This compact 12-gauge is classified by the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol,Tobacco,FirearmsandExplosives)asa“Non-NFAFirearm,”requiringnotaxstampfortransfers.BaseduponMossberg’sprovenpump-actionplatform,standardfeaturesofthe590MShockwave includenon-bindingtwin action bars; positive steel-to-steel lock-up; dual extractors; anodized aluminum receiver drilled and tapped forconvenience of adding optics; 15-inch heavy-walled barrel; convenient cleanout magazine tube; and universally-recognized,ambidextroustop-mountedsafety.Withtheincluded10-roundmagazine,these12-gauge2.75-inchpump-actionshaveatotalroundcapacityof10+1.UniquetotheShockwaveplatform,andprovidingitsnovelmoniker,istheShockwaveTechnologiesRaptor®pistolgrip.Thiswell-designedpistolgripfeaturesanenhancedtexturedfinishandhasa“bird’shead”shaped-profile,allowingformaximumcontrolwhileminimizingfeltrecoil.Thegripisconstructedofdurable,glass-filledpolymerwithnon-reflective,blackfinishandhasanoverall lengthof5.25inches.Completingthefurniturepackageforthe590MShockwaveisthecob-styled,tacticalforendwhichisstrappedforgreatercontrolandsmootheroperation.Atthecoreofthe590MShockwavearethemagazine’s integralstabilizingribswhichengagethemagazinedirectlytonotchesmachinedintothereceiver,ensuringapositivelock-up.Theall-steel,heated-treatedmagazinereleasebuttonandhousingareoptimally-positionedinfrontofthetriggerguardforconvenient,ambidextrousaccessforunloadingandreloading.Thelocationofthemagreleasedoesnotinterferewithcyclingoftheaction.Thewell-executeddesignallowsforproperbalancewithafull-magazinelocatedatthecenterofgravitypoint.As a first for mag-fed shotguns, the 590M design features a patented double-stack magazine constructed withhardened-steelfeedlips,over-moldedsteelshellrampsandananti-cant,roundedfollowertoensurereliablefeeding.Additional features include an easy-grip, molded external shell; proprietary self-lubricating polymer magazine body;heavy-duty ASTM-A-228 music-wire magazine spring for prolonged service life; removable floor plate for ease ofcleaning; and durable black oxide finish on the steel components.
