World Scenario Hydro power is at present the most
common and the largest utilized renewable energy resource.
Around the world, 3288 TWh electrical power is generated through hydro alone.
That is over 16% of global electricity production in 2008.
Hydro-power could double its input by 2050, reaching 2,000 GW of global capacity and over 7,000 TWh.

PURE (productive use of renewable energy) Pakistan has 2165 MW capacity of small scale
hydro power mainly in northern areas and NWFP.
A medium-sized project named 'PURE' related to micro hydro was planned from 2004-2010 by UNDP with its partners
AEDB, EAD (economics affairs division government of
Pakistan), AKRSP (Agha khan rural support program).
The project main focus is to implement 15 MW of off-grid power through 103 MHP (micro hydro power) sites in Chitral.
AEDB has also played its roll in this project with its motto to make 5% share of renewable energy in Pakistan’s total energy consumption by the year 2030.
This project will lessen about 461,465t CO2
eq and 1,890,868 t CO2 eq in 22 years.

Pakistan Council for Appropriate Technologies
80 projects having capacity from 5kW to 30kW were installed till 1987 in Northern areas of Pakistan.

Recommendations & Conclusion Hydro electricity is a good
option for cheap electricity Pakistan has a very lavish
structure of canals. KPK and Gilgit-Baltistan are
tremendous hunting grounds for hydro projects
It is recommended that every site suitable for carrying out u-hydro plants should be used to produce power.
