• Sheet metal workers cut, shape and assemble sheet metal to make parts using hand and machine tools (including mallets, thumbwheels, riveting guns and templates) according to engineering drawings.
• They make adjustments on primary parts, assemble them into subassemblies and then perform measurement checks.
• Sheet metal working is a physical job that requires employees to wear personal protective equipment for handling tools.
• The heaviest gauge parts are handled using a block and tackle.
• You would mostly be required to work on your own but bear in mind that the quality of your work has a major impact on the work of other people, such as welders, during the subsequent assembly process. The job involves normal work hours or shifts (either straight days or nights, or morning, afternoon and night shifts).
• You will also contribute to cost reduction and quality improvement efforts.
