Madras School Of Social Work, an Autonomous Institution, accredited by NAAC and affiliated to the
University ofMadras was established in 1952 and is located in Chennai, South India.
Madras School Of Social Work was founded by Mary Clubwala Jadhavunder the auspices ofMadras
State Branch of the Indian Conference of Social Work (renamed the Indian Council of Social Welfare)
and the Guild of Service (Central). The School is run under the aegis of the Society for Social Education
and Research (SSER).
Madras School Of Social Work is a member of the Association of Schools of Social Work in India and
theAsia-PacificAssociation of Social Work Education. The School is also affiliated to the International

INTRODUCTION
Introduction of the programme.
The objective of the MSW course is to prepare the candidates for a career as a professionally trained
social worker and is aimed at developing in them skills, attitudes and values necessary for working with
people and organizations. Students graduating from this program have an excellent combination of
interpersonal and managerial skills.Ample opportunity is provided to develop professional skills.
Pattern of the Programme:
Adopting the CBCS pattern, the MSW program is a field based program extending over 4 semesters
(two years) and consists of theory course/papers (Core, Electives) and field practicum, Research
project, Surumer Placement, Block placement and study tour.
The course is offered with three major specializations in the areas of Human Resource Management,
Community Development and Medical & Psychiatric Social Work. The first year of the course will be
focusing on Social Work theories and methods and during the second year an intensive specialization
based training will be provided.
Specializations
Community Development (CD): This specialization equips students to work with communities and
organizations and skills in identifying needs of rural and urban communities. Employment
opportunities are available with Government departments, National and International NGOS, UN
Organizations and in the Corporate Sector.
Medical & Psychiatric Social Work (MPSW): This specialization helps students understand the
physical and mental health needs of individuals and families as well as communities. Students
completing this specialization can gain employment in hospitals, mental health centres, individual and
family counselling centres, community health NGOs, UN Organizations and research institutions.
Human Resource Management (HRM): This specialization trains students to become sensitive and
competent human resource managers in the Corporate sector. Employment opportunities are available
in the HR departments of all types of the corporate sector and National and International NGO's.Any
change in specializations will not be permitted after admission.
Eligibility Criteria
Graduate in any discipline, of a minimum 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3)
pattern or any other pattern (includPing professional courses) that fulfills the mandatory
requirements of 15 years full-time formal education from a recognized University and approved by
the University ofMadras will be eligible for applying to the course

M.Phil in Social Work Full Time only
Introduction of the Programme:
The Master of Philosophy for Social Work Programme offered by MSSW on full-time basis seeks to
prepare candidates for careers in research or academics. The course offers a judicious blend of
theoretical inputs, field exposure and research work to develop the research aptitude and skills of the
candidates. The programme is of two-semester duration
Eligibility Criteria:
All candidates should have passed two year P.G.Degree course after three year Degree course 1.
and Higher Secondary of 12 years duration or Pre-University under 11 year SSLC + 1 year or 10+2
Pattern. Candidates who have passed the P.G. Degree Examination with less than 17 years of total
duration of the course are not eligible for admission to M.Phil. Degree course.
2. The Minimum marks for Full-time M.Phil Degree course shall be 50% for the candidates who
have qualified for the Master's Degree in Social Work prior to 01-01-1991 and 55% for the
candidates who have qualified for the Master's Degree in Social Work on or after 01-01-1991.
There is no provision for rounding off of 54.5 % and above marks to 55%. For candidates
belonging to SC/ST community and Disabled (Physically and Visually challenged) candidates,
who have qualified for a Master's Degree in Social Work on or after 01-01-1991, a concession of
5% of mark, will be given in the minimum eligibility marks prescribed. The admission may be
made on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidates in qualifying examination and marks
scored in the Entrance Test.
3. In the case of candidates of University of Madras including those from autonomous college of
this University, both Internal and External marks will be taken into account.
B) In the case of candidates who have obtained their UG/PG Degree from other Universities, the
marks secured by them in the External Examination plus Entrance Test marks will be taken into
consideration to arrive at the merit list.
4. Eligibility certificate should be obtained from the Registrar of University of Madras for
admission in respect of the candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from other
Board/Universities. The admission will be made purely on merit, subject to reservation rules of
the Government ofTamil Nadu.

RESEARCH PROGRAMMES
5. Candidates from States other than Tamil Nadu shall be considered under General Turn except
for SC and ST candidates.
Selection Procedure
The applicants are required to undertake the entrance test and attend the interview on the date
specified in the Prospectus.
The entrance examination may be conducted on the following lines:
a. The Entrance Test will be held after the publication of PG results
b. The Entrance Test will be conducted for a maximum of 50 marks for duration of90
minutes.
c. The question paper will comprise of two parts, namely, Part-A: Research
Methodology and Statistics and Part-B:Research Proposal. Part-A will consist of
six questions out ofwhich five are to be answered in about 400 words each(6x5=30
marks). Part-B will consist of one question to be answered in about 1200 words
(20xl=20 marks)
d. The entrance test will be held in the College.
e. The College willdesign the question paper for the entrance examination and value
the same.
f. AU applicants are required to bring their original certificates for verification, on
the date of entrance examination.

Introduction of the Programme
Candidates who wish to pursue their doctoral research work in the Social Work Department of the
College may apply on full-time (with or without fellowship) or Part-time (teacher or non-teacher,
internal or external) basis. The Ph.D (Social Work) programme in MSSW is a very challenging and
rewarding research experience. Regularity and Scholarly rigour are the primary attributes expected
from scholars.
Eligibility Criteria:
• The candidate should have obtained a Master's Degree with not less than Second Class or
equivalent grade. In the case of Examinations where classification does not exist, a
minimum 50% marks is needed in the qualifying examination.
• Candidates should submit their application in the concerned Department on or before 2nd
January, 1st April, 1st July and 1st October. Registration for Ph.D. may be done throughout the
year
• PrescribedApplication forms are available at the University ofMadras.
• A candidate can register on full time, part-time (internal) or part-time (external) basis.
• All admissions will be according to Uuiversity ofMadras regulations.
Procedure
i) Duly filled in application forms with all necessary enclosures should be sent to the Principal of
the college on or before 2""January, I"April, 1''July and !"October of every year.
i) Applicants will have to write an entrance exam and attend an interview.
ii) All applicants are required to bring their original certificates for verification, on the date of
the entrance examination.
General
Full time Research Scholars are expected to sign attendance register every day and part time twice a
month. They are expected to take classes, organize Seminars I workshop and publish papers. They are
expected to participate in research projects.

Introduction of the Programme:
The three year Bachelor's program in social work is an intensive course with theory and field practice.
The uniqueness of this program is that the students are exposed to intensive experimental learning and
this gives an edge over other under-graduate courses. The transition from a student to a professional is
carefully monitored by a group of qualified and experienced faculty. The main objective of the course is
to impart education and training in professional social work and enhance the understanding of social
issues through interdisciplinary perspective.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates for admission are required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by
the Government of Tamil Nadu (or) an examination accepted as equivalent thereofby the syndicate, of
the University ofMadras at Madras School of Social Work.
Pattern of the programme:
The course content has core subjects and allied subjects, which includes basic concepts of social work,
Methods of social work, Sociology, Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Economics and
Political system, Social Development and Social Work, Communication, Social Work Research, Health
Care, Care of Elderly, Legal systems in India, Human Rights, Management of organization, Women
Development issues and concerns. Field practicum is an integral part of the course which consists oflab
sessions, observation visits, group projects, rural camp and concurrent field work, that enable the
students to understand the theory learnt and the reality of the society. Project report is another
important feature of this programme. Each student is expected to do one simple research based on
his/her interested area, with the supervision and guidance of experienced faculty.The course covers soft
skills also. The entire course moulds the overall personality of the students.
Scope of the Programme:
The knowledge and practical experience gained through the theory papers and allied papers will enable
the graduates to move easily into other Post graduate courses like MSW, Public Administration,
Development Management, Human Resource Management, Economics, Politics and Journalism and
helps them to prepare for all competitive exams. Employment opportunities are in great demand in
welfare and corporate settings for this course.

Introduction of the Programme:
The Department of Counselling Psychology was introduced in the academic year 2002 -2003.It offers a
two year M.Sc. program in Counselling Psychology. The program is offered to graduate students who
have done a paper or papers related to Psychology. The Department introduced B.Sc. in Psychology
from the academic year 2012-2013 and is affiliated to the University of Madras. The Undergraduate
course is a three year full time programme. Each academic year shall be divided into two semesters. The
first academic year shall comprise the fust and second semesters; the second academic year the third and
fourth semesters and the third academic year the fifth and sixth semesters respectively.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates for admission to the fust year of the Degree ofBachelor of Science courses shall be required
to have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations (Academic or Vocational Stream) conducted by the
Government of Tamil Nadu or an Ex amination accepted as equivalent thereof by the Syndicate of the
University ofMadras.
Pattern ofthe Programme:
The programme will ensure that students are exposed to various fields in Psychology such as Basic
Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, Biological
Psychology, Statistics in Psychology, Counselling Psychology Experimental Psychology and
Psychological Testing. Field visits, projects and hands on experience will form an important component
of the course. Students will be given a strong foundation in both Theory and Practicum components
throughout the three year Undergraduate programme. They will learn about research methods, explore
some of the most famous experiments in psychology, and discover ideas for their own research projects.
Scope of the Programme
The undergraduate degree will be an excellent preparation for a Post graduate course in the different
fields of Psychology such as Counselling, Clinical, Organizational, or in related fields such as
Criminology, Human Resource Management, Social Work and so on. The students will be exposed to
skills in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data; their experience with statistics and experimental
research designs will also be sharpened.
Admission will be open for male and female candidates.

B.Sc. PSYCHOLOGY

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK (MSW
Introduction ofthe Programme
Specialization in Counselling Psychology equips the students with knowledge, imparts right attitudes
and trains them in skills that are necessary for assessing the problems of individuals and groups and to
seek solutions for the same through Counselling Psychology. M.Sc. Course in Counselling Psychology
is a Two-year Full-Time Choice-Based Semester Programme and is offered to graduate students who
have taken a subject or paper or papers related to Psychology at the under-graduate level. The students
are trained to administer various Psychological tests. The students learn to use the skills acquired
through participation in Projects , Workshops and Seminars. Students are encouraged to present papers
at conferences and publish research papers in reputed national and international journals.
Eligibility Criteria:
A student who has passed B.A./ B.Sc. Psychology Degree Examination, or any of the following degree,
Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), B.A. Sociology, B.Sc. Home Science or Human Development or Child
Development, B.A. Philosophy, B.Ed. or any other related subjects, with Psychology paper I papers
either from the Madras University or from any other University, accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent
Pattern ofthe Programme:
The course includes a spectrum of self-developmental skills and thus the papers offered are application-
oriented and will train students in the skills required to become experts. The uniqueness of this course is
that the students will be exposed to learning through field experience, internship and will be equipped
with job-related social and technical skills; Counselling Theory and Skills, Counselling Children with
Special Needs, Advanced Statistics in Behavioural Sciences ,Psychological Assessment, Case Analysis
Praxis of Counselling, Health Management and Psychological Well being, Corporate Counselling and
Behaviour Modification. Guest Lectures, Workshops, Seminars and Field visits are held on a regular
basis. Various curricular activities of the department will keep the students abreast of the latest
developments in the field ofPsychology
Scope of the Programme :
The course will prepare the students to launch themselves in expanding professional world as
Psychologists, Counselors. Therapists, Consultants, Resource Persons, Faculty Members, Facilitators
and Instructors.

M.Sc. COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY
Introduction ofthe Programme:
The P.O. Department ofHuman Resource Management introduced in the year 2005 offers an intensive
two-year program, aimed at making future HR leaders by preparing a global talent engine, capable of
bringing success in any business environment. With teaching methodology at par with global
perspective, to meet challenges of the competitive business environment, students are imbibed with
holistic personality skills to enhance their employability. To realize these objectives, the department,
over the years, has undertaken a major restructuring of its curriculum in consonance with the mission of
the Institute.
Eligibility Criteria:
A Bachelor's Degree with 55% aggregate in any discipline from University ofMadras or from any other
University accepted by the Syndicate as eqnivalent is eligible for admission to this course.
Pattern of the Programme:
The course has been well structured across the four semesters to ensure the students are trained to be
well rounded professionals who can achieve new heights in Human Resource Management and set
their own standards of performance in the industry. A platter of teaching methods is adopted besides
classroom lectures, which includes group discussions, seminars, dip stick studies, role-plays with
audio-visual aids, skill labs and other simulation based training methods. A committed faculty base,
familiar with the system, having sharp classroom delivery is the strength of the Department. Their
involvement in industry driven projects and Consultancy is manifest in the classroom teachings.
Excellent student-faculty ratio, make personal learning highly effective. The Industry Institute
Interface Progranune aims to broaden the students' perspective by providing an exposure to
organizational environment thereby assisting them to relate HR Management theory to practice. The
department also exposes the students to interact with Industry Experts through Guest Lectures,

Scope of the course:
Human resource is undoubtedly the key resource in an organization, the easiest and the most difficult
to manage. Human Resource Management is not just limited to manage and optimally exploit human
intellect. It also focuses on managing physical and emotional capital of employees. Considering the
intricacies involved, the scope of HRM is widening with every passing day. Keeping in mind the
demands of the industry, this course is designed to create HR Specialists to develop and manage
harmonious relationships at workplace and to strike a balance between organizational goals and
individual goal.

M.A HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Introduction of the Programme:
The Post Graduate Programme in Human Resource and Organization Development was introduced in
the year 2011 to satisfy the industry's need for qualified OD professionals. This two-year program will
explore all facets of human resource management and also trains students to initiate and manage a
positive change in organizations.
Eligibility Criteria:
A Bachelor's Degree with 55% aggregate in any discipline from University of Madras or from any
other University accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent is eligible for admission to this course.
Pattern of the Programme:
• 5 theory papers every semester
• Lab sessions to trains students m OD skills to develop, monitor and evaluate their
organizational effectiveness and performance
• Internships and project work spread across four semesters which give a first hand experience to
diagnose organizational problems and propose solutions.
• Interactions with industry experts through guest lectures, workshops and panel discussions.
• Educational visits to organizations for exposure on organizational practices
Scope ofthe Programme:
The field of Organization Development has been developing over the past four decades and is now an
established profession. On completion of this course students will have the foundation upon which
they learn and apply the most critical skills and competencies necessary for this growing profession.
This program imparts knowledge and skills that will prepare students to take on diagnosis of
organizational problems, design solutions and to play key roles in strategic change management.

M.A HUMAN RESOURCE ANDORGANISATION DEVELOPMENT
MANAGEMENT
Introduction of the Programme:
The Post Graduate Programme in Development Management was introduced in the year 2011.
Eligibility Criteria:
The course is open for graduates from any discipline. The candidate should have undergone (10+2+3)
pattern in any recognized University in India or abroad. The age limit is 40 years. Mid-way
Professionals, Women and Tribes are encouraged to apply.
Pattern of the Programme:
o It is an Interdisciplinary course which includes Social work, Economics, the Project
Management, Sociology and Organizational Behaviour.
• 5 theory papers (Core & Elective) in every semester.
Field work Practicum in Corporate Sectors, International Organisations, State & Central
Government projects in all the Semesters.

Scope ofthe Programme:
It is a value added, market driven and employment oriented course. o
• It is structured to address the specific management development needs of CSR, NGO, UN
bodies, Government development projects and autonomous bodies.
• The course aims to develop the management competencies and analytical capabilities of the
new generation of development managers to consider the complexities in development.
• The emerging development professionals will be effective and efficient in creating an
environment and Service delivery system, which is essential for accelerating development
in the grass root level and taking care of the needs, problems of the underprivileged and the
downtrodden.
• MSSW placement cell does facilitate campus interview for the students. Six of the first batch
students were placed at the Department ofRural Development, Government ofTarnil Nadu for
their field Internship & two students are placed at SOS Children Villages.

M.A DEVELOPMENT
Introduction of the Programme
The Department of Counselling Psychology was introduced in the academic year 2002 -2003.Itoffers a
two year M.Sc. program in Counselling Psychology and now also proposes to offer aM. Phil course in
Psychology.An intensive one-year M. Phil at the Department of Counselling Psychology, is designed to
provide the candidates a sound knowledge in the field of Counselling Psychology after their post-
graduation. The course is designed for two semesters. Upon completion of the course, participants
should be competent in areas such as research, test construction and counselling.
Eligibility Criteria:
A Master's Degree in Psychology from the University of Madras or any other University accepted by
the Syndicate as equivalent thereto are eligible to apply, provided that those who have qualified for the
Master's degree prior to 1st January 1991 must have secured a minimum of 50 percent of marks and
those who have qualified for the master's degree on or after 1st January 1991 must have secured a
minimum of 55 percent of marks in their Post graduation Degree. For SC I ST and Physically
handicapped and visually challenged candidates who have qualified on or after 1st January 1991 a
concession of5 percent of marks shall be given in the minimum eligibility marks.
Pattern of the Programme:
The duration of the course is one academic year consisting of two semesters. The course is a
combination of lectures, seminars and research. The main objective is to provide a comprehensive
training in the theory and practice in the fields such as Research, Test Construction and Counselling.
Scope of the Programme
After the completion of the Degree, the research student should be able to pursue a Doctoral
Programme, Conduct Training Programmes, serve as Psychological Counsellor, work in the area of
assessment and research in organizations and take to teaching profession in academic institutions.

M.PHIL IN PSYCHOLOGY
DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RESOURCE AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
Introduction of the Programme:
The Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations is a 2 year
programme divided into 4 semesters of6 months each.The Curriculum focuses on gaining Professional
Knowledge and to accentuate the development of specialized skills.It fosters attitudes essential for the
student to grow into competent managers and responsible leaders.It emphasizes on the conceptual and
analytical approach towards problem solving which gives the students an insight into the business
environment.
Eligibility Criteria:
• A Bachelors degree with 55% aggregate in any discipline from University of Madras or from
any other University accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent is eligible for admission to this
course.
• Employed Persons, Fresh Graduates and Candidates currently pursuing their Post Graduation
Programme are also eligible to apply for this course.
Pattern of the Programme:
• The course imparts a thorough knowledge of Human Resource Management and industrial
Relations through classroom sessions facilitated by experienced faculty, Industry experts,
Research Project and Practical Experience/ Field Exposure.
• Develops in the students a mature personality, high professional competence and human
relations skills
• Classes are held on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM to
enable working professionals, self employed people and Students pursuing their Masters and
who are aspiring to become HR specialists to gain an expertise in HRM alongside.
Scope ofthe Programme:
For businesses today, managing human resources on a continuous basis is crucial in order to improve
individnal, group and organizational effectiveness and to meet the growing expectations of the
employees. It is important to manage human resources as they help in the prosperity and progress
through the committed and creative efforts and competencies of their human resources. A healthy
environment can occur only when the working relationships between all the employees are established,
leading to an overall development of every individual employee as well as the organization on a whole.
Thus HRM acts as a fuel for the smooth functioning of an organization and its overall development and
progress.

(2 years - Evening Programme)
Introduction of the Programme:
The Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations is a 2 year program
divided into 4 semesters of 6 months each. The program has been in existence since 1978.The
curriculum focuses on imparting high professional knowledge and accentuates development of
specialized and effective skills and fosters attitudes essential for the students to grow into competent
managers and responsible leaders.
Eligibility Criteria
A bachelor degree with 50% aggregate in any discipline from the University of Madras or any other
University is eligible for admission to the course.As the program is primarily intended to those already
employed, Preference in admission will be given to applicants presently working in Personnel, HRD
Administration, Industrial Relations, Training and Development and allied functions. Fresh
GraduatesOnly few seats are available for fresh graduates. Such persons should have high academic
and extra curricular achievements. Fresh Graduates sponsored by a company of repute will be given
preference in admission, subject to other rules regarding admission.
Pattern of the Programme:

Scope of the Programme:
The course is meant for HR professional working in the field to upgrade their knowledge with the
latest techniques and practices. The course helps the students to move up the ladder in their
organization.

Library
The College has a well-stocked library with around 15000 books and several journals and periodicals.
The Library is fully computerized and renders bar-coded services. Implementing the Selective
Dissemination oflnformation system, the library offers excellent support to stodents for preparing their
assignments and project reports.
Computer Centre
The College has a full fledged computer centre with multimedia computers, internet, and printer
facilities. Subject to the rules for each course, students can make use of the centre for e-mail, internet
browsing, word processing, creating presentations and data analysis. Students are also given basic
orientation in use of computers and internet.
Audio-Visual
The College is fully equipped with audio-visual equipment to provide multi media learning experience.
Each Department is equipped with Over Head Projectors and Computers.
Skill Development
Apart from regular academic classes, skill development sessions, are conducted using external internal
training experts in accordance with their specific requirements. Self development, Interpersonal
Effectiveness, Life Skills as well as specific professional skills are imparted through special training
programmes.
Teaching Methods
The Programmes of the College are designed to prepare young men and women for future career in their
respective disciplines. Hence, several teaching methods are used besides lectures, such as group
discussions, seminars, role play with audiovisual aids, skill labs and simulations.
Campus Recruitment
Campus recruitment is facilitated by the College for job placement of students. The students are also
trained to face interviews. Participation in the campus interviews will be restricted to those students
who have been regular in College and field work and who have participated actively in the activities of
the College and have secured a pass in their Internal and External examinations in all the semesters.

NFRASTRCTURE AND STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Students' Association
All students are members of the Students' Association. The Association arranges a variety of
programmes like lectures, debates, sports, games, picnics, fund raising campaigns and social service
projects. In addition, each department has department forums to organize co-curricular activities on
self supporting basis.
Students may carry on any extra-curricular activity, within the college premises ouly with the
permission of the Principal or the Faculty Advisornominated by the Principal. Such activity should be
carried out only during the time allotted for the same.
Scholarships
In addition to government scholarships, the Alumni Association of the College also extends financial
support for education to a few deserving students on a case to case basis.
Vehicle Parking
Two wheelers of students are permitted to be parked inside the Campus.

Separate hostel accommodation is available only for men and women Post Graduate students on frrst
come first served basis. Mostly students are accommodated two/three in a room, with common
facilities in each floor .Admissions are restricted to those outstation students who have local guardians
willing to stand guarantee and accommodate them in exceptional circumstances/occasions beyond the
control of theAdministration.
Admissions are based on the applications available in the office of the Hostel Warden. The student
seeking hostel accommodation has to provide a joint undertaking along with the parent/guardian/local
guardian concerned with respect to the terms and conditions governing their conduct in the premises of
the hostel as an inmate.
All facilities externally sourced are restrictively provided depending on the circumstances prevalent.
All the charges are subject to revision and further levy of additional charges for any facility provided
including scarcity of ground water or revision in Metro water charges or any other additional liability in
connection with the Hostel accommodation.The existing fee structure is as follows:
a) Room Rent:
Room rent ofRs.l2, 000/- (Rupees twelve thousand only) per academic session shall be payable at
the time of admission.
b) MessDeposit:
All inmates of the Hostel shall be members of the Hostel Mess. Only vegetarian food shall be served.
Hostel Mess operation is outsourced and monthly mess bill as per the agreed per day rate with the
Mess Contractor shall be recovered from the Mess Deposit of Rs.30,000/- on completion of a
calendar month ofMess operation or part thereof. The Mess Deposit ofRs.30, 000/- can be made, in
two installments. The first installment ofRs.20,000/- shall be paid along with the room rent at the
time of admission and the balance Rs.l0,000/- shall be remitted to the ICICI Bank by December at
the beginning of the second semester.
(c) CautionDeposit:
Each student shall remit Rs.S, 000/- (Rupees five thousand only) as Caution Deposit along with the
room rent and Mess Deposit and this amount shall be settled only after all other hostel dues are
cleared and subject to recovery of cost of damages, if any, caused to the Hostel, which will be
assessed only after the vacation of the Hostel by the inmates. No request for early refund or

adjustment of Mess Deposit or Caution Deposit will be entertained before settling these dues after
vacation.
(d) Othercharges:
Inaddition to the Mess Bill, monthly charges on establishment amounting to Rs.300/- (Rupees three
hundred only) shall be payable. Electricity consumption in each room is metered and the rate as
levied by TNEB shall be collected equally from the occupant/(s) along with monthly Mess Bill.
Mineral water supply for Hostel is arranged on cost sharing basis."

a. Physical Fitness
The academic programmes place equal emphasis on classroom work, field work and research
demanding the best in each candidate. Hence, it is necessary that the candidates admitted should
maintain a high standard of physical and mental competence.
b. Behavior and conduct
Exemplary conduct is imperative for all students. Conditions stated in the prospectus and application
forms will be binding on students and parents/guardians, at all times.
Those who indulge in ragging will be summarily expelled and may also be prosecuted as per law.
c. Attendance and Regularity
Minimum 75% attendance is compulsory for class room instructions and 100% for practical I
fieldwork

2. Every student must attend College regularly and punctually and perform satisfactory
throughout the course
3. Absence from class for one hour will be treated as absence for half a day
4. No student shall be absent on the re-opening day and closing day of a semester
5. Attendance shortage will entail punitive action including denial of permission to write
Semester Examinations.
d. Discipline
1. Smoking, ConsumingAlcoholic Drinks and Narcotic Drugs are strictly prohibited.
2. Any unruly conduct by a student either in the class or in the premises will invite stern
disciplinary action, which may include dismissal.
3. The College reserves the right to dismiss at any time, a student whose conduct is considered
unsatisfactory for any reason.
4. Failure to meet financial obligations may also lead to dismissal of a student.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
e. Course Fees
Fees for the first semester as indicated in Fee structure slip will be paid at the time of admission and the
balance in the second semester of the year within 30 days of commencement of the semester. Fees not
paid within the stipulated time will be accepted only with fine at the rate of Re.l/- per day up to 30
working days.
After the expiry of 30 days, the defaulter's name will be removed from the roll ad he/she will be
readmitted only on payment of arrears, fme up to the date of payment and re-admission fee ofRs.25/-
providedhis/herrecord of work and conduct are otherwise satisfactory.
Fees should be remitted through bank challans available in the college: for MSW (Aided) course in
Indian Bank, No.5, First Street, Sait Colony, Egmore, Chennai 600008 and for all other courses in
ICICIBank, New No.20 (OldNO.l21) Egmore HighRoad, Chennai 600008.
Fees once paid will not be refunded for any reason whatsoever.
Actual expenses towards trips for field work, observation visits, rural camps, study tour, preparation of
research report, will be met directly by the students concerned. Payment to Agencies for field work
training should also be borne by the students availing such training.
f. Shift System
With effect from academic year 2007-2008, the University has introduced shift systems in all its private
colleges. MSW (aided), M.Phil and PhD in Social Work Programmes come under Shift-1(timings: 8.00
am to 1.00 pm) and the other UG and PG SelfFinanced Programmes come under Shift
pmto6.30pm)

Application forms may be obtained either in person or by post or downloaded from the college website
(www.mssw.in). The filled in online forms should be submitted at the college in person or by post with

Admission
i) Admission will be based on merit, taking into account marks secured in Degree Course,
Entrance Test and Interview. The weight-age for each component is as follows: Degree Marks
100, Entrance Exam 50 and Interview 10. Co=unity Quota allotments will be followed as
per TN Govt. Rules.
Admission will be provisional until Bachelor's Degree Certificate and final mark lists are
produced and is also subject to University's approval. Candidates failing to produce pass
certificate and marks certificate within the stipulated time, cannot retain the seat allotted to
them.

iii) Admission is subject to verification of marks certificates by the Director of Government
Examinations and if the mark certificates are found to be false, admission is liable for
cancellation besides criminal action being taken.
iv) Students may opt for any one of the specialization available. No change in the specialization
will be permitted after admission.
v) Students whose knowledge of English or Tamil requires toning up will be notified soon after
admission and it will be the obligatory for them to arrange tuition in these subjects at their own
cost.
There is no ban in admitting Transgender and admission will not be denied based on their sex
identity.

and no other co=unication channels shall be followed.
