London Fields. The area’s been essential to
city life since the time of Henry VIII.
Now it’s become a magnet for creative, future
minded people who are forging the future
of our capital.
London Lane is a stunning new development close
to London Fields, offering all that’s best about
modern day living. It has been cleverly designed to
provide exactly the types of distinctive, innovative,
boldly designed homes today’s Londoners are
looking for. Ranging from one bed apartments to
family homes, here is a community in harmony
with all your life stages.

Wharf, the studios of Hackney Wick or the media

E verything about London Lane has been
meticulously planned. The first thing you’ll
notice is the windows – they stretch from floor-
to-ceiling to create a bold, modern feel and make
maximum use of natural light. Note how they also
blend beautifully with the surrounding brickwork.
There are the clever little outside spaces – private
balconies, a hard landscaped courtyard with trees
and some planters.
Inside, all is cool and contemporary. The kitchens
are sleek, streamlined, with ample workspaces.
You’ll find your washing machine, dishwasher and
fridge/freezer discretely hidden, allowing a clutter
free, flowing space. There are separate electric
ovens and hobs, complete with extractor fans.
Bathrooms are tiled and fittings are boldly
designed. There’s ample storage throughout and
the open plan layout creates distinct spaces to kick
back and relax at the end of the day.

I n the 1540s, drovers grazed their sheep here
before taking them to market in London. Now,
it’s your turn to benefit from this wonderful stretch
of London greenery.
London Fields is perfect for relaxing. There’s the
famous Lido, ideal for warm summer days. You’ll
find tennis courts, a thriving cricket club, BMX
track, barbecue area, pictorial meadow and – of
course – a café. You can get involved with cycling,
triathlons and swimming clubs. Or, if that all
sounds strenuous, you can relax in the Pub On
The Park, just a short stroll from your front door.
A Green Flag winner, London Fields is justly
established as one of London’s premier open
spaces. It’s not the only parkland nearby. When
you want to ring the changes, just head for
Victoria Park, Hackney Downs, or the beautiful
Queen Elizabeth Park created as part of the
2012 Olympic legacy.

This is a part of London that’s famous for its
street markets. Established centuries ago they
are thriving more than ever today.
Columbia Market, for example, is a riot of colour
on Sundays, when all the flowers are on display.
Yet it’s a fascinating place to visit any day of the
week with its collection of indy fashion, antique
shops and homeware stores.
If you’re a serious foodie, make sure you get to
Broadway Market on a Saturday morning. There
are freshly grilled artisan burgers and intriguing
Vietnamese coffees to sample, or just soak up
the authentic aromas and atmosphere of this
gourmet paradise.
You’ll find a host of fascinating independent
shops too, including a charming, canal side
bookshop and a Burberry Factory store. There’s a
lovely shoe shop called Black Truffle – spread over
two levels – offering quirky footwear for women
and children.

If you’re a fan of craft beers, Hackney is heaven.
At The Crate Brewery you can watch your beer
being brewed before your very eyes, the ales
are accompanied by pizza and live jazz. Then
there’s Proof, street food at ground level with
a rooftop bar to boot.
A trip round Hackney restaurants is like a culinary
tour right round the world.
The Long White Cloud represents New Zealand
cuisine while Buen Ayre, as you’d expect,
is all about Argentinian beef. There’s tapas,
Vietnamese, Eastern European restaurants, curry
houses and Chinese takeaways; not to mention
traditional fish and chips.
Look hard enough and you’ll even find a good,
old fashioned English pub or two.

PAGE 14OVERVIEW OVERVIEW
Hackney has a real creative buzz, which is maybe
why it is attracting so many of London’s artistic
types today. In fact, it always has. Charlie Chaplin,
Stan Laurel and Marie Lloyd all trod the boards
at the famous Hackney Empire. Nowadays you’ll
find an energising mix of high farce and high opera
here, not to mention great Christmas pantos.
There’s more theatre to be enjoyed at the Arcola
and the Hackney Picturehouse is a trendy four-
screen cinema with restaurant attached.
Hackney is renowned for its art. It has the highest
concentration of art studio spaces in the world.
The borough has its own museum too – it’s full of
local history, has a real focus on immigration and
is a great opportunity for children to step back into
the past – dressing up, making matchboxes and
loading a Saxon ship.
The red bricked Sutton House is great for a day
out. It’s the oldest home in East London, built
for Henry VIII’s first Secretary of State and now
restored to its original décor. Make sure you check
out the kitchen.

GETTING AROUND made easy
London Lane has a fabulous location within
walking distance of so many of Hackney’s
markets, venues and eateries.
When you want to venture out, London Fields rail
station is located at the end of the road, providing
a regular service into London Liverpool Street.
Being Hackney, of course, this is just one of the
transport options open to you. There are ample
cycle lanes and a ride through the park is the
perfect way to start your morning commute.
By bike, bus or train, you’re so close to all the
places that matter in London. To the east there
are the shops and sports facilities of the 2012
legacy in Stratford, head south for the glittering
skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, while the City,
West End and South Bank are all easy to reach
when you go west.
At London Lane, you really do have the best of
London at your beck and call.
