Each Christmas season, a a
processionalprocessional carrying a doll
representing the Christ Child and images of Joseph and Mary riding a
burro walks walks through the through the
community streetscommunity streets.
Each night from December 16th December 16th
through through December 24thDecember 24th a party is held in
a home in the neighborhood.
The people in the
processional knock on the doors of the
home and ask for shelter (imitating
Joseph and Mary’s search for a room).
A great great partyparty
follows with foodfood, dancingdancing and the breaking breaking
of the of the piñatapiñata.
A piñatapiñata is a fragile
earthenware jar covered with paper mache, traditionally made in the
shape of a starshape of a star.
The piñata piñata is shaped like a starstar to recall the one
that so mysteriously mysteriously
guided the Three guided the Three KingsKings to the
newborn Jesus.
