Winter Warm Up Kicks Off 2013! On Saturday, February 9, thirty five

ACE members and their guests gath-

ered for the annual Winter Warm Up

offseason event at the Six Flags Over

Georgia employee training center.

Regional Rep Josh Herrington kicked

off the festivities with a quick presen-

tation of his newest addition to the

ACE family, his son, Parker.

After a brief introduction and

photographic proof of this little

3 month old enjoying a quick

ride on X2, the real fun began.

Due to several scheduling

conflicts with a few of the

regional parks, Josh took over

the show and gave all the latest

details on the progression of

their “New For 2013” additions.

Updates on Lake Winnie’s new

waterpark “Soak Ya!” were

followed by a quick update of

the Dinosaur’s Alive! addition at

Carowinds. Wild Adventures sent over

a video detailing all of their new things

for 2013 including Tail Spin, the parks

new Mega Disk-O and Wacky

Wheels, a new family attraction. They

also sent over a few goodies for

attendees as well as two sets of two 1

-day admission tickets that were given

away to a few quick witted trivia

contest winners!

Next up was something touted as a

“surprise presentation” on the event

flyer. As it turns out, that surprise

presentation was about Six Flags

Fiesta Texas’s new addition, Iron

Rattler. The bigger surprise came

once the presentation was over as our

good friends at Six Flags Fiesta

Texas sent over goodies in the form

of a free one day admission ticket so

everyone could come out and ride the

coaster once it opened! After a short

intermission, Dollywood’s own Pete

Owens was up. He started his presen-

tation with the latest on what’s new at

Dollywood for 2013 and then jumped

right into talking about Dollywood’s

Splash Country’s new addition, River

Rush. After the Splash Country

presentation was over, attendees

were given River Rush beach towels

as well as Dollywood keychains and

stress balls. Once the goodies were

handed out, Pete went on to talk

about sister park Silver Dollar City

and their new attraction, Outlaw Run

and well as the latest with the Nation-

al Roller Coaster Museum and Ar-

chives.

By this time, everyone’s breakfast had

worn off so we broke for lunch from

that famous Atlanta icon, The Varsity.

After hearing “What’ll Ya Have” for the

last time, we got set for the final

presentation of the day from Six Flags

Over Georgia. Josh introduced the

parks new public relations manager,

Emily Murray, and she talked about all

the good things happening at the Six

Flags Atlanta properties, including

Typhoon Twister at White Water and

SkyScreamer at Six Flags Over

Georgia.

Thankfully the powers that be granted

attendees a break from the cold,

dreary, winter weather that day

since the last thing on our

schedule was a Six Flags Over

Georgia offseason park tour.

After stopping by the Sky-

Screamer construction site,

everyone ventured into the

back parking lot where the

SkyScreamer staging area

was. Everyone was able to

freely roam around and get

plenty of photos of the massive

tower sections that were as-

sembled and the Six Flags

globe that will sit at the very top. After

a final group shot, we called it a day

and everyone headed home anxiously

awaiting the opening of our regional

parks and the chance to get that first

roller coaster ride of the season!

Thanks to everyone who attended

and to the parks that provided items

for attendees. Special thanks to the

Six Flags Over Georgia team for

hosting us for another year!

Opening day is getting close folks and you know what that means… Coaster season is about to kick into full speed ahead mode! You’d better get those weekend chores completed soon since every weekend from now until closing will be occupied with theme park something or another. Wild Adventures and Six Flags Over Georgia kick off opening weekend on March 16. Dollywood follows suit the next weekend on March 23 and Carowinds the next weekend on March 29. Everyone’s favorite traditional amusement park, Lake Winnie, rounds out the “Fab Five” swinging open their gates on April 13. Check their websites for hours of operation. If you haven’t visited one of these parks lately, make it a point to this year. Better yet, visit the park when we’re having a regional event there and let them know how much you appreciate them doing what they do for us! The relationship between ACE and our parks is a strong, proud, one and it will only get better with time. Speaking of events, we’ve announced our annual Spring Fling at Six Flags Over Georgia will happen on May 4 and just like last year, you can expect the park to go all out for us! ERT, walk back tours, great food and FRIED PIES have become a staple thing for this event and they aren’t going anywhere! Check out the event flyer in this issue if you’d like to attend. We’ve also announced that our Carolina Coaster Classic (C3) event at Carowinds will be making a return this year on September 21. And if you’ve checked out their calendar, you’ve noticed that they will be in SCarowinds mode at that time. I can only imagine what horrific goodies will pop up at this event. Join us for a spooktacular time… if you dare! See you on the midways!

Thanks to Emily Murray (Six Flags Over Georgia) & all the others that help make the Southeast Region one of the best! All photos and stories by Josh Herrington unless otherwise noted.

Thank You!
