Why these renewable sources?
• Wave energy because my house is built in the south hampton and its close to the water.
• Solar panels because there could be plenty of sunshine most of the time.
• Wind Power- closer to the water so there could be a lot of winds. Some maybe strong some may not.
Solar Panels• Energy from the sun that is converted into
thermal or electrical energy; "the amount of energy falling on the earth is given by the solar constant, but very little use has been made of solar energy"
Wind Power• Use of the energy in winds to produce
power. Though wind is irregular and spread out, it contains tremendous amounts of energy. Sophisticated wind turbines have been developed to convert this energy to electric power.
Wave Energy
• Energy generated by the force of ocean waves. The use of this energy is still in the experimental stage, but successful models have been built.
Advantages
• Solar power is non-polluting. Unlike oil, solar power usage does not emit any greenhouse gases, nor does the acquisition of it harm ecosystems through spills or dredging. This is probably one of the primary advantages of solar power.
• Wind Power-Moreover, the wind power doesn’t contribute to the exhaust of deadly pollutants, which cause the green house effect. After purchasing the wind turbines, there are no more considerable investments involved, except the general maintenance, hence the Wind Power production is lot more economical than other forms of energy.
• Wave Energy-Wave energy is predictableSatellites can measure waves out in the ocean one to two days in advance of their impact on coastal locations. This ability to predict wave resource will enable utilities to manage the issue of intermittent renewable generation far more effectively than other renewable sources such as wind and solar.
DisadvantagesWave Energy-While wave energy is almost completely non-polluting, accidents and unforeseen
conditions may cause environmental concerns. According to the OSC Alternative Energy Program, wave power generators may have negative impacts on the marine habitat depending on the type of generator installed. Some generators require disruption of the seafloor, which can cause unpredictable changes in a marine habitat. Spills or accidental leaks caused by hydraulic fluids in the system could also potentially harm marine wildlife. Some noise pollution may also originate from the wave power generator.
Solar Panels- The major disadvantage of solar power or solar energy is the cost ofthe photovoltaic panels. The location of your home in relation tosunlight, how many hours per day of sun you receive, and the amount ofenergy you use monthly determines the size of the photovoltaic panels. Estimates range between $7–10 per square foot for photovoltaic panels.
Wind PowerWind turbines generally produce allot less electricity than the average fossil fuelled power
station, requiring multiple wind turbines to be built in order to make an impact.Wind turbine construction can be very expensive and costly to surrounding wildlife during the
build process. The noise pollution from commercial wind turbines is sometimes similar to a small jet engine.
This is fine if you live miles away, where you will hardly notice the noise, but what if you live within a few hundred meters of a turbine? This is a major disadvantage.
3 energy saving measures• Wash full loads on in washer, dryer and dishwasher. Wash
clothes in cold water-your not wasting hot water so its better
• Do not block vents- all the air can be trapped in your home , you can be at risk because carbon monoxide level would rise.
• Install water saving faucets and shower heads-your saving water and not wasting it like usual
• Clean or replace air filters in heating/cooling systems. Check ducts for leakage-good for dust not to be accumulated and it would probably affect your breathing if you have breathing problems.
