY, SAVE SPACE
As well as offering world-class energy efficiency, because the renewed KONE MonoSpace® is now even more compact it also helps you save valuable space.
• The highly compact lift equipment – including the KONE EcoDisc hoisting machine and other mechanical structures – now requires even less height and width in the shaft.
• This frees up valuable floor space or allows for a more spacious, higher-capacity car.
• When replacing an existing lift, the new KONE MonoSpace eliminates the need for a machine room and maximises lift capacity within the existing shaft dimensions.
CONTRIBUTING TO SUSTAINABLE URBANISATION
KONE, an innovative leader in the lift and escalator
industry, is the first company to annouce the A-class
energy effciency classification according to ISO 25745-2
for its customer reference cases.
Published in March 2015, ISO 25745 is the global
standard for the energy calculation and classification
of lifts and escalators. The A-class rating is the best one
that can be given to lifts under the new standard. A+++
is the best rating that escalators can receive.
KONE has a long history in makings its lifts more energy
efficient, This has been achieved by using innovative
and eco-efficient technologies such as regenerative
drives, standby solutions and LED lighting that
drastically reduces the energy consumption of the lift.
By installing a eco-efficient KONE lift solution, you can
help achieve a green bulding accreditation such as
LEED and BREEAM for your building design.

Industry-leading ride comfortFOR THE BEST POSSIBLE PASSENGER EXPERIENCE
ALL LIFTS TESTED FOR RIDE COMFORT – A SERVICE UNIQUE TO KONE
• KONE provides a comprehensive ride comfort testing service as standard for all its lift installations.
• Your lift will not be handed over for use before it passes this test, which measures noise and vibration levels inside the car.
• This thorough quality and reliability testing prior to handover further reduces the need for unplanned maintenance callouts.
Every aspect of the upgraded KONE MonoSpace® is designed to add real value to your
building and maximise comfort, safety and convenience for passengers. The renewed
KONE EcoDisc® hoisting machine is complemented by a wide range of other upgrades
that are designed to deliver industry-leading ride comfort year after year.
32 Redesigned hoisting system for minimised vibration and noise
• Centralised, low-friction hoisting cuts noise and vibration, improving comfort for passengers and minimising disturbance to the surrounding areas.
1 Renewed machinery and brakes
• The new, highly reliable motor control system further improves ride comfort, with smooth acceleration and deceleration and highly accurate car leveling.
• The renewed braking system ensures a comfortable, safe, quiet ride, while also minimising noise transfer to the surrounding areas.
• The new brake test functionality automatically checks brake condition daily. This helps to further improve safety and reliability.
Improved car structure for a more comfortable ride
• The rigid structure and noise isolation of the renewed lift car ensure a smooth and comfortable ride.
• New isolated guide shoes, constructed using low-noise sliding material, further help to reduce noise.
