The sinking boat/lifeboat scenario is one of those moral dilemmas here in the lifeboat can on
hold "# $eo$le – at first – but there ere %& of us in it. 'e ere told that the lifeboat ould sink unle
se(eral of us ould lea(e. )o, e had to decide hom to *thro off+ the lifeboat 'T-T forcin
an!one. t had to be our on choice.
t as a tough battle to in because e eren0t onl! fighting against our classmates, but e er
fighting a battle ithin oursel(es 1 a battle if our choices ere right or rong since our grades e
alread! in(ol(ed.
'e had to contem$late ithin oursel(es if e should lea(e the lifeboat in order to sa(e the li(es
others 2and get 3ero in the acti(it! or sta! in order to sa(e our on li(es 2and of course get the $erfe
score for the acti(it!. Then came the ma5or $lot tist of the acti(it!6 after lea(ing "# $eo$le to sta! in th
lifeboat, the sur(i(ors found out that onl! 7 ill be able to sur(i(e.n the first $art of the acti(it!, decided to sta! to, of course, get the 89 $oints in the acti(it!. B
seeing that man! had *sacrificed+ their li(es in order to sa(e ours, asked m!self, should do the sam
thing:
n all honest!, as actuall! o(er5o!ed hen the $lot tist came into the $icture. Though
disma!ed that didn0t get the $erfect score, told m!self that sacrificing a little for the benefit of th
man! ouldn0t hurt me.
And since e0re talking about moralit!, hat the se(en sur(i(ors chose to do – to actuall! sta! an
sa(e their li(es – cannot be deemed as an immoral act. The conse;uences of their decisions cannot b
told off as moral or immoral. As hat <ant had claimed, the result of one0s action is be!ond our contr
and the 5udgment of their action ill not de$end on those results.
Therefore, those se(en sur(i(ors ho chose to sa(e their on li(es and disregard the sacrifices
their classmates, hate(er their reason ma! be, did not actuall! commit a crime or a hea(! sin. Moralit
in this situation, should ha(e been something hich e should ha(e had control of, !et it as not th
case.
