APPOLO: Soft-touch surfaces
7
• Our pillar textured surfaces exhibit a ‘silky smooth touch’
• Reduced friction due to largely skin reduced contact area
• APPOLO: Optimization of technology for soft-touch surfaces in car interiors
• Optimization and validation of machine and further development towards industrial use of technology

Reducing Friction
• Reducing friction in lubricated
contact
• Application e.g. in automotive
• Potential energy savings of tens
of billions kWh / year
• Technological challenge:

Summary
• Lightmotif develops new production technology for
innovative applications, e.g. for enabling functional
surfaces
• Important part of developments have been
performed in FP7 projects – this enabled us to
keep a strong focus on development, and it kept us
independent
• Results already used for various commercial
applications and products. Now presenting:
– Highly integrated and automated machines for 2.5D
and 3D applications
• Future:
– Increased accuracy by making the machines
smarter – adaptive micromachining
