PREFACE
This Book is dedicated to educators who will be teaching our 21st century’s digital
generation. Focusing on contemporary technology skills to develop educational
multimedia applications, it contains twenty-four well-developed modules sorted into four
sections: 1. Basic Applications; 2. Multimedia Applications; 3. Web Design; and 4.
Electronic Portfolio. Products from the first two sections can be used as the contents of a
technology portfolio. The third section introduces skills to deliver an online portfolio.
The last section reviews the procedures of design, development, and implementation of
an e-portfolio. After completing this book, students will be able to create an e-portfolio
CD and an online portfolio. This book can also be used as a self-paced study guide; each
module was developed as an independent unit. When using for a class, the instructor can
determine the sequence of the modules, or select any module that fits the particular goals
of teaching.
Demonstrating the most current technology in education, the modules have been
continually revised to keep up with the rapid development of technology over years.
Before the next edition of this book, further updates on the materials, if any, will be
posted on this Website:

At the time this book is published, I want to extend my thanks to all the instructors,
students, and many colleagues at my current university and other universities. Their
appreciation and encouragement valued this book, and kept me exploring better ways of
technology integration. It is my hope that this book would continually help our students
learn technology efficiently.
Finally, I would like to express my special appreciation to: Lindsey Hubbard, the
Associate Editor at Pearson, for all her help in getting through the publication procedures
of this book; Wenzhen Li, for her help in editing the materials; and Deborah Ledbetter
Fuller and Talia Zhang, for their help in testing the module procedures.
