Four Club Meeting Rule! 4-Hers are REQUIRED to attend at least four,
regular 4-H meetings in a year in order to
participate in county and/or state fair. Members are
welcome to attend the 4-H meeting of any club
throughout the year if you can not make it to your
own.

Camp Wild Save the Date: CAMP WILD June 11-13, 2018
Take a ride on the "WILD” side and mark your calendars to attend Camp Wild, June 11-13, 2018 at Camp Clover Woods near Madrid, Iowa. Camp Wild is offered for youth completing grades 5, 6, and 7 in Spring 2018.
Experience adventure and excitement during three days filled with 4-H camp traditions and favorite activities, including nature hikes, challenge course, creek walk, rock wall, archery, swimming, camp songs, crafts, and campfires. Bring a friend with you, and make new ones while you are there too!
Camp will run from Monday, June 11 at 11 a.m. until our closing ceremony, starting at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13.
Registration will open online starting March 1st, please visit http://bit.ly/campwild18. If you do not have access to the internet, the Extension office is happy to assist you in this process. Registration deadline is May 15, 2018. Register before May 1, 2018 to secure your spot, and receive our $200 registration early bird price. Registration costs $220 after May 1 and before May 15. No registrations will be accepted after May 15, 2018.
Make sure to check with the Extension office, as there may be financial assistance for 4-H members attending camp! Scholarships are also available from the Iowa 4-H Foundation, with an April 25th deadline for application. Visit www.iowa4hfoundation.com for information or to apply.
Ever thought about being a camp counselor? We encourage any youth 16 years old and older to apply for a camp counselor position. There is no registration cost for this position. Counselor applications are available at the Extension office, on our website or can be e-mailed.
Animal Science Round Up
Take 4-H livestock to the next level! 4-H youth wanting
to attend the 4-H Animal Science Roundup must submit
an application and be selected. 20 youth will be
selected in each of the following species: Beef, Horse,
Meat Goat, Poultry, Sheep, and Swine. Roundup is held
during the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, June 26-28 on
the ISU Campus. This is a fun, hands-on and thrilling
event!
Application deadline is March 15 with ALL
applicants being notified by April 1. A short

Shooting Sports Instructor Recertification Begins in 2018
The National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee has strongly recommended that all 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors
recertify to maintain their status as an approved 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors. Leaders trained in 2015 or earli-
er will be required to attend a session in 2018. Recertification sessions will be offered for all SESS disciplines on a
3-year rotating basis with every discipline offered at least every year. Leaders Trained in 2015 or earlier will be
required to attend a session in 2018.

Annual Volunteer Training
All volunteers in their second year or service or beyond are required to complete continuing education to support
their 4-H Youth Development volunteer work. A face-to-face session was offered in November. Volunteers who
missed the in-person training can complete the required training in a web-based format in 4-H Online. This training
must be completed by July 1, 2018 to retain your volunteer status. To
complete the training:
Step 1: Access the supporting resources and documents on the 4-H website under Volunteer
Resources, Annual Training Resources (http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/volunteerresources). The
resources for this year’s annual leader training support the learning in the training and can be used in your work with youth.
Review the resources on the 4-H Volunteer Resources webpage prior to, or following the online training. It may be beneficial
to print these resources for use in your work with the youth and also as a resource to share with the youth.
Step 2: Access the online annual training of “4-H Builds Resilience” via 4H Online, link below as well as step by step
instructions. Open a web browser (use Firefox, Safari, or Chrome) and type in: iowa.4honline.com
Login to 4H Online using your family email address and login information. Click “Continue to Family.” Find your name and click
“Edit” on right side by your name. On the top of the page click on the “trainings” option. Click the “Sign up for a training”
option on the upper right side of screen. View the trainings listed and click “Sign up” next to the annual training online version
“2017-18 Leader Training (4-H Builds Resilience).” Click “Take the Course” to get started.
Recertification Schedule for Trainings:
Morning Session: Discipline 1, 8:30 – 1:30 pm
(Lunch Session: Required by all participants 12-1:30 pm)
Afternoon Session: Discipline 2, 12 Noon – 5:30 pm
Cost - $25 for each Discipline. $15 for new cap option.

State 4-H Summer Livestock Internships Available The state 4-H office is hiring two summer interns for 4-H Livestock. One to help with general summer events including the Iowa State Fair and the second focusing on State Fair entries and the Fair Entry program. Experience Agronomy! Join the ISU Agronomy Club for hands-on activities centered around the three pillars of sustainability in agronomy covering the economics, social and environmental aspects of sustainability, along with a session on technology in agronomy. Registration includes a t-shirt and lunch. Come learn about agronomy at a basic level while developing a passion for agriculture and increasing your agricultural literacy. Join us April 7th from 8 am until 1pm at Agronomy Hall on the Iowa State campus. Cost is $5 per person and $10 for groups of 5 or more. Swine Identification & Sheep/Goat Weigh-In Information Swine Identification day and weigh-in will take place Saturday, April 14th from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm at the
Union County Fairgrounds. All swine will be identified and carcass hogs will be weighed-in. Please pick up your ear tags and ID sheets prior to weigh-in. We ask that swine families have ear tags already placed in the animals ear prior to arrival. Green USDA tags are $1 each and swine being nominated for the Iowa State Fair must have a DNA tag, each costing $8. All hogs must be ear notched prior to the identification/weigh-in date.
Sheep/Goat weigh-in will take place Saturday, April 14th from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Union County Fairgrounds. We would appreciate families already having ear tags placed in the animals ear and ID sheets started prior to weigh-in. We will have additional ear tags and ID sheets available at weigh-in for your convenience. Green USDA tags are $1 each. Those sheep and goats needing retinal scanned for the Iowa State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben will also be charged an additional $5 per head.
