Culture and Information
Target grammatical expressions are introduced in context through authentic sample conversations, so that migrantworkers will be able to speak Korean more uently and be better prepared for EPS-TOPIK. The concept of grammaris provided both in Korean and English, which helps students to understand grammar more accurately. A coupleof examples show diverse usages of the expressions. Each chapter has only two grammatical expressions in orderto prevent students from being overwhelmed with grammar. Each grammatical expression explains modicationswith two or three sample sentences.
Activity helps to practice creating topic-based conversations that learners will face in daily life using vocabulary, expressions, and grammar covered in each chapter. Moreover, throughout the Activity section, migrant workerswill learn to demonstrate skills required by National Competency Standards (NCS) and articulate their thoughts andopinions in specic situations. In some of the chapters, learners will practice nding information that they needwithin the given passages.
The EPS-TOPIK section provides ve listening questions and ve reading questions. The format of the questionsfollows the actual format of EPS-TOPIK, so that students will be able to be familiar with question types and practicefor the test.
The Culture and Information section introduces general Korean culture, Korean workplace culture, information
about Korean society, and other necessary information for migrant workers. More importantly, the Culture andInformation sections of chapter 50 through chapter 60 include information concerning workplace-related lawsand legislations for migrant workers.

Koreans tend to say Lets have a meal together next time, or Lets drink together when they say goodbye. They
also often say, Lets keep in touch, but these expressions are not so much promises that people take seriously as
idiomatic usages that people use as a way of saying farewell unless they schedule specic dates and time for the
appointment. In the meantime, it is recommended that you dont contact a person too early in the morning, too late
at night, and/or during mealtime or break even if s/he has said, You can come over any time.

Presents for a housewarming
Koreans usually invite their family members, and/or colleagues to their house after they move into a new place or get married. It is called , a housewarming party. They invite people and prepare food for a housewarming, while the invitees preparegifts for the party. Detergent and toilet paper are very popular for gifts. The symbolic meaning of the detergent is wishinggood luck and wealth as if they make bubbles. Along the same line, toilet paper also symbolizes wishing good fortune.More recently, people tend to buy presents that the host families want and need. Moreover, decorative items such as clocksand owers in vases are now very popular. People also give newly married couples cups and saucers, and spoon and chopsticksets as gifts. Consider these possible gifts for your next housewarming.
