General Information Movie Maker comes with WinXP Provides basic features for video
capture and editing Export video to
.avi .wmv

Basic Editing Open the editor and create a new
project Capture a video clip or import an
existing clip into the editor Use the timeline to arrange clips Cut and combine the clips Add effects and text properties Adjust the export settings and export
the video

Project
Movie Maker saves projects as .msvmm files
Project file is a mapping file of the projects audio & video components
Commands related to projects are under File menu

Import Video Video material can be brought into
a project by Capture function Importing a video file
Use File – Import video into collections or Capture video – Import video - command

Video Editing
Note: Movie Maker used non-destructive editing
Material from the collections can be dragged into the timeline
The length of a specific clip can be adjusted by dragging the edges of a clip

Video Editing
The order of the clips can be changed by dragging
Clips can be removed using delete command
Properties of a single clip can be modified

Timeline
Timeline presents: Video Clips 1) Audio tracks (2) Text properties (3) Transitions between clips (4)

Tools of the Video view
Split Clip to split a specific clip into two clips
Take Picture to save a jpeg image from the viewed frame

Effects Effects can be added into the video clips Effects available can be viewed using
Edit movie – View video effects An effect is applied by dragging it into
the timeline After applying an effect
The video view will present the result The timeline will indicate an effect by
displaying a blue star within the clip

Effects
Several effects can be applied to a single clip
An effect can be removed using Video effects – Remove

Transitions If two video clips are overlapping a
Crossfade effect is created by default The transitions available can be viewed
using Edit movie – view video transitions A transition is applied by dragging the
transition into the overlapping area between two video clips
A transition can be removed using delete command
The length of the transition effect can be modified by dragging in the timeline view
