Parasites in MerrittPlease advise the parasite(s) who
smashed in my passenger window ofmy car, while I was working the night-shift cleaning, that he or she is a com-plete heel.
To law enforcement, I am deeply dis-appointed, it shouldnt take a tax pay-ing citizen to tell you that the parasitesare busy between the hours of 2a.m. and6a.m. Furthermore the fact that nearlytwelve hours have passed and there has
been no contact from your office to myhome. Shame on you for your lack ofconcern, and for the rude receptionistyou have working the front desk.
Sincerely, Anita Lessing
Wood Stove Exchangeback on track
The Nicola Valley Wood StoveExchange (NVWSE) is back in opera-tion. The program, which has initiatedthe changeout of over 40 dirty oldstoves in the valley in the last 2 years, had been suspended due to lack offunding. Last month however, the BCMinistry of Environment increased thefunds available for the program. TheMerritt Air Quality Committee has suc-cessfully applied for the funds requiredto operate the program. The TNRD
(Areas M&N) and the City of Merrittare offering further cash incentives.Under this years program partici-
pating retailers will be offering a 10%reduction off the regular applianceprice. In addition, the program will pro-vide grants of $750 or half the cost of thestove, whichever is the least.
Replacement units must meet emis-sions standards set by the EPA or CSA.To be eligible for the program, appli-cants must have an old non EPA/CSAappliance to trade in. Eligible trade-insinclude wood stoves, fireplace insertsand wood furnaces. These units can bereplace by EPA/CSA certified wood orpellet fuelled appliances. Fireplaceinserts can also be replaced with gas orelectric units.
A building permit is required by lawfor the installation of any solid fuel
burning appliance. To receive thegrant, participants must obtain a permit and the installation must pass inspection.FMI contact Tim Larsen, 378-8216 or [email protected]

Monastic Christmas tradition
At a monastery high in the mountains, the monks have a rigid vow of silence. Onlyat Christmas, and only by one monk, and only with one sentence, is the vowallowed to be broken. One Christmas, Brother Thomas is allowed to speak and hesays, "I like the mashed potatoes we have with the Christmas turkey!" and he sitsdown. Silence ensues for 365 days. The next Christmas, Brother Michael gets histurn, and he says "I think the mashed potatoes are lumpy and I hate them!" Onceagain, silence for 366 days (it's leap year). The following Christmas, Brother Paulrises and says, "I am fed up with this constant bickering!"
