YEAR END CONTRIBUTION STATEMENT
Within the next few weeks you will be receiving your yearly
contribution statement from the envelope company. We receive
many calls at this time of the year concerning discrepancies
between the amount you have calculated and what is on your
statement. The figures on your statement cover ONLY WHAT
YOU PUT IN THE ENVELOPES and DO NOT INCLUDE
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS SUCH AS ANNUAL
CATHOLIC APPEAL, GENERATIONS OF FAITH,
PARISH RAFFLE, ETC. For those contr ibutions, you have
your cancelled check as your receipt. Also, it does not include
gifts of stocks.
Weekly collection for the weekend of January
11/12 amounted to $11,140. Thank you for
your generous donations.
READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY
Isaiah 8:23—9:3
Corinthians 1:10-13; 17
Matthew 4:12-23
SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 19, 2020
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
As we celebrate the holiday commemorating Rev. Mar-
tin Luther King., Jr. we appreciate a day off from work
and school. May we also honor the man whom we cele-
brate by thinking of the sacrifices, hart work, confron-
tations with violence and injustices, and ultimately the
sacrifice of his own life, that Rev. King made. At a
time when abuses that were challenged in the civil
rights movement are reappearing may we look to the
man who is a hero in challenging them. In respects the
dignity and rights of all people, cares for those on the
margins of society, and tries to work with all people to
alleviate the causes of poverty and war.
Pope Francis instituted ‘The Sunday of the Word of
God’ to be celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of Ordinary
time. Next weekend, January 25-26, we invite you to
bring your personal or family Bible to Mass with you.
The goal is to emphasize the importance of the Bible in
Catholic life and to encourage one another to read and
study it as a regular part of our following Jesus. At
Mass we will pray that we may grow in love of God’s
Word. The Scriptures have been described as a ‘well’
from which we drink refreshing and life giving waters.
Like the Samaritan Woman who was given life giving
water at the well in Samaria, may we drink of God’s
Word and come to know more intimately Jesus, Our
Lord, whom we meet there.
The 4th grade at ICCA selected the new Paschal
Candle that will be lit during the Easter Vigil, and will
be used at the baptisms, funerals and other special
occasions during the coming year. The decorations are
colored light blue, with a band circling the candle
showing the miraculous medal, roses and fleurs-de-lis.
The boys and girls made a good choice!
We welcome our catechists for ‘Brunch’ this Sunday
morning following the 10am Mass. Thank you for your
dedicated work with all the children and parents in the
Sunday religious education program.
This is the week of Prayer for Christian Unity. May
we pray that an abundance of grace will help us to re-
alize our unity as we follow Christ and open our hearts
to the guidance and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Fr. Bill
WE DID IT!
As of January, we have reached our goal
of $92,466 for the 2019 Annual Catholic
Appeal !
Thanks to the 365 parishioners , who have given so gener-
ously in helping the Diocese to help those in need.
Hoping that the 2020 ACA will be as successful. !!
On February 9th following the 10AM, we invite en-
gaged couples to join us for a “Brunch” to celebrate
their engagements! Engagements are a very happy and
sometime pretty busy time. But it should be celebrat-
ed. If you are engaged, please come and relax. For
some it may be a chance to see the church for the first
time or to meet our Organist and Cantor, and those
who help with wedding celebrations. If you have
friends who are engaged, invite them, they are wel-
come or if your wedding will be in another church, you
are welcome to come and celebrate your engagement
with us. Give a call to the parish office or let one of
the priest know you can come, so the kitchen can pre-
pare for the correct number of guests.
A reminder that we will NOT be celebrating Bap-
tisms during the Lenten season. Lent is seen as the
time when the community of the faithful prepares for
Baptism; reflects, prayers and accompanies those in
the RCIA, and looks forward to renewing our own vows
of Baptism on Easter. Half way through Lent this year,
we will stand with the Woman at the Well and Jesus
when we read John’s Gospel. Although thirsting for
water, we realize Jesus is what we long for, and we
look to the day of His resurrection to be refreshed
again.
We no longer have a full-time Sacristan. The work
of the Sacristan is really a work of hospitality; making
the church inviting to people, clean and welcoming.
Our churches are expressions and teachers of faith in
stone, wood, architecture and art. St. Juan Diego to
whom the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared, seems to
have been a sacristan in his church. We need
Sacristans. If we had a group of people whose job it
would be to care for the church, we could divide up
what needs to be done or have groups that can alter-
nate, so the work need not be burdensome. I would
look forward to seeing what the needs are and sit down
with those interested to figure out how we can best
tackle this job!
BUY AND DONATE: You have an opportunity to buy furni-
ture, home and personal items you need (from a Parishion-
er) and at the same time make a DONATION TO OUR PAR-
ISH. Whatever you buy, please make the check out to
“Immaculate Conception Church”, as ICC will receive the
benefits of the sale. You can email:
[email protected] or call and leave a message at
(718) 658-2106. We thank you for your kind generosity.

LECTURAS PARA EL PROXIMO DOMINGO
Isaías 8: 23-9:3
Corintios 1: 10-13, 17
San Mateo 4:12-23 o bien 4: 12-17
piedra, madera, arquitectura y arte.
