BETHLEHEM
There was a baby there was a manger
there was a time ...
And in our time we see no shining star
and hear no heavenly choir.
Our stumbling footsteps often bypass Bethlehem. And even if we stopped to take this turn what then? Would we see more light to guide our path? Would we hear deeper words of understanding? Would we really look at Bethlehem ... or choose instead the tableau of our own
imaginings?
Bethlehem. That God would really meet us in our helplessness
... join us in our blindness.
Surely this is blasphemy! We pray to God to fill the gaps:
… to save, redeem, deliver.
We want a God of power and healing
Not a Gospel God of powerlessness and pain.
And yet ...
There was a baby
There was a Bethlehem.
God grant us Magi wisdom to perceive. from Mary Coloe, pbvm. LiturgyHelp.com
Merry Christmas We wish you all a peace filled and joyous Christmas. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who will not have such a Christmas. Thank you for all you have contributed to the life of our parish in 2019. May the Christ child bring peace and courage to all who are suffering in mind, body or Spirit. We give thanks for and ask God’s continued blessing for all in our Parish family. May 2020 be a year of blessings and graces from our ever present, loving and merciful God.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS BEFORE MASS
The North Wind
The north wind is tossing the leaves, the red dust is over the town, the sparrows are under the eaves and the grass in the paddock is brown, as we lift up our voices and sing to the Christchild, the heavenly King.
The tree-ferns in green gullies sway, the cool stream flows silently by, the joybells are greeting the day, and the chimes are adrift in the sky, as we lift up our voices and sing to the Christchild, the heavenly King.

Christmas in the Scrub
At Christmas time the birds all sing, the rabbits jump, the lizards crawl. At Christmas time the outback rings and all for the birth of God.
Chorus: At the birth of God the wallabies hop, For the birth of God the cockatoos squawk, At the birth of God the platypus swims, for the birth of God, the kookaburras laugh. For the birth of God was such exciting news they’d never heard before. They came from all the land to see this baby in the straw.
And if you were there you would’ve seen the wise old kangaroo. “O, I’ve starved in droughts and swum the floods, I’ve hopped around both up and down, through hills and plains I’ve never seen such a baby in the straw.”

The Silver Stars
The silver stars are in the sky, The red-gold moon goes riding high, O, sleep my little one sleep!
Once long ago, against her breast, A mother hush’d a babe to rest, Who was the Prince of Heav'n above, The Lord of gentleness and love. O, sleep, my little one sleep!
The boobook calls across the night, The brown moths flutter in the light, O, sleep, my little one sleep!
In Bethlehem long, long ago, When roads and paddocks gleam'd with snow; On this same night, that mother mild, Lull'd into dreams her royal child. So, sleep, my little one, sleep! My little one sleep.

LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE
Reader: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father full of grace and truth.
The Christmas candle is then lit.
All: Joy to the world the Lord is come. We light this candle because Jesus, the Light of the world, was born on this day and He brightens all things. Joy to the earth, the Saviour reigns.

COMMUNION HYMN
All Is Ready
1. Come, all you weary ones, who walk the journey;
Know you are welcome at the table of the Lord.
Come, bring your burdens here, find love and mercy.
With Christ before us, we gather as his friends!
All is ready, here and now: all are welcome here!
2. Come, all who struggle hard, all who are hopeful;
Know you are welcome at the table of the Lord.
Come with your tired hearts, come, find new passion.
With Christ within us, we find new life again!
All is ready, here and now: all are welcome here!
3. Come, all you rich and poor, all who are challenged;
Know you are welcome at the table of the Lord.
Come, all who live in shame, we are your family.
With Christ beside us, we no longer are alone!
All is ready, here and now: all are welcome here!
4. Come, all you single ones, all who are married;
Know you are welcome at the table of the Lord.
Come, you who’ve lost your spouse,
all who are lonely.
With Christ our brother, we are loved and made whole!
All is ready, here and now: all are welcome here!
5. Come, all you young and old, all male and female;
Know you are welcome at the table of the Lord.
Come, love of every kind, it does not matter.
With Christ, all people are one in God’s name!
All is ready, here and now: all are welcome here!
6. Come, all you anxious ones, who fear the future;
Know you are welcome at the table of the Lord.
Come, all from east and west, we stand together.
With Christ, we rise now, to sing the reign of God!
All is ready, here and now: all are welcome here!
