WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT CYBER-BULLYING?
“In recent years, technology has given children and youth a new means of bullying
each other” (Cyberbullying).
WHAT IS IT?
Cyber-bullying involves posting and sending items that are hurtful to others by the use
of electronic devices (Beale & Hall).

HOW DOES IT TAKE PLACE?
• e-mail• instant messaging• chat rooms• text messaging• websites• blogs
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT THAN TRADITIONAL BULLYING?
• anonymous bullies• occurs anywhere• cyberspace involved
EXAMPLES?
• A student sitting in class threatens another student through an e-mail, text message, or instant message.
• A group of friends post hateful statements about someone on a website.
RECENT STATISTICS?
About 1 or 2 out of every 5 students have been victims (Stover).
IMPACT ON K-12 STUDENTS?
• psychological harm • poor school attendance • declining academic performance• sadness/depression• intimidation/fear
