Why work with a CAT tool?• CAT= Computer-assisted translation

• Meant to help you with the translation process:

• Consistency

• Built-in quality assurance features

• Use of Terminology and Translation memories

• Save time and manual labour

• CAT tools can handle a variety of source files, without having to

own the software the source document was created in (e.g.

InDesign)

Basic workflow

You only have to downlaod memoQ once. It is important to know that you need to have an internet connection while you are translating as Livewords makes use of a server license.

Accepting a job in the Livewords web portal• You will receive an email invitation

• Click on the link in the email to go to the portal

Livewords will provide more information about the portal (such as login details).

The Livewords web portal


The Portal is available in multiple languages. In the Job Offer window you can see all details of the job, such as deadline or thetotal number of words. You can also accept and reject a job offer here.

In the overview you can find information on the kind of job, the project manager the start date and deadline.

Here you see the project instructions provided by the client manager and the CAT analysis (total number of words and matches).

Work files as the files that need to be translated. Under reference files you can find all other files such as style guides or earliertranslations.

In the job tab in the Portal you can see all jobs that are in progress and jobs you have already completed.

• You are now assigned to the project

• There are two ways of opening a project in memoQ:

1) By connecting to the server in memoQ

2) Via the web portal

connect to the server and log in.

automatically synchronise and load

• Otherwise you will have to connect to the server first

By double clicking on the file you open the Translation Editor.

The Translation Editor

The translation editor is the main window for translation. Here you will …

• … enter your translations

• … confirm the translations and save them to the translation memory

• … check the translation suggestions from the translation memory

When you double click on the document the translation editor will open. Let’s zoom in on some of the features.

Segments


The translation Editor is basically a table. On the left you can see the source text and you can enter the target text (yourtranslation) on the right.

• On the left side you see the source text. On the right you can enter your

translation


Livewords will provide the correct segmentation with the project. This will often be sentence based, but may also be paragraphbased.

When you confirm a segment this will be reflected in the view pane

• As well as similar sentences that have appeared within
