Students use Thinking Strategies
Ms. Perkins’ second grade class learned about fractions in their
math class using pizza portions! Slices and toppings helped the
children understand percentages in this fun lesson. Also in Ms.
Perkins’ class Lauren Sheets models how to use math strategies
to work through a problem. We love the perseverance, Lauren!
Student Showcase
To highlight student achievements and perspectives our new Student Showcase is a
gathering of the extraordinary work of Northridge students.
This month we are featuring student created Fables and Comic Strips of American
Heroes from Ms. Perkins’ 2nd grade class: “The Robotic Scorpion” by Alex Lien,
and “The New Master” by Katherine Nguyen, “Martin Luther King Jr.” by
Elle Bockorny, “Abe Lincoln” by Sydney Biagiotti, and “Milton Hershey” by
Parker Robbins. Click here to read their fables and comics.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Discovery students will be performing this
Shakespearean comedy romp: May 4th & 5th.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William
Shakespeare
2016 5th and 6th Grade Discovery Drama
By: Dash Keiffer and Mackenzie Smith
In a world where humans and fairies live. . . A world where anything is possible... in
this world the 5th and 6th grade Discovery classes will present two productions of
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. Experience the enchanting
world of Athens, Greece, and all the stories that follow: A play within a play, four
lovers bonded with magic, and the antics of fairies and their disturbance on the human
world. Fall in love with the four lovers Hermia, Lysander, and Helena and Demetrius.
Experience the mistakes that the hobgoblin, Puck, and his king, Oberon, can do, with
the help of a very special flower. Laugh at Titania’s trance with Bottom as
Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Mote, and Mustardseed pool their efforts to please him.
Laugh as the common mechanicals perform a tediously brief play for the duke and
duchess on their nuptial day. Enjoy the 6th grade production on May 4th and the 5th
grade production on May 5th both at 6:30pm, and get tangled in the twisted web this
enchanting world creates!
International Towne Field Trip Review
By: Clark Wilson, 6th Grade Discovery Student
Recently, the 6th grade Discovery class went to International Towne, a place where
kids can learn more about the world and having a job. International Towne is
similar to Young Ameritowne, where kids play in jobs and get pretend currency that
they spend on souvenirs. It is used to teach kids about having a job, world trade and
currency exchange. Most students enjoyed being in charge of the economy, but
didn’t like the amount of required things that they had to run around doing during
our breaks. Overall, it was a fun field trip, and we learned a lot.

3rd Grade Business Day
Northridge 3rd Graders had tremendous success at this year’s Business Day Event!
Each student created their own product/service, set pricing, and staffed their
company booths on April 14th & 15th. Staff and adults were given money to shop,
and students were able to use their accumulated “Scholar Dollars” to buy each
other’s goods. The variety and creativity of the shops was incredible,
