Mother of the Bride Speeches

SPEECH TEMPLATE 1
Good afternoon everyone. I am so pleased to see so many friends and relatives here
today from both sides of this very attractive bridal couple. I’m so excited to have
you all here to help us celebrate the wedding of our daughter [BRIDE].
Every mother dreams about her little girls wedding, and I’m certainly no different. I
watched her play dress ups and I imagined this day when she was running around
the yard throwing mud at her brothers. I knew one day we would get her here. And I
am really over the moon today and quite emotional as today my beautiful little girl
married [GROOM], the man of her dreams.
I’m really pleased to have [GROOMS PARENTS] here with us today so that we could
share this love and this excitement with them on the day of our children’s marriage.
Our families are joined now, and I think that these kids are so lucky to have four
loving and supportive parents here by their side.
To those guests that have come from far and wide and who have made so much
effort to be here today, thank you so much. You are so generous with your time and
your love and I know that both [BRIDE] and [GROOM] are really touched to have each
and every one of you here today to help them celebrate.
I’m sure that everyone in this room will agree that my beautiful daughter [BRIDE],
looks absolutely radiant today. I’m not the first person to say how beautiful she is
and I’m sure I won’t be the last. Well, I probably was the first, after her daddy of
course, on the day she was born. Red and screaming, she was still the most
beautiful baby that either of us had ever seen. But I digress!
It’s not only [BRIDE] who looks particularly stunning today, but her handsome new
husband who looks fabulous in his tuxedo and that loved up smile on his face. I’m
glad he’s had a haircut! I remember on the day that we met [GROOM] for the first
time we couldn’t even see his eyes under all that hair.
I know that these two are so happy today, and I can tell you that there is nothing
better in the world as a parent than seeing your child join in a joyful union with the
person that they love.
Mother of the Bride Speeches

I’m so sure that today is the beginning of a long and happy marriage for [BRIDE]
and [GROOM]. Even when this beautiful day is over, their marriage will continue to
blossom into a strong and mutually supportive, wonderful and loving partnership.
And I’m sure that both [GROOMS PARENTS], will join me in saying that we truly are
so happy for the love that you have found in each other and that we want nothing
more than to be a part of the family that you build together so that you know that
you have never ending love and support as your family grows. We love you both so
much and we are so excited for all of the adventures that lie in your future.
As [BRIDE] and [GROOM] begin their lives together, [BRIDES FATHER] and I both feel
that we aren’t losing our daughter, but gaining a son. And what a wonderful new
son we have! A son who we entrust our daughters care to and trust that she will
take great care of him in return.
When [BRIDE] came to me that day a year ago and told me that [GROOM] had
proposed, I knew that she wasn’t my little girl anymore. That she was a woman
embarking on a new adventure, a life all of her own. She has been an absolute
blessing to our lives and I know that she will charm her new family and be as much
a blessing to them as she has been to us all these years.
On that note, I think I’ll dry my tears and propose a toast to the happy couple.
If you will all raise your glasses with me and toast to [BRIDE] and [GROOM], may
their love last through the years and may they always have each other in the good
and in the bad.
We love you! Congratulations. And now the rest of you enjoy the rest of the party!
SPEECH TEMPLATE 2
Good evening guests, family and friends.
I am very proud to stand before you today as the mother of the bride. And what a
day it has been! The ceremony was beautiful and the food has been fantastic!
I’m so proud to present to you my daughter [BRIDE] and her handsome new
husband [GROOM]. There is nothing in the world more beautiful than seeing young

love blossom into a real and loyal commitment to each other. I am so very, very
happy for these two as today they have joined together, and under the eyes of god,
vowed to love and respect each other forever. And we were all so lucky to witness
such beauty.
When I look at my daughter, the bride, I can’t help but think back to what she was
like when she was a little girl, and how lucky I feel to have had the pleasure of
watching her grow into such a wonderful woman.
She had my heart from the moment I knew she existed, growing inside me and that
love blossomed so much more when I got to hold her for the first time. And
somehow I managed to love that baby more every day, even though I never thought
it was possible.
I just loved to watch her grow and blossom as the years went on. She went from a
cheeky toddler to a bossy little girl, to a sensitive teenager, and no matter how old
she got or how much she changed she will always be my little girl, she will always
be my ray of light, she will always be perfect to me.
Today I stood and watched as her dad gave her away. A little part of me was crying
because I feared losing that little girl and the rest of me was filled with tears of
happiness.
[BRIDE] married [GROOM] today, and I am so filled with pride and happiness for this
couple. Together they are about to embark on this incredible journey together
where they will go through ups and downs, they will have so much joy and probably
some sorrow. But no matter what life throws at them, they will always have each
other. They will always have love and compassion and kindness and respect and
with those things, you can get through anything.
[GROOM] came into our lives, X years ago. And I could tell instantly that [BRIDE] was
smitten with him. She looked at him with those big doe eyes and hung on every
word he said. When he wasn’t at our house, she was at his, when she wasn’t there
she was talking about him or to him.
You could see just by looking at them that they had something more than just
childish obsession. They were just meant to be together. They complement each
Mother of the Bride Speeches

other perfectly, each with so much love and respect for the other I know in my heart
of hearts that they will always take good care of each other and there isn’t much
more any parent can hope for.
I’ve probably gushed enough for one day. And there are other people who want to
get up here and say a few words. So, I’d just like to finish up by thanking you all for
making such an effort to be here today. So many family and friends have flown
across the country or from around the world, to share in this joyous event. And I
just want each and every one of you to know that we are so very glad that you did.
Thank you.
So, now if you will all charge your glasses and toast to the Bride and Groom, their
happiness and their future.
To [BRIDE] and [GROOM]
SPEECH TEMPLATE 3
Hi all, for those of you who don’t know me I am [NAME], the very proud mother of
the bride.
I’d like to officially welcome you all to this, the happiest day in our family history
where we get to see our daughter [BRIDE] marry the man of her dreams, [GROOM].
And what a joyous day it has been!
Thank you all so much for coming here to celebrate with us, it means so much to all
of us, especially [BRIDE] and [GROOM] to have you all here to show your love and
support. So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
Now, where to start? I do apologize if I get a little over emotional... it’s a mothers
right on a day like this.
I have been waiting for this moment for [AGE of BRIDE] years. But I can tell you as
joyous as it has been it has also been difficult. In fact it has been one of the most
difficult things I’ve ever had to do.
The whole concept of giving your child away is a bit daunting. It is extraordinarily
emotional and overwhelming but it is also extremely exciting and satisfying to
Mother of the Bride Speeches

know that the person that you are giving her away to is one of the most noble,
gentle and wonderful men that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
And I am so glad that this is the man that my darling daughter is going to spend
the rest of her life with. There is no one better than him, and that I am sure. If I had
to choose a man for my girl to be with, this is the man I would choose. And for that,
I am absolutely filled with pride.
[BRIDE] has always been the type of girl that always seeks out and discovers the
best in everyone. When she was just a toddler she had so much compassion for
everyone, animals, pets, strangers, even some furniture... It really just blew me
away. That someone so little could have so much goodness built right into her.
When she started going to school, [BRIDE] made friends with everyone in her class,
she was never one to bully. She was an extraordinary child, well mannered, gentle,
loving and wise beyond her years. Everybody adored her then, just as everybody
adores her now. And as her mother, that makes me very proud. I wish I could take
credit for it, but it’s just her, it’s just who she is and she only got better and wiser
and kinder with age.
[BRIDE], although I do cringe and cry at the idea of letting you go. I could not be
filled with more pride or more genuine love for that little girl I had all those years
ago, and for the incredible woman that you have become.
I watched you go to your first day of school filled with confidence and excitement, I
held you when you had your heart broken, I made you lunch, I laughed with you, I
cried with you and for you and I worried about you every day. And now I look at you
and I know that every sleepless night was so worth it. I only wish the best for you
and for [GROOM], and I know that you will build a wonderful life together.
[GROOM], you are a great man, and I know you will take good care of my little girl.
You have become a dear friend to our family and you have always shown yourself to
be an absolute gentleman with a great sense of humor and a good heart.
We are very happy to have you as a part of our family and as a part of our daughters
life. I know in my heart that you are perfect for each other and that you will work
Mother of the Bride Speeches

hard to be there for each other regardless of what events may come up in your
lives.
This brings me to my toast. To [BRIDE] and [GROOM] may the future bring you
happiness, wisdom, love and all the children you want. I’m so happy for you both.
Congratulations.
SPEECH TEMPLATE 4
Good afternoon everyone!
I’d like to start by thanking you all for being here. For all of you who have travelled
whether it be near or far, it means so much to [BRIDE] and [GROOM] to have so
many of their close family and friends here with such a huge show of love and
support. I’m sure they love that big pile of gifts too!
For those of you that don’t know, I’m [NAME], the very proud mother of the bride.
I’m so happy today to introduce you to Mr. and Mrs. [SURNAME] on the day of their
wedding. A joyful union of souls who have so much potential and such a bright
future in front of them!
When I look at my daughter, the bride, I can’t help but think about the drive home
from the hospital with my tiny baby in the back seat. It seems like just yesterday I
could hold her in one hand and she was so little and delicate and I was so terrified
that I was going to do something wrong. And now here we are, my tiny little baby is
now a wonderful woman who looks absolutely incredible today in that dress.
When [BRIDE]’s dad and I drove her home from the hospital, my eyes were filled
with tears, I was grateful and frightened and so full of pride and love and respect
for this little being. And today, well, I feel exactly the same way. A little tired, a little
overwhelmed, very grateful and completely in awe of this woman that that little
baby turned into.
Gratitude has been a recurrent theme in our lives. Being blessed with such a
beautiful daughter who brought us so much joy and happiness and laughter, we
have always considered ourselves the luckiest parents in the world. The day of
Mother of the Bride Speeches
8
[BRIDES] birth marked the beginning of a new life for all of us. And today we are at
another important milestone in her life. Her wedding.
Today marks the beginning of a new road that will be travelled by [BRIDE] and
[GROOM] together, hand in hand, with love and respect and compassion for each
other. And we are all lucky enough to have been invited to share in this incredibly
happy day, the beginning of a new partnership, a new family. A new life for both of
these outstanding young people.
Marriages are much like births the beginning of a journey, but they don’t have to be
the end of a journey either. My journey with my daughter continues, but now she is
not only mine, but she shares a separate journey with her husband. He is a
wonderful man who I know will take such good care of her and for that I am very
grateful.
X years ago when I first heard [BRIDE] talking about this new boy she was dating. I
could tell just from her voice and from that sparkle in her eye that he was very
special to her. Every time he rang her cheeks would flush pink, and I knew that she
was quite smitten with him. But as we watched their relationship grow and develop
and become more and more serious, it became even clearer how perfect these kids
are for each other.
They are gentle, funny and intelligent young people who have a fierce loyalty to
each other and to their families. They are generous, sensitive and great company
and I’m so glad that they were lucky enough to find each other and forge this
incredible union.
Today you all were witness as [BRIDE] and [GROOM] exchanged vows and spoke
about how much they mean to each other. We all saw that love that they have and
we watched as that love became a union under the eyes of god and all of their
family. That love and commitment is sure to build a long and fruitful marriage.
So on that note, if you would all join me in a toast to the bride and groom.
[BRIDE] and [GROOM] may you live happily ever after, we love you. Congratulations.
Thank you.

SPEECH TEMPLATE 5
Good afternoon family friends and especially to the Bride and Groom.
I’d like to Welcome you all here today on behalf of the [SURNAME] family. It is our
absolute pleasure to have had the opportunity to host the wedding of our beautiful
daughter [BRIDE] and her handsome new husband {GROOM].
There is so much love and support in this room, it really is wonderful to see so
many familiar faces and new faces who are all here because they really love this
wonderful couple! And what’s not to love?
I remember the day [BRIDE] was born. I was so proud to be the mother of that
precious little baby girl. I remember when she went to school for the first time. I
was so proud to be her mother. I remember watching her play sport and watching
her graduate and seeing her get her first job.
I was so proud to be that young woman’s mother. And now today, I stand here as
the proudest mother in the world. I am so proud of the woman that stands before
us, committing her life and her love to [GROOM] and getting ready to set out on a
great adventure to start a family and build a life.
[GROOM], I’d like to officially welcome you to the family, although it does feel silly
because you have been such an important member of this family for years now. It
has been an absolute pleasure getting to know you and I know that [BRIDE] feels
really lucky to have you as her own.
You bring her so much happiness and you have brought a lot to our whole family.
Thank you for that. You are a generous and kind young man and we welcome you
with open arms, we will be proud to call you son from now on!
On that note I would also like to extend a very warm welcome to groom’s parents
[NAMES]. They are wonderful people and have passed on their exemplary qualities
to their son. I look forward to spending more quality time with you and having you
over for all our family gatherings in the future.
[BRIDE], [GROOM] as you begin your lives together as a husband and wife, I wonder
if there is any advice that I can impart to you that will be of any value. [BRIDE]
Mother of the Bride Speeches
10
doesn’t listen to my advice anyway, but maybe [GROOM] will be able to take
something from it!
Most of life, I have found, is not about what you have or what you can get, it’s about
learning, step by step along the way, and the only way you can do that is really get
out there and live your lives.
On my wedding day nearly X years ago, my mother gave me a whole lot of advice
that I managed to forget before she had even finished her speech. So all I want to
say to the both of you is that you learn through your own mistakes, and you really
should listen to those who give you advice, because even if they are your parents
they are often right.
Listen to each other, respect each other and never forget that love you feel for each
other today because that love and companionship is what is going to get you
through any tough times that life might throw at you.
Always loving each other isn’t as easy as it may sound. Life gets in the way and it’s
easy to get distracted. But don’t hold on to it and always make time for your
relationship and for each other, because at the end of the day, that person you
stand with today, is the most important person in your world now.
There is nothing better in life than having someone to share it with. I wish for you
all the happiness in the world, that you remain healthy and have the courage to do
all of those things that you want to do.
Life is for living, it’s not for buying or shopping or owning things. Take the time to
really explore the world and yourselves, there is so much out there that you don’t
even know exists yet. And I want it all for both of you!
Family and friends let us raise a glass in toast to a lifetime of love, compassion and
respect for the happy couple.
To [BRIDE] and [GROOM]

SPEECH TEMPLATE 6
When a woman has a daughter she has so many dreams for her; especially these
days, she hopes that she will be a strong, confident, self-sufficient woman who has
her own career, her own goals and dreams.
(Smile, soften voice) More quietly, deep in her heart, a mother also hopes that her
daughter will grow into an elegant, feminine woman who will find and marry the
man of her heart.
Today I’d like to welcome you to the wedding of my daughter [BRIDE] and her new
husband [GROOM]. Today, Ladies and Gentlemen, all of my maternal dreams have
been fulfilled. And I am so proud of my girl.
[BRIDE], as you can see, makes a beautiful, elegant bride. Her sense of poise and
style is truly commendable; she carries herself like a queen.
More importantly, she seems very happy and filled with excitement today. Three
guesses as to why. (Pause for laughter) Indeed, her new husband [GROOM] is
handsome, dashing, charming, and well-spoken. He is truly a dream groom, and
I’m so proud of [BRIDE] for, well, snagging him. (Pause for laughter)
Of course, my daughter has always given me plenty of reasons to be proud of her.
She is an intelligent, accomplished woman who has done a lot in her young life.
Just as I dreamed and predicted, she has really come into her own. She is an
independent woman who leads an exemplary life.
And now, I truly believe, she has found the man of her dreams. [GROOM] is a very
accomplished man who mirrors my daughter’s intellect and sense of
accomplishment. I see them as a successful and respectable couple, but also as a
sweet, passionate (just how passionate, Mom would rather not know—ahem! Pause
for laughter) and flirty twosome.
Perhaps most importantly, I see them as a fun couple; sweet and good-humored,
they are a joy to be around, and you can tell that they truly enjoy being around each
other.
Mother of the Bride Speeches
12
I predict smooth sailing ahead for this great couple; I predict that they will enjoy a
joyful life filled with adventurous trips, quiet, romantic moments, and numerous
milestones. I predict that they will have lovely homes, fun vacations, enterprising
business ventures, and of course many beautiful children. I just can’t wait to be a
grandma (HINT! HINT! Pause for laughter)
The world is their oyster, and the future is theirs to decide. Whatever they do they’ll
do it well, and I can’t wait to see the kind of great, exciting life they come up with.
Of course, in the midst of all this joy and excitement there will, from time to time,
come an argument or obstacle. Even the best of couples hit the occasional bump in
the road, the occasional roadblock, all those clichés that for some strange reason
involve traffic. (Pause for laughter) Yet when these problems come up, I have every
confidence that [BRIDE] and [GROOM] will negotiate every obstacle with style,
reason and ease. And most importantly, with love.
And if and when they ever need a little extra help, they can turn to the same loving
friends and family who gathered here today to honor their union. [GROOM]’s
parents, [FATHER OF THE GROOM] and [MOTHER OF THE GROOM] are sweet, bright,
warm, wonderful people, and they did a great job raising their son. I am so pleased
to see them here today, and to welcome them as a part of our extended family.
To the two fine people who stood beside my daughter and son-in-law today,
[BRIDESMAID] and [GROOMSMAN], I want to offer my love and thanks. You have
never let [BRIDE] and [GROOM] down, and you are more than welcome here today.
To my dear husband [FATHER OF THE BRIDE], I offer my undying love and devotion,
and also my thanks for offering such a great role model for our daughter. [GROOM]
really reminds me of you! (Smiles)
I’d like to reserve my final, sweetest words for my dear daughter [BRIDE]. She is
truly special in every way, and I couldn’t be more proud of you. You are the
daughter of my dreams, and I love you more than I can say.
I wish you and [GROOM] all the happiness in the world. And for now, enjoy your
wedding day.
Mother of the Bride Speeches
13
SPEECH TEMPLATE 7
I would like to welcome you all to the wedding of my lovely daughter [BRIDE] and
her wonderful new husband [GROOM].
Today I am overwhelmed by so many emotions: love (well, duh, that’s a no-
brainer—pause for laughter), pride, joy, and—I must admit—just a wee bit of
trepidation.
This is, after all, my little girl who is getting married. My baby who is taking on this
level of responsibility, who is changing her life forever. (winks at daughter) No
pressure, Honey. (Pause for laughter)
Seriously, though, every mother has a case of the nerves on her daughter’s wedding
day. Mine are soothed, though, by the knowledge that my daughter has picked a
winner.
My new son-in-law [GROOM] is a wonderful man, bright, funny, warm, successful.
He is the man that every woman dreams of, and that every mother hopes her
daughter will find.
And not that I’m biased or anything, but I do believe that my daughter is quite the
winner in her own right! (Pause for laughter) [BRIDE] is bright, beautiful, witty and
successful; I really couldn’t be more proud of her.
In the future I predict that these two will enjoy a sweet, joyful life together; a life
filled with love, romance, and success. I know these two will have bright, beautiful
children, beautiful homes filled with love, exciting trips, and challenging joint
business ventures.
Sure [BRIDE] and [GROOM] will have their share of problems and obstacles, as all
couples do. It’s important to remember, though, that these two have a support
system that’s simply unbeatable. All of the same people gathered here today will
be here for them for the rest of their lives.
These include [GROOM]’s wonderful parents, [MOTHER OF THE GROOM] and
[FATHER OF THE GROOM]. They are sweet, bright, great people, and have become
treasured friends in the lives of my husband [FATHER OF THE BRIDE], a great guy in
Mother of the Bride Speeches
14
his own right, and me. I am so pleased to see them here today, along with
[GROOMSMAN] and [BRIDESMAID], the fine young people who stood beside our
children today.
(Soft, wistful) Ah, but they’re not children anymore, are they? They are man and
woman, husband and wife. They are poised to have their own children, their own
futures, their own homes, their own lives.
Still and all, I still see [BRIDE] as my little girl. And today I see that my little girl is
happy. That means so much more to me than any of you will ever know.
(Turns to daughter) Bride, my dear, dear girl, I have watched you grow from an
adorable little girl to a beautiful, refined woman. And now you are a wife of all
things; who would have thought it?! (Pause for laughter)
Oh, but you were ready for this commitment weren’t you? You have established a
life of your own, complete with family, friends, and a great job. You were ready to
expand that life, to include a husband.
And what a great husband you chose. I love [GROOM], he is a fantastic guy and I
wish you two all the happiness in the world.
My dear daughter, I wish all the best for you in this new life; the best of love and
living, the finest of all things, as well as the ultimate fulfillment of your dreams. I
wish you a life of fun and excitement, but also of quiet and dignity.
I can’t wait to see what the future brings, with your new home, your joint projects,
and your children (which, arguably, will be the most important joint project of all);
and after I’m gone, I have the feeling that the two of you will grow old together very
gracefully.
And as beautiful and wonderful as your future is sure to be, I am just as excited
about your present. And on this your wedding day, I want to celebrate you.
Let’s dance today, dear daughter, let’s eat, laugh, sing (though I promise I won’t
sing too loudly—you’ve heard my wretched, lamentable attempts at karaoke, pause
for laughter) and remember. Let’s look forward to the future as we celebrate today;
Mother of the Bride Speeches
15
as we honor the beautiful thing that happened here today: the wedding between
you and [GROOM].
I love you two, so much. Let’s enjoy your wedding today.
SPEECH TEMPLATE 8
I would like to welcome you to the wedding of my daughter [BRIDE] and her
husband [GROOM]. As you all know, these are two very special people who found
each other at just the right time in their lives.
I’d say I’ve known [BRIDE] for quite some time (Pause for laughter), and overall I
think she’s very cool. (Pause for laughter) And, unlike most mothers, I don’t intend
to shed a single, solitary tear at my daughter’s wedding. Why? Because I finally got
her out of the house, yes! (Pause for laughter)
No, I’m only joking. Of course I’ll miss my daughter as she embarks on a new life
with her husband. I’m just so happy she found such a wonderful man; and instead
of losing a daughter, I feel that I’m gaining a son.
You see, in many ways (GROOM) is like the son I never had. He is kind, respectful,
successful, smart, and fun to be around; he reminds me of my husband, the
wonderful (FATHER OF THE BRIDE). I am so pleased to welcome him to our family.
Furthermore, I believe he is the ideal match for my daughter [BRIDE]. She herself is
quite the success story, accomplished, intelligent, beautiful and good-humored.
She has always made me very proud with her solid life choices, the latest of which
was [GROOM].
In the future, I believe that [BRIDE] and [GROOM] will lead a pleasant, joy-filled life
brimming with love, humor, happiness, and most importantly fun. They are sure to
have beautiful, bright children, successful corporate ventures, both together and
apart, stunning homes, and fun, adventurous vacations.
Of course, as I’ve always told [BRIDE], life is not always roses and sunshine. She
HATES it when I say that, by the way. (Pause for laughter) She and [GROOM] will
have their arguments, their obstacles, their spats and bad days. During these
times, which I’m sure will be rare, I have every confidence that [BRIDE] and [GROOM]
Mother of the Bride Speeches
16
will work together to come up with an amicable solution. And for the times that
they need help, these two have an unbeatable support network; one consisting of
the same people they see before them today.
[GROOM]’s parents, [MOTHER OF THE GROOM] and [FATHER OF THE GROOM], are
fantastic people who, like their son, have already become a part of our extended
family. They’re so kind and caring, and are a lot of fun to be around, and I look
forward to getting to know them better.
The same is true of [GROOMSMAN], a great friend of [GROOM]’s who served him so
capably today, and of all his friends and family members who gathered here for this
special day. I want to welcome you all to our family.
[BRIDESMAID], my daughter’s dear friend, stood beside her today with caring and
respect, just as she always has. I am so pleased to see her here today, along with
all of our friends and family. I know that we are all so proud of our girl. (Grins
warmly)
As proud as I am, though, I am not going to let [BRIDE] get away today without
some sound, solid and totally, self-admittedly genius words of motherly advice.
(Pause for laughter) Ears up, my girl, and stop rolling those eyes! (Pause for
laughter)
My only words of advice are, as follows: (clears throat, straightens posture,
pretends to read from notes) [BRIDE] and [GROOM], stay exactly as you are. Don’t
change a flippin’ thing. (Pause for laughter)
You two are very special, in so many ways. You are warm, smart, wonderful people,
and are destined to lead a charmed life together. I predict very smooth sailing for
the two of you, as you walk hand in hand toward your destiny.
Sure you might face some rough spots along the way, but, hey, what is life without
a little drama? Your trials will only make you stronger, and bring you closer
together.
The world is your oyster, Kids. With a little able help from your friends and family,
you will lead a blessed life together. So why not start today?
Mother of the Bride Speeches
17
Today, [BRIDE] and [GROOM], is the day you celebrate your love. Laugh, kiss,
dance, embrace, seize the day and experience it to its fullest. We love you kids;
enjoy your wedding day.
SPEECH TEMPLATE 9
I would like to welcome you all to the wedding of my daughter [BRIDE] and her new
husband [GROOM]. And on this, her wedding day, I have some warm, loving words
for my daughter:
Sit up straight, [BRIDE]! (Pause for laughter) Shoulders back! (Pause for laughter)
Stop rolling your eyes at me, young lady! (Pause for laughter)
No, no, I’m kidding. I really don’t have that many words of advice for [BRIDE],
because she is already so blasted perfect. She is charming, bright, beautiful,
successful, and has a great sense of humor. If she wasn’t my daughter I’d have the
strong urge to scratch her eyes out. (Pause for laughter)
Furthermore, I do believe she found the ideal match in [GROOM]. He is handsome,
accomplished, intelligent, and has oodles of charm; I can see why my daughter is so
crazy in love. And believe me, she is indeed crazy in love.
In [GROOM], [BRIDE] has indeed found the love of her life, the man of her dreams,
all of those romantic but annoying clichés. (Pause for laughter) I foresee the two of
them having a wonderful life together, one filled with love, romance, passion,
success, and perhaps most importantly friendship.
I can see them having beautiful homes, fun vacations, and of course many, many
wonderful children. (Sternly, pointing an authoritative finger in the direction of
BRIDE and GROOM) Did you hear that, Kids? I said, “Many.” Get to work on that
soon, OK? (Pause for laughter)
Of course, not all of their days will be filled with happiness and laughter. They will
have arguments, they will have obstacles, just as all couples do. (Pause) Of course,
that statement excludes my husband and me, as long ago he accepted the fact that
I am right about everything. (Pause for laughter)

When [BRIDE] and [GROOM] do face the occasional argument or dilemma, I have
every confidence that they will settle this issue with grace and intellect. Together
these two make an unbeatable team, and they will never let anyone or anything
stand in their way.
I personally take credit for many of [BRIDE]’s positive qualities (Pause for laughter),
but since this is a special occasion I’ll be nice and lend part of the credit to her
father as well. (Pause for laughter) [FATHER OF THE BRIDE] is a great guy, and a
remarkable husband and father.
[GROOM]’s parents, [FATHER OF THE GROOM] and [MOTHER OF THE GROOM], are
also great people who really knew how to raise their boy right. They are amazing
people and I am pleased to welcome them to my extended family.
The same goes for all of their friends and family members who gathered here today,
especially [GROOMSMAN], who stood by his side at the altar today. Any friend of
[GROOM]’s is definitely a friend of mine.
Of course, the dear, lovely [BRIDESMAID] is already a part of our family. I am so
grateful to her for standing by [BRIDE]’s side at the altar today, just as she always
has. We love ya’, doll, and we also love and welcome all of our friends and family
members who gathered here today. Thank you so much for being here.
I know that you join me today in loving, honoring and celebrating the union of this
very special couple. [BRIDE] and [GROOM] are two fantastic people, and they are
destined to be together. At the risk of sounding overly dramatic (What? Me? Never!
Pause for laughter), they are simply meant to be.
In the future I wish for nothing but love and happiness for this couple. I predict
smooth sailing ahead for [BRIDE] and [GROOM], both together and individually, and
I want nothing but the best for both of them.
Before they get down to the serious business of married life, though, I hope that
they treat this day as a time of celebration and fun. I hope that they dance, kiss,
eat, drink, laugh, and treat the reception hall as their personal playground. And,
just in the spirit of family and cooperation, I plan to join them in this revelry;

especially the eating and drinking part. (Pause for laughter) So let’s get to it! Let’s
enjoy this wedding day.
SPEECH TEMPLATE 10
I would like to welcome you all today to the wedding of my daughter [BRIDE] and
her husband [GROOM]. I am so pleased to present this wonderful, beautiful couple
to you, their friends and family.
Now before I gush all over this floor and mess it up royally (pause for laughter), let
me explain just why I take such great pride in this couple. [BRIDE], for her part, is a
magnificent daughter. She is sweet, accomplished, bright, funny, and as you can
see looks devastatingly beautiful, whether in a white wedding dress or blue jeans.
(Pause for laughter)
[GROOM], for his part, is an ideal match for my daughter. He is also intelligent,
charming, hip, funny, and accomplished. These two are a dream couple, and it is a
true pleasure to see them together.
As I get to know [GROOM]’s parents, [FATHER OF THE GROOM] and [MOTHER OF
THE GROOM], I can see where he gets all of his wonderful qualities. They are truly
wonderful and totally cool people, and I am so pleased to see them here today.
Of course, when it comes to my daughter, she gets all of her stellar qualities from
one person. (Smiles at her husband) Me. (Pause for laughter) It’s all about me,
baby! (Pause for laughter) And I must also give part of the credit to my husband
[FATHER OF THE BRIDE]. He is a magnificent guy and a solid life partner. He
provided our daughter with a great role model when it came to choosing a mate.
She also has got a great role model in [BRIDESMAID], the dear friend who stood
beside her today at the altar. She is a wonderful, very sweet young lady, and I am
very pleased to see her here, along with [GROOMSMAN], a dear friend of [GROOM]’s
who also stood beside him today, and all of the friends and family members who
joined me this day to honor this special couple.
I know that you also will join me in congratulating [BRIDE] and [GROOM], and in
making this solemn pledge to them: Kids, if you ever need anything, be it advice,

money, or just a listening ear, we will be there for you. (Pause, look around) Ah,
perhaps I should have just spoken for myself when it came to the money part. I’m
getting some vaguely murderous looks from the proverbial peanut gallery. (Pause
for laughter) Seriously, Kids, we are here for you whenever you need us.
Somehow, though, I don’t believe that you’ll need that much help. You two are so
good together and get along so well; you are not only lovers and partners, but great
friends. For those times when you do face a problem or obstacle, temptation or
dilemma, just remember to take things slow and talk things out, never forgetting
the special love that brought you here today.
Indeed, my ultimate advice to you two would be, treat every day as your wedding
day. Keep kissing, keep dancing, keep laughing, keep talking, keep celebrating
each other. Stay friends, stay partners, stay madly, passionately, crazy in love.
Considering that smokin’ hot kiss at the altar, I somehow don’t think you’ll have a
problem with this last part. (Pause for laughter) Woohoo! (Pause for laughter)
[BRIDE] and [GROOM], I am very pleased to see you so much in love, so into each
other; these qualities are important in any marriage. Always remember, though,
that marriage isn’t only about love and affection, kissing, cuddling, and some other
things I as a mother don’t particularly want to hear about. (Pause for laughter)
Marriage is also about responsibility. It’s about being there for one another, about
sticking together through thick and thin, sickness and health, all that good stuff.
It’s about weathering every storm together, and about practicing the forgotten arts
of tolerance and forgiveness. You two are bonded together forever, for life; make
the most of your time together, and never let anyone or anything stand in your way.
For now, though, let’s set aside all this serious stuff and have some fun. This is,
after all, your wedding day; the time to kiss, laugh, talk, dance, eat and have fun.
So by all means enjoy yourselves, and never forget how much we love you.
Congratulations, [BRIDE] and [GROOM]!
