LIHT BACKGROUND• Young women dangling in between; left out young women active

participation in community development which forced them to engage in other unproductive activities.

• Over 60% of population in Korogocho is comprised of youth out of whom 80% are involved in criminal activities due to extreme poverty they are living in (AIHD 2008).

• Most of them are young mothers who get children either after being raped, boyfriends most of whom are criminals are killed by police, and others got pregnant due to lack of knowledge on reproductive health.

• They engage in commercial sex work, transporting of small arms, transporting of drugs, organizing hijackings, organizing small child trafficking and selling of illicit brew.

LIHT BACKGROUND CNTS……….• After Post election violence in 2008 in collaboration with Women for

peace we collected women experiences and realized how young women contributed to the violence by keeping weapons for people.

• It is due to this background that Link the Hidden Treasure decided to reform these young women believing that they are a treasure hidden and needs to be linked to development, by bringing them together and giving them an alternative life through entrepreneurship skills.

• The group has engaged these young women in entrepreneurship activities including making of beads from recycled waste paper, Making of hand bags from recycled polythene bags, Recycling hair additions, Making of liquid, bar soap & toilet detergents, Making of door mats and table mats from waste sacks and Poultry farming.

• The group started with 15 girls which has expanded to date to 200.
