MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT-August 2016
1. Sankalp Team organized its annual creativity week at all Centres in the month of August at Its NIT and Aashiyana Centres.
2. Story Writing and Poetry Writing Competition were organized at Aashiyana Centres. The students were asked to write poetry on the topic of ‘Mother” and one self-composed poem. The programs are intended to instil creativity in children and allow them a platform to express their ideas thru creative expressions.
3. Drawing Competition was held at Giridih Centre and the students were awarded on the eve of Independence Day. The events were coordinated by our Giridih Centre coordinator Mr. Somnath Keshri
4. Various events like Clay Model Making, Drawing Competition and Speech Competition were conducted at our Dhanbad Centre. The winners were awarded. Thanks to our Volunteer Ms. Smriti Kumari of 2k13 batch for a wonderful coordination and handling of the event.
5. Stationery was donated to all the students enrolled at our Jamui Centre. 6. Common test marks received from Jamui Centre shows an excellent improvement in the
academics standards of students enrolled at the centre. 7. Sankalp organized a massive stationery donation event at its NIT Centre in association with
Nivedita Jha memorial Trust. The trust was formed in memory of Late Ms. Nivedita Jha, a doctor by profession, who lost her life in an accident.
8. Sankalp organized massive donation drive in Rickshaw Basti and Bantanagar. Clothes and stationery items were distributed to needy children.
9. Sankalp organized India’s 70th Independence Day with loads of enthusiasm and energy. Parades and Prabhat-Phery were conducted at various centres.
10. President led the Public Awareness Session and Community Counselling in the bastis near NIT Centre to ensure students attendance and get first-hand knowledge of the difficulties in their areas.
11. Centre Monitoring and Tracking Team has been formed for various centres. a. Vivek & Preeti- Jamui & Banka Centre b. Sumit & Ashu- Dhanbad Centre c. Tarun & Pareek- Giridih Centre d. Ashish & Mayank- Madhepura Centre
12. Sankalp added yet another feather to it cap when graduates from XLRI, one of India’s Best B School approached Sankalp for conducting research for their social impact project. The report submitted to the XLRI faculty was appreciated
13. Ms. Rachana Tripathy and Mr. Shashank from Tata Steel are currently completing their project with Sankalp. The two interns from the famous Tata Engage mission will submit the detail of all the companies based in Jharkhand, whom Sankalp can approach for CSR funds.
14. President has started taking English Language Classes at Imli Chauk Centre as part of the Language Skills Improvement Projects at Sankalp centres.
15. Sankalp started inviting applications f or internship and volunteering at Sankalp offering exciting roles and opportunities for interns thru its online application portal. The link and platform was developed by 2k11 batch Alumnus Mr. Ashutosh
16. Prashant, a needy student from our Mohan Nagar Centre will now be tutored personally by Dheeraj, Murtaza and Abhishek for physics, chemistry and maths.
17. Kshitij, an NGO based in Jamshedpur and managed by students and alumnus of DBMS contacted Sankalp for jointly improving the academics of government schools. The unique collaborative model is under way and the project will soon kick off.
18. I Care noble, an organization which provides a common platform for collaboration between NGOs working in the field of education and women empowerment contacted Sankalp for a joint mission .
19. Akanskha and Nidhi from 2k14 batch will now be heading the sponsorship team. A detailed session was organized to train them on methods and processes of tracking sponsors.
20. Dinesh and Abhinav from 2k13 batch will now lead the Finance Team under the supervision of Aditya Ghodela from final year
21. Special classes for improving English language skills are now conducted weekly at our Mohan Nagar Centre
22. Second Year Volunteers have been divided into different teams based upon their inclinations to provide thrust and speed to various activities of Sankalp
23. Daily reporting of volunteers from MN and NIT Centre has started over WhatsApp group. 24. List of new sponsors from 2k12 batch and their sponsored child has been shared with the

25. New banners designed to be used at Sankalp Centres have been mailed to SNL Bearings
Team for their approval. 26. Centre report from Giridih Centre:
a. Currently the classes are running in a temple which is under construction. There is a room in front of the temple which is used many times for classes. But soon that will be occupied since it is a market space. I have asked him to search a room in nearby location which will cost us approx. 600-800 per month.
b. No. Of children - 50 Junior section (till 5th)- 35 Senior section (6-8) - 15
c. Extracurricular activities- drawing competition on 30th July. d. PR was also done in this week to increase the strength. e. But till date, not even a single test has been conducted on the centre. Test papers
sent by our team are with them on mail. I have requested him to conduct the test in this week itself. I will follow up with him by the end of this week and update about the results.
f. Test would be conducted for teachers also and if needed, they will be replaced with the new one.
g. Also, there was a request for 2-3 mats. h. In the upcoming week, quiz competition is planned.
27. Centre report from Jamui & Banka Centre:
a. Jamui and Banka centres are doing well, but monsoon creates a problem. Children fall sick and roads are not good. So, he has to go to their homes to call them.
b. c. Tests are being conducted regularly. Some 50 students are coming right now. They have
various competitions planned for 13th August - GK and GS quiz, stitching competition for girls. They said they plan to celebrate every special day at the centres.
d. e. I asked him to look at kids who can be admitted next year, and to maintain all answer
sheets so that if needed we can have a look at them in future. Teachers are coming regularly and he cross checks this with the parents as well.
f. g. I asked him to call me any time he feels the need. I spoke to him about my social activities
here at Bangalore, how I engage with kids. He was glad to know I am continuing with this work.
h. i. As I get to know Vikas Ji more, I would delve more into centre specific details, for first time
I kept it informal.
28. Monitoring of the classes, the attendance and quality have been made more strict a. Frequent visit by President and other volunteers to stabilize the centre b. Regular report of the syllabus completed and lessons taught at the centre is
monitored thru WhatsApp group c. Pics of the classes are shared online
29. Report from Dhanbad Centre 1) Brought one more chair & one more white board with the help of my friend
Manu Rajan as no of children have increased & one more teacher has been appointed. 2) Solar system covered by Manu Rajan 3 ) Room rent paid for the month till Aug 4) Smriti admitted 7 children in govt school as they were not enrolled in any school & talked to their parents. 5) Basics of computer education were covered. 6) Clay model making competition with the help of Manu Rajan, Shanu, Rahul (local volunteers)
30. Monthly interaction led by President took place with the Team and special mention was Made to the tireless efforts which the volunteers are making for making the different activities successful
