Easter Resurrection CookiesI love Easter! The bunnies and dyed eggs are so cute and fun to color and make with my kids. What could be sweeter than kids scrubbed clean and dressed up in new Easter clothes? But I don’t want to overlook the true meaning of Easter. If you are like me, you may wonder how to teach your little ones about something as sad as the crucifiction. It isn’t exactly the happy Bible stories we usually like to tell children. But it is impossible to understand salvation without understanding the cross and empty grave.

Here is a recipe for cookies you can make with your children and instructions for teaching them the story of the crucifiction and resurrection.

Resurrection Cookies

1 cup whole pecans 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar3 egg whitespinch salt1 cup sugarPlastic Ziploc BaggieWooden spoonRolling pinTapeBible

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. (Do this before doing anything else.)

Place nuts in baggie and beat them with a wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.

Open the vinegar and let everyone smell it. Put 1 teaspoon into the mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, all He was given to drink was vinegar. Read John 19:28-

30.

Add egg whites to v i n e g a r . Eggs rep-resent life. E x p l a i n that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.

Put a little salt into each per-son’s hand. Let them taste it, then brush the rest into the bowl. (If you have lots of kids, put a pinch of salt in yourself, and then let each child taste the salt…otherwise there will be too much salt in the recipe) Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus’ followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Sprinkle a little sugar into each person’s hand. Let them taste it, then brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with mixer on high speed for 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents our purity in God’s eyes because our sins are cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18.

Fold in nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus’ body was laid. Read Matthew 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and TURN THE OVEN OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door shut. Explain that Jesus’ tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66.

Now go to bed. Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cook-ies in the oven overnight. Jesus’ followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hol-low! On the third day, Jesus followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matthew 28:1-9.

Head off to church and the rest of your Easter celebrations, knowing that you have started the day as a family, remembering the reason you celebrate Easter.

Who Is Bringing the Food?April: Red table May: Blue/Purple table

Thank you so much for sharing your culinary skills this year with the other mommas! The time and/or money you put in is greatly ap-preciated!

Thank you so much to the ladies who have volunteered to help for MOPS for next year! It is so exciting to have people want to use their time and talents to help other moms. The steering team is going to meet very soon to discuss the open positions, so if you have let someone know you would like to help, you can expect to be contacted very soon. If you didn’t tell anyone, but you would also be interested in helping, please let Krista know. We will find a way to use you! And if you said you wanted to help and you don’t hear from someone within the next week or two, please be assured that it isn’t that we didn’t want you. Your message was probably found by one of our children and flushed down the toilet, or fed to the dog, or painted with peanut butter or any number of things, so please tell Krista that you want to help. Pray about serving the Lord and your fellow moms in this capacity. When you are ready to find out more, call Krista at 806-392-6061 or email her at [email protected]

Experiment of the Month: Pressure

Meet Your Steering Team: Jennifer BabbWhat is your

husband’s name?Frank Babb

What are your kids names and

ages?Ethan is 6 and Carson will be 3

in May

What is one thing people might not know about you?I have been to Bolivia and Venezuela and Mexico on

mission trips and am so ex-cited to be going on another

mission trip to Africa this summer.

What did you do before you were a mom?I went to school to be a speech therapist, worked part-time as an assistant speech therapist in an elementary school, only to learn that I did not want to be a speech

therapist after all!

What is your favorite snack?Right now it is Cadbury Mini-

Eggs.

What do you do to relax?

I take a bath and read a book and get a massage

whenever possible.

What is the best piece of advice you could give to a

new mom?Sleep when you can, don’t be afraid to ask for help from others, and enjoy every precious second!

Experiment:

Fill a bottle with hot water and a bowl with cold water. Let both sit for one minute. Then empty out the bottle. Stretch a balloon over the mouth of the bottle. Set the bottle in the bowl of cold water.

Observation:

What happens to the balloon?

Explanation:

The warm water heats the bottle. When the water is poured out, the heated bottle heats the air in-side of it. When the bottle is placed in the cold water, the air inside the bottle cools and contracts, causing outside air to be drawn in, pulling the balloon in and inflating it inside the bottle.

Book Nook Love Talk Starters by

Les & Leslie Parrott

Peek at Next MonthAccording to their website, “Love and Logic provides simple and easy to use techniques to help parents have more fun and less stress while raising responsible kids of all ages.” Now who couldn’t use that information? It is also the last meeting of this year, so you won’t want to miss it!

I remember way back when my husband and I were dating. I would see older married couples sitting in the car together stopped at a stop light and both would be just staring straight ahead. “What a tragedy!” I would say. “They are not even talking to each other! How sad that their love has grown so cold that they don’t even want to spend each precious moment together growing closer.”

We will celebrate our 14th anniversary in June. Now I know that these couples haven’t necessarily grown cold toward each other, they may just be decompressing from the day, or have nothing new to talk about right then, or have just gotten their baby to sleep in the back seat, or have imposed a nobody-talks-until-we-get-home rule to stop their children from bickering.

While I am much less judgmental of those couples now, I see the wisdom in bringing back some of the conversation from our dating times. Back then I wanted to know everything that happened in my fiance’s day. I was vitally interested in what he had to say, think, and feel. I made him a priority and he did the same for me. If you would like to recapture a little of that magic but aren’t exactly sure how, then this is the book for you.

Love Talk Starters has 275 questions that will spark a conversation between you and your husband. Some questions are funny and some are serious. Sometimes you will laugh at your spouse’s response and other times you will stare at them in shock. Either way, you will learn more about them and see how they have changed over the years of your marriage. It is a great way to reconnect during the busy years of raising preschoolers. And what could be better for our children than to have parents who love them and passionately love each other?

Early Childhood Intervention is having a fundraiser to raise money for their hippotherapy (therapeutic horseback riding) program. For five dollars a person you can by a wristband that gets you in the door. With a wristband you get lunch (hot dogs and such) and the kids can participate in all of the activities inside which will include things like: horseback riding, face painting, rabbit petting, hay rides, roping stations, live music and a silent auction. If you don’t purchase a wristband before April 9th, you can still go but you will have to pay for each activity separately.
