The Basics1. A public charter school that serves
800 students pre k - 8 in Baltimore City.
2. The librarian is on a fixed schedule and serves the entire student population.
3. The librarian is full time and has one part time parent aide.
The Collection • Collection serves pre k -8th grade but
does not have the space for a large amount of resources. • Librarian tries to do weeding to keep
space in collection. Has updated collection by expanding graphic novels and non-fiction resources. • No digital resources or databases.
The Milton Hershey School
The Basics1. Private institution that serves K-12. It is a boarding school for students from low income backgrounds. I focused on the high school that serves 900 students in Hershey, PA.
2. The librarian is on an open schedule, with no fixed classes.
3. There are 3 part time aides and one full time librarian.
The Collection• Very contemporary collection, features
the New York Times Best sellers from both the fiction and nonfiction lists. • Large collection of graphic novels. • Includes audio collection and DVDs. • Just got iPads and is thinking about
starting an e-book option.
