You’ve told us where you’d like to go, but here are some other things that may also interest you… Fancy spending some more time in museums, or want to enjoy a proper English high tea? London is full of exciting things just waiting for you to discover. But don’t worry, you’ll have ample free time in your tour schedule to check out more of the things that you really like – the choice is yours!
THE GLOBE THEATRE
The original Shakespeare Globe theatre whichwas built in 1599 burned down during theproduction of Henry VIII in 1613. As a three-story, open air amphitheatre, it could host over3000 spectators. The current, reconstructed,Globe is a very realistic version of the original, but now can only host less than half theamount of people. Why? Modern safetyregulations.
THE WEST END
2013 was a busy year for West End musicals, with ticket sales reaching a record 14.5 millionand making the audience of the West End thelargest English speaking audience in the world. So what’s the longest running show? Despitetechnically not being a musical, AgathaChristie’s play The Mousetrap, has been runningcontinuously since 1952 and is the longestrunning production in the world.
A ROYAL FAMILY LUNCH
Since 1956, Queen Elizabeth II and her husbandthe Duke of Edinburgh, have been hostinginformal lunch gatherings at BuckinghamPalace. These small, relaxed parties are usuallyattended by six people from various professionsand always include at least two members of theroyal family. Does this include one of Elizabeth’sfive corgis? Who knows! During her reignElizabeth has owned more than 30 corgis whichhave nearly all been descendants of her firstcorgi Susan, who was an 18th birthday present.
