My  Yoga  Journey…

My   Yoga   Journey   began   early   2011  when   I   dabbled   in   classes   offered   at  my   local  gym.  As  an  individual  who  was  always  athletic  and  pushed  herself  with  high  impact  activities,   I   didn’t   understand   the   purpose   of   yoga.   I   vividly   recall   coming   out  my  first  class  and  wondering  what  the  hype  was  all  about  –  from  my  perspective  I  didn’t  sweat   and  my  heart  wasn’t   racing,   so  what  was   the  point?     Little   did   I   know   that  there  was  so  much  more  that  yoga  had  to  offer.    It  wasn’t  until   the   following  year  that  my  passion   for  yoga  truly  began.   I  had  been  struggling  with  one  of  the  most  challenging  times  in  my  life,  with  the  loss  of  a  close  loved  one,  a  serious  health  scare,  and  the  crumbling  of  a  seven  year  relationship.    As  a   means   to   distract   myself,   I   immersed   myself   in   yoga   and   started   practicing  regularly   at   studios   across   the   city.  Although   I   didn’t   realize   it   at   the   time,  what   I  needed  most  was  what  yoga  had  offered  all  along  –  a  place  to  ground  myself,  clear  my  mind,  and  most  importantly  a  place  to  practice  self-‐love.    Over  time  I  fell  in  love  with  not  only  the  challenge  of   the  practice,  but  also  the  amazing  community  that   I  found  at  Halifax  Yoga.        Although  I  began  practicing  for  very  different  reasons  then  at  the  present  time,  I  can  honestly  say  that  I’m  just  as  intrigued,  enthusiastic,  and  curious  about  yoga  as  when  I   began.   Yoga   has   not   only   provided   me   with   a   new   found   confidence   and  appreciation  for  what  I  have,  but  has  also  taught  me  to  be  more  compassionate  with  myself  and  others.  I’ve  also  learned  that  the  best  things  in  life  come  from  stepping  outside  your  comfort  zone.        I’ve   said   it   before,   and   I’ll   say   it   again,   I   can’t   imagine  not  having  my  yoga  mat   to  come  to  on  a  daily  basis.  It  is  unquestionably  ‘my  happy  place’.  Heather
