Motivation
I wanted to know what would happen if 5 Pinatubo's occurred at the same time
I was also interested in Sulfur Dioxide Emission role in Pinatubo
Background Info.
in the Cabusilan mountain range separating the west coast of Luzon
722 people died 15-30million tons of sulfur Dioxide Reduced temp. of North Hemisphere By
0.5-0.6 degree’s Celsius June 1991 Has not erupted since
Background continue
before during after
Data source
Archived Data from Climatology webpage
Looked at three points in NC:Southern MountainsSouthern Coastal Plains Central Piedmont
Assessed Temperature and Precipitation data
Temperature Analysis
Temperature seems to decrease during spring months
Other factors maybe in play
Precipitation Analysis•No relationship between Mount Pinatubo and Precipitation data
•Summer months the data follows the same pattern, until Winter when it all scatters
What if 5 Pinatubo erupted at the same time? How much Sulfur Dioxide would be
released?
Sulfur Dioxide vs. Temperature Change Sulfur Dioxide emissions affected
various Volcanoes
What’s Emitted in 5 Pinatubos? Mount Pinatubo 20 Million tons Sulfur
Dioxide
5 Pinatubos Temperature Change ~ -1.1°C change in Temperature
Conclusion
You would expect about 100 Million tons of sulfur dioxide
~ -1.1°C change in Temperature Change in Precipitation is like a 2 sided
coin
