Words of Wisdom from Kevin Filchak
Hey NEACURH!!
Two years ago, I proposed an idea to my Execuve Board at my host
instuon. "Hey guys, why don't we try and host the Sub-Regional
Meeng?" Their response could not have been more enthusiasc. We
instantly began preparing, reading policy, asking quesons, makingphone calls and so much more. I looked at my computer screen the
night I was to submit the proposal and said, "Wow, this has been an
incredible journey that I've been on the past few weeks. I can't believe
how much fun everything was just in preparing the proposal alone." I
hit send, and a few days later, something wonderful happened...our
proposal had been accepted.
Our Subs meeng was a fantasc experience for my execuve board
and for myself. But what was the most important take away from that
experience was the preparaon for the proposal. It taught me how tobe a beer NCC because it taught me to think about not just my
schools interests, but NEACURH's. It taught me that taking that risk and
subming a proposal is the most nerve wracking moment as an NCC,
but it also produces the biggest rewards. Had our proposal been
rejected by the Region, that would have been just ne in my mind
because we had taken that risk of presenng a proposal that we were
proud of. It taught me that the RBD is not as an enty to be
inmidated by, rather it is your NEACURH family, who only want you to
take that rst step and take that risk of proposing something; they're
there to catch you so you do not fall. Finally, it was able to bring Marty
closer to my Execuve Board, and that is a great feeling.
my favorite part of subs was
when my NCC and myself were
able to carpool with Tricia
Connelly, the RCC NY at the
me. I enjoyed geng that one
on one interacon with an RBD
member, which made me feel so
much more comfortable at
minis. Subs itself was a great
way to bond with the RBD,
NCCs, NRHH reps and
Presidents

My favorite SUBS memory is
when I was at SUNY Geneseo
last fall and we rst learned
the hand clapping (Give me
one...Give me two....) from
Craig Levan, which we used as
part of our roll call this pastNACURH at Western Illinois
University!

BLAST FROM THE PAST!I remember my rst sub-regional meeng. It was at NYU and I was a
mid lile NCC-IT. Everyone was so warming and welcoming. The
weekend reinforced my love of the moose and eventually movated
me to run for the RBD. All the fun icebreakers and smulang
conversaons couldn't have been more perfect (well, maybe a few
more hours of sleep). My biggest advice would denitely keep an
open mind and go in with a lot of enthusiasm!

NE subs last year was
absolutely awless!Both Suolk and Roger
Williams were super
fun and totally dierent
from each other. At
Suolk subs, Kevin and
his Maa-playing-skills
were absolutely epic,
and at Roger Williams,
some NCCs split into
teams and playfully ar-
gued whose team
would win an epic
bale (never fought).

The rst me I went to subs was last semester at Roger
Williams. It was informave, yet excing and lively! First, what
are subs? Subs is an opportunity for NCCs, Presidents and NRHHRepresentaves to get together to discuss the conference com-
ing up. I got to bond with other NRHH Representaves before
geng thrown into a conference. Everyone shares ideas, helps
other colleges/universies overcome issues, and just get to
know each other. Stories are shared about the beginnings of
their semester or their breaks. We get creave with mini pro-
jects and best of all WE GET TO CHEER! Usually, the NCCs,
Presidents and NRHH Representaves miss out on the fun of
cheering during conference, so we make up for it by cheering
between our informaon and break-out sessions. My favorite
memory of my rst subs: Meeng Northeastern and feeling like
I was part of a family. They were so supporve and outgoing, I
felt like I t in with everyone right away. Special Thanks to Ma,
Katelyn, and Tina (aka Tim). Cant wait to see you all at the next
one!

To all of you who are considering a proposal for Subs
or a bid for Regionals, POY, SALT, whatever, remember this: "Every journey, no maer if you are
walking to the store or walking to the ends of the
earth, begins with just one step.
Take that step NEACURH. You Rock!
-Kevin Filchak
Heyyyy NEACURH!
Can you believe its the start of another
school year? This year is truly your year. It is your chance to make
a dierence, inspire something new, achieve your goals and learn about yourself
and RHA and NRHH. But the queson becomes, how can YOU achieve this? As you
start this year, seek out opportunies to challenge yourself and your organizaon.
You will grow far more than you ever thought possible and change both your
organizaon and your school for the beer! Accept this challenges and never look
back because who knows, maybe you could be on RBD or the next NEACURH
Director. Immerse yourself in what you love. My ulmate piece of advice is simply
to follow your heart. You will nd yourself in places that you have never imagined.
One of the best ways to make a dierence is to learn from those in NEACURH and
NACURH. At conferences you have the ability to learn about programs, meet a
multude of new people and exchange ideas. NEACURH also has the disnct
opportunity for all NRHH Reps, NCCs and Presidents to aend a subregional
meeng. This is a great opportunity to bond within your subregion New England or
New York, exchange ideas and receive training for the upcoming conference. My
rst subregional conference was held at WPI in the fall of 2009. Without much
regional experience it was an amazing opportunity! I was able to meet people
within the region while exchanging ideas on a more personal level. With smallerboardrooms and discussions the conversaon can be tailored to beer help YOU.
Subs is an amazing way to interact with the region and hosng a meeng is even
beer! You have the ability to help the region and make a mark within NEACURH! I
encourage all of you to think about creang a subs proposals and denitely
aending subs.
You all are going to grow more as leaders and individuals than you ever expected
this year! I cant wait to get to know you this year! You are going to do a great job!
Mooselove,

Hey NEACURH!
The Clark University Residence Hall Associaon has been super busy
these last few weeks of August and we want to share what we have been
up to! First o we hope that all of NEACURH has had a fantasc summer
and start to the school year! This year, Clark RHA played a major role in
Clarks Week One First-Year orientaon. We hosted big-prize BINGO (a
Clark
tradion) where we supplied an iPad as the biggest prize. A few days later,
we hosted the RHA Block Party, where rst years were given new RHA
t-shirts to paint with glow-paint for the quintessenal Clark Week OneBlack Light Dance! Along with these events, our RHA E-Board helped with
First-Year move-in and supplied all rst-years with eco-friendly Clark RHA
tote bags (inside were buons, lanyards, and sckers displaying Clark RHA
pride!). Overall, Clarks Week One experience was posive. We are looking
forward to subs and what the rest of the semester has to oer! Moose
love, NEACURH!

I'm, Seneca, the NRHH Chairmen at Keene State
College, I aended one subs last year in the Spring
and one of my best memory from it was talking
with other schools and geng to know their NCC's
and NRHH members. Along with what programs they did that were big successes.
As for program's we have done so far on rst year move in day we had an event
called "Wiener Welcome." The event consisted of Residence Hall Organizaon
(RHO) members handing out hot dogs, chips, and drinks for free to rst years, there family's, and anyone else that wanted one. Another program we have done
is vising all the rst year living areas as part of orientaon and having a "Hall
Council Spirit Night." In this event we talked to them a lile bit about what Hall
Council and RHO is/does. Then we had poster making contest for one of RHO's
rst event's "Res Hall Rumble," which is like a eld day from middle school. Part
of the day is the living area's spirit and they can get points for having lots of spirit
that will help them win the rumble. Aendees split into groups of 8 and were
challenged to made a poster that represented the spirit of there living area. Then
we collected all posters and stored them so when that area's Hall Council isformed they can pick their favorite and us it, take parts of each and make a new
one, or use mulple poster's the day of the event. Both events were a success
and surpassed our expectaons.
Events we have within the next two weeks are Hall Council Informaon Sessions.
For this Members of RHO go to each living area and talk about Hall Council (How
the work, what they do, etc.). Also, September 10th we have comedians "Dave
and Ethan" coming to do a campus wide comedy act. We have had great turn
outs for these events in the past and expect to have beer turn outs this year.

Presidents Corner With Sheraz
Hey NEACURH Presidents,
As the school year starts up, I thought Id share some things you can
do to prepare for your RHA oces.
Mail Box I found it makes it convenient for e-board members
and myself when they have their own personal mail box to
keep the desk beer organized.
Message Board Got a message you need to tell your board
members for the day, this can come in good use!
Oce Hours It is always good to have peoples oce hours
posted so you know what me is best to get in touch with any
board member. You can go even further by asking board
members to post their schedules so you dont call them while
they are in class!
Personal Eects/Decoraon Aesthecs for the oce is a sure
re way to make people stay happy and get work done.
Stress Ball It never hurts to use this when you are having a crazy
day at the oce.
Supplies It is always a good thing to make sure you have oce
supplies to get business done. Items include, but are not lim-
ited pens, pencils, highlighters, stapler, staples, hole puncher,
paper clips, note pads, white out, scky notes, and much
more!
Supply Closet Have care packages or supplies for an awesome
program that will occur in a few weeks but dont want it
cluering your oce, a supply closet always comes to good
use for that!
