Demonstrations:Saturday’s “Naturally Gourmet Fair”program(May 4) starts with seafood cooking demonstrations.

THE Narooma Oyster Festival thisweekend celebrates what makes thisregion so very special – top quality localproduce, especially its oysters andseafood, its considerable culinary andartistic talents as well as itsoutstanding beauty.Australia’s first MasterChef JulieGoodwin, our special guest this year,sums it up rather well, “It has such abeautiful community feel about itand has terrific food, fantasticcooking demonstrations, beautifulart works and lots of wonderfulpeople who also enjoy thesethings.”The program has differentprograms on the two days.Saturday’s “Naturally Gourmet Fair”program (May 4) starts with seafood cookingdemonstrations by Julie and some of theSouth Coast’s finest chefs.We have gourmet food and craft stalls, greatmusic by local musicians in the morning andMick Conway and Ray Beadle in theafternoon, art exhibitions, sand modellingworkshops, the free Kidz Zone, the bigAquarium and other family activities, and theOyster Farmers Ball that night.

The launch of “Australia's Oyster Coast”

THIS year’s Narooma Oyster Festival willbe the launch of “Australia's OysterCoast” at the Narooma Oyster Festivalon Saturday, May 4.Australia's Oyster Coast (AOC) is anexciting new initiative which will seethe NSW South Coast promotednationally and internationally as home

to the most environmentally sustainableoyster growing industry in the world.The AOC extends from the ShoalhavenRiver to the NSW/Victoria border, andcomprises eight oyster growingestuaries, which operate underinternationally recognisedenvironmental management systems.

No other region in Australia, andpossibly the world, has every estuaryoperating under rigorous environmentalsystems.These systems require farmers toproactively identify and manage allenvironmental issues that pose a risk totheir businesses and the widercatchment.The end result is pristine waterways, amore efficient and profitable oysterindustry, and higher quality oysters.This new initiative will be launched byThe Hon Katrina Hodgkinson MP,Minister for Primary Industries.The launch will be in the Petaluma MainMarquee at 3pm.Huge numbers of delicious local SydneyRock Oysters will be consumed at theFestival which will also showcases theregion’s produce and culinary andartistic talents.Saturday’s “Naturally Gourmet”program along the shore of thestunning Wagonga Inlet will featureMasterChef Julie Goodwin, cookingdemonstrations by some of the coast’sfinest chefs, the popular Ultimate OysterExperience Lunch, the Oyster OpeningCompetition, gourmet food and craftstalls, great music, exhibitions by localartists, sand modelling workshops, otherfamily activities and the Oyster FarmersBall that night.The Festival program and otherinfo can be found atwww.naroomaoysterfestival.com
