cannot tolerate any racial

intolerance at all. It should

be a wakeup call to all of

us. None of us are born

with intolerance. But it is

something we need to

eradicate from our lives.

Even though the focus has

been on our police

departments, racial acts of

bullying start in the home

and exist in our local

schools. We can no longer

be blind to this larger

pandemic that is impacting

our children. Be kind and

understanding. Our actions

and conversations in the

home can and will be the

force that will turn the tide

towards tolerance and

diversity acceptance. We

are a multicultural city, and

we need to embrace and

welcome all cultures into

our community.

I have had several reach

out to me and our city

council concerning what we

are doing to promote

reforms in our own police

department. I want to

ensure you that we have

been very proactive as a city

and police department long

before all this came to a

head nationally. We require

all our officers to be trained

in non-lethal tactics and

have checks and balances

in place to make sure de-

escalation efforts are made

in every situation they are

faced with. Our officers

have de-escalated several

situations dealing with

domestic violence and

suicide incidents which

could have ended tragically

but were handled with

professionalism and

compassion and ended with

lives saved and non-lethal

tactics deployed. Because

we are trained in those

areas, we have also assisted

other departments in Davis

County with the same

results.

We have in place policies

that require all police

actions that demanded any

use of force to be reported

to the city council, and we

Last month I

congratulated all of you for

your resilience during this

pandemic and encouraged

everyone to stay safe, stay

home if you can, and keep

watch over your neighbors.

And I am proud of the way

you have had patience with

us as we slowly looked for

safe ways to open our

facilities and encourage a

slow return to a new

abnormal. Team sports have

started up again with self-

imposed precautions. Our

pickleball courts are open

again, along with our parks

and playgrounds. Please be

cautious when using these

facilities and stay safe.

Please continue your

diligence, and your efforts

will save lives. We will get

through this together.

However, we are now

dealing with another

pandemic-—racial inequality.

Watching what is happening

across this country and in

our own backyard should be

a rude awakening. We

review each incident. Taking

the reporting even further,

the city council and I receive

a copy of each officer’s daily

logs for our review. We

encourage our officers to be

involved in our community.

We have participated in

many drive-by birthday

wishes. Our officers have

escorted our elementary

school teachers throughout

our city to say hi to their

students and have assisted

in funeral processions at

graveside services for

members of our community.

We have a great police

department who are always

looking out for the safety of

our citizens and help make

Woods Cross an incredible

and safe place to raise our

families. Our police

department is an important

and integral part of our city,

and I want to thank them

personally for the service

they provide to us and for

making Woods Cross a great

place to live.

During these times of social change, we would like to remind the public

that we are dedicated to protecting and serving all members of our

community regardless of their faith, culture, skin color, or personal beliefs.

We support your right to stand up for your beliefs and speak out against

injustices that do exist in our world. Together we can make our

community a better and safer place for EVERYONE. We appreciate the

support for our men and women in blue and are proud to serve this great

city.

FARMERS MARKET UPDATE

The Farmers Market has been cancelled for the remainder of

the year. We look forward to opening again next summer. Please

Utah HERitage Scavenger Hunt

Get outside this summer, and have fun finding places that tell the

story of Utah women making history. The Utah HERitage Scavenger Hunt

features 15 trailblazing women who have contributed to our community.

Learn about them, find locations near you that represent their

contributions to Utah, and share your pictures of the locations to collect

cool button pins. It's not too late to get involved; just complete June's

challenges to catch up! Everyone is welcome to participate. Stop by the

Woods Cross City offices on Tuesdays to receive a free starter kit with a

lanyard, instructions, and swag. As you complete the challenges

throughout July and August, stop in again to collect your pins. More
