Introduction Preprinted Math resources in the PTR Center are printed at the District’s in-house Print Shop. The amount charged for preprinted items in the PTR Center are based on the amount the Center is charged for print. The Center provides access to high-quality, ready-to-go resources for single or classroom-size purchases, last-minute items for a classroom event or activity, home-reinforce-ment materials, classroom presentation, or replacement items. Preprinted resources in the Center are usually printed on durable, heavyweight paper, in a variety of colors in black and white or in color.
Purchases can be charged to your building/department budget (prior approval required by the building/department administrator), PTR Center Purchasing Card, cash, personal checks or debit/credit cards, and the District Procurement Visa Card.
How to use the PTR Center WorksheetAll items purchased in the PTR Center must be purchased in person at the Center and recorded on a worksheet. There are many preprinted items available in the Center. It would be impossible to list each one by name on the worksheet without it becoming cumbersome to our customers. Therefore, there are three ways to record preprinted items: Paper Printed; Other; and Copy, color.
Paper Printed is divided into five categories. Where possible, a small, unobtrusive footer is placed on preprinted items to indicate where to mark the item on the worksheet. Some items do not fit into a Paper Printed category, therefore, the cost of the item is displayed and recorded on the PTR Center worksheet under “Other”. We also have some items that are reproduced on the PTR Center color copier. These are recorded under Copy, color. See the illustrations below for more information.
What each segment of the footer represents:
PTR Center worksheet
Preprinted items are located on the back side of the PTR Center worksheet under the heading, Paper - Printed and then followed by five preprinted categories. Using the information provided in the footer, write the total num-ber of pages in the blank space next to the appropriate preprinted category.
The purchase of one mat printed front and back would be recorded as a quantity of."2" in the blank space next to the preprinted category, "mat".
Recording the quantity of multiple units in a given category: If you were to buy 3 mats that were printed front and back, the following formula is applied to record the quantity on the worksheet: 3 mats x 2 pages (printed front and back) per mat = a total quantity of 6. Multiply total quantity x unit cost to determine total cost.
6
Recording items with a footer on the worksheetItems with footers are priced by the the total number of pages/sheets purchased in a preprinted category (front and back printing is counted as two sheets).The preprinted categories are: mats (8 1/2" x 14" to 11" x 17); paper/sheets (bond/8 1/2" x 11"); bristol/sheets (bristol/8 1/2" x 11"); posters, black & white (19" x 24"), and poster, color (17" x 22").

Fluency - Word Wall Walk
Adapted from Making Your Word Wall More Interactive
by Trisha Callella
Materials:
• Pair of dice
• Word cards
• Work mat
Object The object of the game is to be the first player to flip over all the word cards on his work mat.
Instructions 1. Lay 12 cards face up in the Flip It Over area
of the work mat.
2. Roll the dice to determine which player will begin. High roller wins.
3. Begin the game by having the first player roll the dice and find the sum of the two numbers.
4. The sum designates the word that the player is to read aloud correctly.
5. If read correctly, the student turns the card over. If read incorrectly, the card stays face up and the both players work together to decode the unknown word. The card remains face up and can be attempted again on another turn.
6. The second player continues the game by following the same steps.
7. If players roll a number they have already flipped, they lose their turn.
8. Play continues until one student has flipped over cards 2 through12.
9. To win the game, the player needs to read card 1 correctly.
adapted from 40 Sensational Sight Word Games
by Joan Novelli
Materials:

3. The player reads the card aloud.
4. If read correctly, the student writes the word on his score sheet and records the word’s point value. If read incorrectly, no points are awarded and the two players work together to decode the unknown word.
5. The second player continues the game by following the same steps.
6. If the marker lands on a number already read, the students read that word.
7. Play continues until one student has scored 50 points.

Phonemic Awareness/Phonics - Syllable Type Gesture Cards
Sound Spelling Wall Cards$3.00 Other - Sound Spelling Wall Cards: 47 cards per set, 8 1/2” x 5 1/2”
Sound/Spelling instruction, also known as phonics, attaches previously learned sounds to specific spelling. Students’ reading development relies on the understanding that letters, or combinations of letters form words. Once students understand the Sound/Spelling system, they are able to decode and encode words. Mastery will lead to fluency development.Cards are intended to be hung in the classroom where teachers and students can easily reference them. LevelGrades 1-5

Getting Ready For Kindergarten How You Can Help Your Child Prepare
Enhance your child’s listening skills... Read with your child. Stop every few pages
and ask questions about what was just read. Talk to your child and ask him what he
remembers about your conversation. For example, “After I pick you up from school, we are going to go to the grocery store and then cook chicken soup for dinner. What are we going to do after I pick you up from school?”
Cook or build with your child. Read aloud the
instructions for a simple recipe or project, then perform each step together.
Listen to books on tape while in the car. Whisper to your child. Lower your voice and
whisper slowly and clearly so your child must focus his attention on your words.
Leave instructions for your child using a tape
recorder or digital voice recorder. Leave a short chore list or send him on a “treasure hunt” using recorded clues.
Listening will be key to your child’s
success in school!
Encourage your child’s desire to be independent by encouraging him to
do things on his own... Putting his coat on and off and hanging it up Following simple two-step instructions. (Put
your shoes away and then hang up your backpack.)
Putting on, tying or fastening, and taking off
his own shoes Taking care of bathroom needs Blowing his own nose and covering his mouth
when he coughs or sneezes Fastening and unfastening simple buttons
and snaps Using utensils and eating without assistance
Help your child learn to play well with others...
Teach your child about sharing, taking turns,
compromising, and problem solving. Model these behaviors whenever possible.
Encourage your child to express her feelings
in words. Help your child to understand the feelings of
others. Look at pictures and talk about how the person in the picture is feeling and how you can tell. (“The little boy looks sad because the corners of his mouth are turned down, and he is crying.”)
“Catch” your child playing well with others and
praise her. Be specific when you point out the behaviors that you want her to continue. (“I am so proud of you! It can be very hard to share your favorite toy but you did it. Good for you!”)
Help your child develop an enthusiasm for learning…
Encourage your child to explore and be
aware of new things. Point out your child’s environment and ask
her questions about what she observes. Demonstrate how things work.
The more children notice, the more curious they become!
Create opportunities for your child to practice using fine motor skills by challenging her to… String cheerios or beads on a ribbon or shoelace. Pinch a clothespin to strengthen
muscles needed for gripping a pencil. Fill an empty spray bottle with water and provide a place where your child can spray. This
will boost writing and cutting skills. Crumple a sheet of paper in one hand to build strength in the hand and forearm. Pick up marshmallows, cheerios, pennies, etc. with large tweezers.
Help your child develop solid oral language skills and a
large vocabulary... Take your child on short field trips to
everyday places, such as a florist shop or the park. Talk about what you see along the way and when you get there.
Go to familiar places and look for the
people who work there. Discuss what jobs they perform and what tools they need to do the work.
Compare and contrast things you see.
Talk about how two things are alike and how they are different.
Encourage your child to use descriptive
words when she speaks. (The soft, gray bunny nibbled on the leafy, green grass.)
After reading a book or watching a
program on TV, ask your child to retell the story using her own words.
A well developed vocabulary is one
of the best predictors of future success in reading.
Work with your child on basic letter recognition and number sense...
Draw your child’s attention to letters
and numbers that already exist in his environment by pointing out street signs, store names, brands, etc.
Play “Letter of the Day” by choosing what
letter the two of you will be on the hunt for and then find it everywhere you can. Start with the letters in your child’s name.
Make magnetic letters available to your
child and ask him to spell simple words for you while you cook dinner. Even scrambling the letters and making his own “nonsense” words will help build letter recognition.
Play “I Spy” with your child. (“ I spy with
my little eye something with the number 3.”) Sorting objects by shape or color will lay
the foundation for basic geometry. Count out food at snack time (5 goldfish,
3 carrot sticks, 12 raisins, etc).
