L3 Brings Future C4ISR Solutions to the Indo-Asia-Pacific Region
Developing Technology in Australia
Our highly skilled Australian workforce enables us to provide the Commonwealth of Australia with
tailored C4I solutions and in-country support, backed by our extensive local partner and supplier
network and augmented by full access to all of L3’s innovative products and systems.
L3 Australia’s Melbourne office is the regional hub for all of our Australian and New Zealand maritime
C4 projects. This office currently supports air, land and sea projects, including the classified Satellite
Communication (SATCOM) and Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (Counter-IED) programs for the
Australian Army, Electronic Surveillance and Intelligence Collection systems for the Royal Australian
Air Force (RAAF) and the advanced communications upgrades to the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN)
Collins Class submarines. L3 Australia also supports the communications systems on board Her
Majesty’s Australian Ships SIRIUS, CANBERRA and ADELAIDE, as well as the communications control
systems on board the New Zealand ANZAC Class Frigates, Her Majesty's New Zealand Ships TE KAHA
and TE MANA.
L3 is committed to providing the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) with the solutions they need to
continue to build national resilience and to solidify Australia’s capability edge in the Indo-Asia-Pacific
region. L3 Australia continues to grow its in-country capabilities through investment in personnel and
infrastructure. We customize our systems to meet unique operational profiles of the ADF and harness
emergent technology to foster innovation across Australian industry.

L3’s Fixed-Wing, Vertical Take-off and Landing Rotator (FVR-90) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
SEA 1180 – Growing Australian Industry Capability
Having delivered an increasing number of military electronics system solutions to the Australian
Defence Force for over 15 years (HMAS SIRIUS, Canberra Class LHDs, Collins Class Submarines), L3
Australia is considered a trusted and proven partner to the RAN, the ADF and the Australian defence
industry.
The FVR-90 utilises a quad-copter type lift system to enable vertical take-off and precision Differential
GPS landings, even in strong winds, without requiring bulky launch and recovery equipment. At
altitude, the FVR-90 transitions to forward fixed-wing operation to provide exceptional altitude, speed,
range and endurance. The FVR-90 has recently set an endurance record for its class of 22+ hours,
whilst landing with a mandated reserve fuel capacity. L3 Australia would provide in-country flight
certification and ongoing airworthiness support together with all logistical support, training and
maintenance.
L3 Australia is undertaking a continuous improvement program cooperatively with L3 Unmanned
Systems in support of RAN’s mission of securing Australia’s borders and Economic Exclusion Zone. The
goal is to integrate innovations in aircraft technology and capability with a range of interchangeable
payloads to meet the expanding requirements of this mission.
L3 Australia is proposing a wide spectrum of options for integration of the MTUAS command and control
and ISR sensor outputs to the mission systems of the OPV and supported parties.

Our technical solutions harness developing
Australian technology and apply our extensive
local partner and supplier networks to fully
satisfy the Australian Government’s intent to
maximise Australian Industry Capability. L3
Australia offers the system commonality and
sustainment savings that the RAN aspires to
achieve, as our naval solutions are currently
deployed on over 150 active warships
worldwide, ranging in size and complexity from
aircraft carriers and large-deck amphibious
transports, through conventional and nuclear
submarines and even down to Fast Attack Craft
and OPVs.

SEA 129 – Maritime Tactical Unmanned Air System (MTUAS)
RAN is seeking a Maritime Tactical Unmanned Air System to operate as a supporting Intelligence,
Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) asset for the Australian Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) being
developed under its SEA 1180 program. To meet and exceed these requirements, L3 Australia has
proposed offering a unique maritime Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) developed by L3 Unmanned
Systems for U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF). This UAV is named the Fixed-Wing, Vertical
Take-off and Landing Rotator (FVR-90) aircraft.

SEA 5000 – Bringing Australia High-Tech Jobs and Sustainable Industrial
Capability
L3 Australia is committed to delivering
leading-edge technology to the RAN, by
ensuring seamless interoperability across the
Australian Defence Force and with other navies
throughout the world. As a part of the SEA
5000 program, L3 Australia has the ability to
provide advanced communications systems,
platform and power management, automation,
advanced network management and cyber
security solutions. The advanced networking
and cyber security capabilities will be critical in
meeting emergent threats and allowing ships
to operate in denied and contested
electromagnetic environments.
Improved automation and power management onboard the ships supports reduced manning
requirements and will enable future expansions of the frigates to include directed energy weapons. L3
is leading this effort and will be expanding to grow its capabilities in bringing these new technologies
into Australia.
Development of Australian expertise will enable Australia to maintain its sovereign capability in
sustainable shipbuilding as desired by the Australian Government. L3’s efforts will be particularly
helpful with cybersecurity, next-generation networking and platform automation and power
management.

SEA 1000 – Largest Defence Procurement in Australia’s History
L3 has a decades-long heritage supplying communication systems to various classes of submarines
across the globe. Sound-powered telephones and integrated intercoms are early examples of our
contributions to the submarine fleet. L3’s design of an Integrated Radio Room allowed a single
operator to manage communications from a central console. Our Submarine Baseband Circuit Switch
provided a revolutionary improvement in the accuracy, reliability and execution speed of
communication plan changes. L3 is providing innovative, secure and highly reliable integrated
communication systems for future submarine designs, which greatly benefits RAN on such programs
as SEA 1000.
L3 Australia is the local team with a diverse
array of L3 businesses participating in this
program. The communications system is
expected to be a key component of the
combat system. Leveraging our extensive
submarine background in the United States
and Australia, L3 is proposing to use an
evolutionary pathway to ensure the SEA
1000 vessels are equipped with the most
effective communications suite that
emerging technologies can offer.
