“Creating a Sporting Habit for Life”
• We want more children taking up sport and maintaining
the habit of ‘sport for life’.
• We will create more opportunities for children to get
involved in sport and physical activity.
• We will nurture development, providing a stimulating
and fun environment that allows all our children to
discover the benefits of learning through sport.
• We will provide opportunities that enrich children's
sporting experiences, such as festivals, tournaments
and community events.
An Introduction to the Kings’ School Sport Programme:
Our sports provision is extensive and provides our children with numerous pathways into sport. By helping them reach their
true potential, we aim to ensure as many children as possible have the opportunity to compete successfully in their selected
sport. Whether children are participating in our development clubs or competitive squads, the priority for us is providing a
stimulating and fun environment in which to nurture physical development and for children to discover the benefits of
learning through sport.
The Sports Development Pathways:
The pyramid presents a model that supports a fully inclusive participation policy for all. From stepping into a sport for the
first time to performing at a high level, our goal is to help all children participate successfully and at a level that is
appropriate to their development needs. Across the year, children have a variety of sports to choose from, reflecting the
sporting season across the Dubai School Sports Network and other seasonal events, such as the BSME games.
Embedding a Sporting Ethos:
During games and practice sessions our specialist teachers and coaches focus on technique and skill development whenever
possible; incorporating the physical, psychological and social components of learning. The philosophy of our competitive
sports programme revolves around “Freedom and Fun” with the ethos of ‘striving to win’ as we believe winning at all costs is
counterproductive. Children want to win when they play so there is no need to promote this nor to discourage it. The
fundamental goal is that children have a balance of training to learn and learning to compete.
